I never thought I'd say it about a bank but yes, I'm a fan of HSBC Bondi Junction. Everything about…read morethe experience of banking with them is excellent. In fact they are the absolute opposite of all the things I usually associate with banks. For me the experience of banks had always been long queues, rude and unhelpful staff and fees, fees, fees. While HSBC Bondi Junction is always a relatively quiet branch, or at least it is every time I've gone in, the queues if there are any are one or two people maximum. The service is efficient and the staff are friendly, helpful and extremely polite. I opened an online savings account with them and I pay absolutely no fees. None, zero, zilch. No matter how many times I withdraw money from atms, or pay by etfpos there are no fees. HSBC is the opposite of everything I associate with banks and I love them for it.

All the tellers are lovely, helpful, and don't seem in a hurry to get to the next customer (no matter how long the lines are), like the other banks tellers do. That's some good employee training. That, and they have good, flexible options for storing my money, and generous interest rates for the savings accounts. As well, don't you just love their advertising campaign? Breaking up with the other banks? Genius.

I came here with my niece because she needed to do some banking. I've notice banking in Australia…read moreis a bit different than in the States. As soon as we entered the bank, we were greeted by someone and asking us what kind of service we needed so she can enter into her iPad. From there we just sit and wait. As we were sitting I noticed that there were several self service counters where you can: -view, update or open an account -transfer money or pay a bill -activate your card or change a pin There were several ATMs inside and outside of the bank. If you need to do any other transactions, then you can walk all the way to the end of the bank. Furthermore, if you need to sit down with someone to go over your account, you can too!

I often wonder why people complain about big banks when there are options like Qantas Staff Credit…read moreUnion. Perhaps the name puts people off as you would think that you need to be a staff member of Qantas, but the reality is that they have a pretty liberal policy of who can join including if you know someone who has an account there ;-) , or work in Aviation, Hospitality, or Government.... The big advantage of this credit union is that they charge very low fees, give great interest rates, and have great service. What more could you ask for.....well perhaps the other thing is they don't have many branches, there are ones at most of the large airports, but to be honest I have never found this to be a problem as the ATM card is accepted at Westpac/St George ATM with no fees, and you can make cash/cheque deposits at Westpac branches too. I used to bank with a large bank, and they charged $5 a month fee, I changed to QSCU and there are no monthly fees, and i get a transaction allowance. Hopefully this doesnt sound like an ad, but I love this organisation, especially as an alternative to the big banks with their fees.
