Just a visitor passing through town. Didn't know much about Autore or it's lineage until after the fact. Been training jiujitsu for almost 8 years, and I can be honest with myself, I'm not a quick learner. I require many repetitions and an annoying amount of questions to the teacher about who, what, when, how, and why. I spent three days at Autore and attended several classes per day in the gi, and No gi (which I'm terrible at.) Professor Gustavo emphasized his approach teaching Brazilian Jiujitsu that was digestible to the student. He is able to articulate and demonstrate concisely. I left adding jiujitsu techniques that I use and execute in live rounds! Come check this place out. Thank you Coaches!

    Spacious elevated mat space!

This place is awesome! Great environment and lots of open mat space. The classes are very well taught and the rolls are super tough! Make sure to check it out if you're in the Brentwood/West LA area

There's an awesome vibe at this school. Gustavo and Alexis are great teachers and also great leaders. They seem to magically always have time for you in every class--whether to give you advice or just to make sure you're okay. I am mostly appreciative of the safe and friendly environment that they have created. Everyone naturally supports each other and I'm super grateful to be a part of this community.

The atmosphere Gustavo and Alexi have created at this place is absolutely amazing in such an authentic way. No egos and relaxed vibes, classes run in format that allow you to practice the techniques followed by applying the knowledge with sparring rounds. Everyone learns from one another and always willing to help correct as well as celebrate successes. I cant recommend this place enough! Being outside under canopies provides constant fresh air and vibes of the city yet feel like a private oasis.

Family!! Not by blood but by passion and love of jiu-jitsu!!

They have women's only open mat from time to time and I think that is so neat. I haven't seen that in other places. The ratio of women is definitely higher than other dojos. So ladies, if you want to find sparring partners, this is definitely the place. It's super clean. Aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Bathrooms are equipped with showers. That's next level stuff. Parking: can be tough sometimes since it's street parking mostly. But definitely not koreatown level difficult. You can find parking.

I especially love Professor Anthony's morning classes - a great group of students, and Anthony's teaching methodology is fantastic - lots of ramping up from drilling to positional sparring, letting students acclimate at their own pace to using the techniques and concepts in progressively more live situations.

Dennis, the main coach, is so knowledgeable and welcoming, he really takes the time to understand his students strengths and build upon that, and he also takes the time to find the weaknesses and help patch that up. I like the class sizes because it is the right balance of one on one instruction and variety of training partners. As a woman in grappling it can be hard to find an environment where you feel comfortable and supported- I have definitely found that here, I feel so at ease training with these guys. This means a lot because jiujitsu is so male dominated, that it's hard to find somewhere suitable to train for women, but this place is. The balance between comfort and hard training is perfect here. I love their sense of community, events and outreach. This gym also does an incredible job at getting students competition ready, the medals speak for themselves.

This studio has plenty of complaints all over their yelp about horrible billing practices, not offering make-up classes (when out of town), etc. But because it is so close to where we live, I decided to give it a try. When I signed up, I was explicitly told that the membership was month-to-month and that I could cancel at any time. When summer break ended, I called to suspend my membership, but it was very difficult to reach anyone. I called the studio multiple times and left several messages with no response, which made the cancellation process unnecessarily frustrating. Eventually, I reached someone, but I was told that the next month had already been charged and that I would not receive a refund. They agreed to cancel the membership going forward. However, when the following month came, I was charged again. I went into the studio to resolve the issue and was told they use a third-party billing company and that they "have no control" over billing, and that I would need to contact the billing company myself. The staff was unhelpful and took no responsibility for resolving the problem. Based on my experience, this studio seems far more focused on collecting payments than on customer service or student satisfaction. If you're considering joining, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere and being very cautious about their billing practices.
