If you're familiar with the Mecca stores then…read moreyou'll feel right at home in the Kit Cosmetics concession that is in the first floor of the CBD Myer store. They stock an entirely different set of ranges to Mecca and most tend to fall into a lower price point than some of the higher end brands you'd find in Mecca stores. But the quality and curation of only the best of the best remain (they're owned buy the same people). And true to their staff ethos, I've always encountered professional and eager to help staff in this concession. Plus they've never been overly pushy or those kind of sale people to follow you around endlessly once you've indicated you're just browsing. Pro Tip: looking for new makeup products but not sure where to start? Book in for one of their makeup application appointments. The cost is redeemable on product and you'll walk out feeling like a million dollars.

The owners (Salvatore Battaglia and his partner, Carolyn Stubbin) started selling their natural, organic lotions and potions around 20 years ago at the Petrie Markets. Now it's the first Australian company to have obtained certified natural cosmetics (BDIH) status from Europe for the majority of their products. And most of the essential oils that Perfect Potions offer are certified organic too. And at aruond $25-$40, it's not out of reach of most people's budgets either. I tried a few lotions and potions recently - and it reminds me of British brand, Neals Yard (which I love and was worried I'd not get anything as good here). Well I was wrong. And I'm a new, utterly devoted groupie of the brand's frankincense and rose moisture cream.

Whilst the products are not cheap, in my experience they are incredibly good value with a little going a very long way that has had me comparing dollar for dollar against what appears to be cheaper alternatives but Jurlique comes out the winner. I also love how it makes my skin feel. No alcohol/chemical dryness or greasy layer that I experience with cheaper chemically based products. If you're new to the product the team instore will walk you through your skin care routine and needs to make sure that you get what's right for you. As an added bonus they have little starter kits so you can try a small amount before shelling out your hard earned cash for larger quantities. This store also has a day spa which is a wonderful way to experience the products first hand. My recent visit to this store in Wintergarden was the first in 12 months (that's how long my 145ml moisturiser lasts!) and the lady serving me remembered me from my previous visit... a great memory and a great customer service experience for me. This visit I learned that you can also bring your empty containers back for a 10% discount on the next purchase.

Having tried out another salon nearby and deciding they just weren't for me, I am now firmly on the Brazilian Beauty train. Once a month you will see me wandering down Vernon Terrace to their little salon. Walking in is like transporting yourself to a beautiful oasis. There is lots of comfortable seating and while you wait you will be surrounded by a wide variety of products and samples to play with. You can sip on the kettle of herbal tea being gently warmed by a tealight candle or just soak up the relaxing, soothing music and essential oil blends permeating the air. My therapist, Beth is a skilled woman! She takes care of all of my waxing requirements and is down to earth and professional. Wax is always fresh and it takes just 20 minutes for her to do a full brazilian! I also see Kaitlin every few months for my anti-wrinkle needs. A qualified injectible practitioner, Kaitlin is very knowledgeable and skilled at what she does. I've been to countless salons and she honestly gives me the best results out of any of them. Her treatments are painless and effective and I am left with minimal recovery time. I have also had a spray tan (my first ever!) administered by Charlotte, the salon manager. It was a fantastic experience and I will always be thankful for her patience that day! I can't wait to try more of the treatments available!

Brooklyn is definitely not the cheapest place in town, but their facilities are simple and clean, and has the interiors of a Brooklyn loft. The place also wasn't overwhelmingly musty with the smell of incense or air freshener, which was a huge plus for this allergy-prone customer. The girls there are super friendly, quick at their job, and have the cutest outfits complete with a bow tie. Love it!

There are few things in life that can make a gal feel like a classier broad than red lipstick, a fresh manicure, heels and a blow dry. On a whim, I stopped in to the newly-opened Brooklyn Beauty Bar and asked if they'd have time to squeeze me in for a shellac mani. (Note to self: plan these things in advance). They could and within 45mins I was out the door with nails not tallons and sporting a glossy mushroom coloured shellac. There was no awkward small talk between my nail technician and I - my kind of experience. The fit out of Brooklyn Beauty Bar makes you feel like you've possibly walked into a super cool lounge bar where a suitably Don Draper-esque waiter will serve you a dirty Manhattan. The girls have done a great job and I've already booked for a return visit!

So, I gave her the flick and came here and haven't looked back. Always a happy experience and I find them reasonably priced. Massage chairs at the basin are an added bonus.

Trusting someone to tend to your brows is a delicate choice as I'm sure many fellow lady Yelpers…read morewill understand. It's a tumultuous relationship and one wrong move can see you passively aggressively ignoring your former beautician and starting a fresh with someone new. I decided to put my faith in In Therapy in Brisbane's Red Hill in the hope they'd restore my trust and give me the neat and tidy brows I so longed for after a rather disastrous brow wax some two months ago. With the growing out finally done it was time to put myself back on the market, so to speak. Their service menu claimed they "specialise in fabulous brows" and I eagerly set off to see just how fabulous my brows would be. I'm greeted by my technician and ushered into a therapy room and it's not unlike any other brow waxing experience of the past 12 or more years. Before long my technician has spent some 20 minutes working her magic on my brows and when I see them in the small hand mirror she provides to me I am proud to say, "Why yes, don't you two look fabulous." Back in their trim and tidy shape I happily pay $24 for the experience. Of course, brows isn't the only treatment In Therapy offers. They are a full-service beauty salon offering massage, facials, spray tan, mani and pedis. Perhaps the best thing that my sensitive skin praised them for was their use of organic strawberry wax. There was no extremely redden skin afterwards or strange looks from onlookers as I walked back to the office. With this being my second visit to In Therapy (the previous for a file and polish of the ol' fingernails) I can say that each time I walk in I feel instantly calm and like I'm away from the hustle of city life. I can't wait to go back and try more from their service menu. The lesson: sometimes it is good to branch out, try something new. Who knows what might happen? I think I've just found a brow spot to go steady with....
