First, let me start by saying that the food was spectacular. We ordered braised meatballs and a whole spicy fish. The owner was incredibly friendly, and as usual, surprised by my ability to eat spicy foods as a white guy. So if you're looking for spectacular Chinese food this is the spot... Now, the caveat to this is their menu. Having lived in China, I know what authentic Chinese food is. My wife's friend knows that, and that is one of the reasons she suggested this place, but she also stressed, when you walk in you'll be given a menu... Tell them you want the Chinese menu. It's no frills, on A4 paper, and not even handed out to the typical patrons. You have to ask for it. We also had to explain when ordering, that I had lived in China, could handle spice, and wanted them to make it the way they'd make it for their Chinese customers. This is the only reason why this spot gets four and not five stars. We saw other non-Chinese people come in and order from the typical menu. Sweet and sour this, mushroom noodle that. Uninspired and typical. It's a shame that people either don't know about the "secret" menu, or that if they order from it, it may be adjusted to western palates. If you're willing to go through the hoopla of assuring them you can handle it--go here, order real Chinese food and enjoy. I can't speak on the typical menu though. I'm sure it's just that typical.

Some pad thais simply do not bring the right ingredients together. I tries eating at the place and the interior is very nice. It has nice seats and offers and very relaxed atmosphere. The best thing about it is that they have wi-fi. Forget about having coffee and doing work. I'm getting pad thai and I'll be on my laptop doing work here. I had their menu for 8 euros which included pad thai, a drink, and a nem. It was just perfect for a student like me. Such a sham that I discovered this place just before I leave.

Dumplings & Co would be a 3 star rating were it not for all of the little subtleties that caught my attention. It was as if there were little peculiarities, little "this isn't quite what I expected" phenomena for me to pause and consider. Upon arrival from Rue de Gand, which has scarcely any vegetarian options among its famed restaurant road, I noticed that Dumplings & Co had vegetarian dumplings. Score. I only need to eat something, I thought. At first, for some reason, I thought the waitress/hostess did not speak much English, so we switched to Mandarin. Hot sauce for the dumplings - well, I'll be - it seemed like Korean gochujang (the hot sauce used for Bi Bim Bap). Well, that's different. Bubble tea - decent. I noticed the menu offered mantou, which was really baozi if you look at the picture. Haha, almost caught me. :) Dessert pancakes sandwiching red bean paste - okay. It also came with orange juice, which was novel. So, I was eager to know the region where our waitress grew up, given her accent was so unfamiliar. It turns out she is Faguoren! (French ;-)) She was delightfully helpful and amiable. It also turns out she speaks English far better than I speak Mandarin, so my first impression was mistaken. I was pleased, the meal was reasonable, and the service was charming.

I thought the dishes here would taste no different from the states but I was decently surprised. This chicken curry dish was very light and the chicken was done very well. Not dry and tasted really good and I am usually not a fan of chicken but this dish won me over. They have this fried noodle dish that is really addicting. I also tried the chicken feet dish done with black bean sauce and the chef made the meat so tender. All the food I tried here were exceptional and I definitely would come back here again since its a different taste than what you can get in the states.
