I took the 10 mile round trip from the interstate to Enfield NC to visit Aunt Ruby's Peanuts for some Christmas gifts. I had seen the billboards for years, and the recent WRAL "Tar Heel Traveler" story peeked my interest enough to want to see the place. The business has wisely invested in well placed signs to make the journey off of the interstate to their location easy. The store itself is an unpretentious small no frills room. You'll enjoy the aroma of freshly cooked nuts, and have a small window to view peanuts being prepared. Plenty of samples are there for the varieties available for purchase. Products are neatly arranged for bulk purchases, individual containers, or multipacks, Discounts are available for larger qualities. I purchased a pre packed multipack for Christmas gifts. Employees, while busy, were pleasant and made me feel appreciated for taking the time to come off the interstate to their store. read more

The signs are deceiving. I saw the signs while driving from NC to MD and decided to stop. Yes, they do have boiled peanuts as advertised, but they're literally the canned ones you get at the gas station, same brand and set up. So, if you're looking to stop there solely for homemade boiled peanuts, then don't. Plus it's a bit of a distance from the interstate. Wasn't worth it. I'm not a fan of peanuts other than the boiled ones so there other peanut products didn't appeal to me. Again, the whole advertisement on the interstate WASN'T their brittle or salted nuts. Traveling up 95 North and saw the signs for this place so stopped in. Totally worth the 10 min detour off the highway. We dug into the Chocolate covered peanuts before heading back on the road and they are AMAZING! We got 6 different jars to try. The gentleman behind the counter was really nice and even showed us a route that took us off 95 North to see some of the backroads North Carolina. read more

Be careful! These peanuts will RUIN you for all other peanuts!! I can't eat any other peanuts after being introduced to these! Huge, super crunchy, perfectly salted peanuts - they are amazing! We did go to the store in Enfield once and probably won't go back. It's a bit of a drive off the highway and there's not much else out that way. They do have free samples, including their chocolate covered nuts and brittle! Instead I regularly order from them online. Sign up for their emails and you can order in bulk when they have a good sale or free shipping. Either way their customer service is top notch. Very friendly in the store and once (out of many items ordered) we had a problem with an item we ordered online. We emailed them late at night and were called early the next morning with Aunt Ruby's quickly rectifying the situation. Two years ago I had never heard of these peanuts. Just when you think that peanuts are just peanuts, along comes Aunt Ruby's. A quick journey off of I-95 past some cotton fields and converted tobacco farms and through the have-seen-better days town of Enfield, you'll find what I now consider the epicenter of the peanut world, A&B Milling Company aka Aunt Ruby's Peanuts. Not an ordinary peanut by any means. The most delicious, peanuty, perfectly roasted goober I have ever tasted. When nature and the roaster meet in a crescendo that would make George Washington Carver take notice, you've got peanut perfection. I closely examined each peanut (yes, a little OCD) prior to eating eat. They were all perfect. All with a deep flavor and perfect crunch. No softness. No mealiness. Just perfect peanuts each and every one of them. And to think I passed by 100's of times without stopping. Forget South of the Border and all the "largest" fireworks stores. Move over Crazy Cecil and back up Biscuitville, Aunt Ruby's is my new/old got-to-stop halfway destination on trips to Florida from now on. read more

As peanut shops in this area of 95 a let down, very limited selection available and most were without much zest to them. Cajun and most others were pretty bland, honey roasted were good, standard Virginia blister peanuts ok, white chocolate cashew cluster were good but the nuts I tried with standard chocolate tasted off . The better stop for me was a few more exits north of there just off 95, with a larger selection of options and better quality in my opinion. read more

These are very fresh -- noticeably more than the canned stuff you get in the supermarket -- and make a nice gift if you need to bring something home. Lots of spicy and/or sweet varieties to choose from. As for the billboard that says "five minutes from the exit," it's really more like ten minutes, so don't be surprised. Enfield will give you an interesting look at what a real southern town looks like. read more

