This is a rare kind of Australian souvenir store in that it doesn't sell things that reinforce this Crocodile Dundee, convict born, rough and ready, commodore driving, animal wrestling stereotypical idea of what Australia is about. Don't get me wrong, it does sell all that stuff, but it also puts a lot of emphasis into selling Australian products, rather than Australian 'ideas'.
Never fear, you can still find your "Crocodiles Next 5,000km" shirts, as well as your stubbie coolers with naked women on them, along with little koalas wearing felt jackets hanging off a keyring. On a side note, these guys have an almost exhaustive amount of plush native animals that you can't usually find elsewhere. What's really exciting to find is the room full of kangaroo skins, a wide range of Ugg boots, or a bedazzling collection of opals. There's a wide range of products made from native animals- emu oil, for example.
This is the place to come if you want to find something of a unique gift for your friends and family in foreign places. Last note: if you're looking for postcards, they do lack in the excellent tacky variety. That's the only downside to note. read more