I'm my opinion not a good place to do business with, I received a stale order of peanuts almost a week late. I call Bob the manger/owner and he let me know that he could care less as long as I received them. If I could they would get zero star. Not right off the highway, but worth the little detour. All of the huge signs on the highway gave me the impression it was popular tourist trap. (similar to Shuckers) I was surprised to see after driving through country, and then a seemingly deserted small town center, that it was a small shop adjunct to the mill. I was so kindly greeted, and had beautiful small talk with the ever so sweet woman working there. A few (seemingly) employees walked thru (from the mill side) and were just as kind. I'm from NJ, so that gorgeous small town southern charm works magic on me. The shop is small with stacks of tinned peanuts, and other peanuts (which I didn't take much notice to). As u walk thru the door there's a long sample table of everything they offer. Clean, simple decor. I bought the honey roasted, which were great, and the country style which we fell in love with. They're unusually crunchy, nothing like we've had ever before. They're so good we plan to get them for little Christmas presents for friends and family. I'm glad picked up a catalog. They're so unusual, a real fresh, peanut-y flavor. Lightly salted. I have to say it again, so unusually good, like nothing I've had before. If u like peanuts, they're a must try. We will definitely b taking the little detour on our trip down to Florida next year. (side note that I had to mention: the library, seemingly town hall and actual police department are all in separate store fronts in the deserted little town center. Most of the other store fronts are empty. It was too unusual not to mention. Seems like a very nice town, shame so many of the businesses closed.) read more

Was brought here by a local for the peanuts that are well-known in the area. The retail area is clean with samples of the different peanuts offered. They even have raw peanuts in small sacks. The peanuts look and taste good. I got a can of the Cajun and Roasted Redskins. I think I'm hooked on a Cajun. I'm trying not to eat them all. The Redskins were for my Redskins friends who are fans. Both go well with Cheerwine. Only in Carolina! read more

Very small town and this place is probably the only game there! But really these are the BEST tasting peanuts! What a great little place. I should say big. But really the storefront is nice, clean and just peanuts! Staff is extra friendly and helpful! They know their peanuts and they should! That's all they do! They have samples for you to try - which is what we did happily! I got the Redskin peanuts and Honey Almonds. My husband picked the country style peanuts. Those are the 3 kinds that we took home. Bad experience this year! I've been receiving the 25 Lb box of salted in the shell peanuts for years without any issues, except for an occasional piece of wood in the box! However this year was a total disappointment! I contacted Aunt Ruby's Peanuts directly, and spoke with the owner, to complain that the peanuts I received were stale! He promptly informed me that the peanuts were not stale, but under roasted! Since Aunt Ruby's doesn't roast the peanuts themselves, he said he has no control over the roasting process! I asked if I could return the shipment, however he stated Aunt Ruby's does not have a return policy! The only suggestion he had, was to either re-roast the peanuts before eating them, or feed them to the squirrels! No offer to replace the shipment! Since this shipment was a gift from a friend, I'll make sure he requests a credit or do a charge back. read more

first tried to order from Aunt Ruby's with a special code from their website which did not work so emailed customer service and never received a response. but bought four large bags of Roasted and Salted In The Shell Roasted anyway, and received absolutely stale peanuts that must have been roasted ages ago. their peanuts are in zip bags, not vacuum sealed, and one large bag even had a hole punched in the front making them even staler. also the regular roasted peanuts were BETWEEN RAW AND ROASTED requiring placing in the oven for additional roasting time. I bought $55 worth of peanuts from Aunt Ruby's directly assuming I would receive a quality fresh product.. HUGELY disappointed. read more

I have ordered the roasted redskin peanuts many times before and they have been the small peanuts and were the best in the land. Now they are the jumbo peanuts and I spoke with the owner and he said they have always been the jumbo nuts. The catalog even says and shows the small nuts and says "in the style of Spanish peanuts". He was more or less calling me a liar or was losing my mind one. I'm not either because every person I shared them with have said they were never the jumbo nuts. So as much as I loved those I will not be buying from Aunt Ruby's Peanuts again read more

After years of traveling from Maryland to Florida I finally decided to stop here. I am very mad at myself for not stopping sooner. My husband and I really like all types of nuts and I can honestly say these are the best we ever had. I bought salt and pepper peanuts and country peanuts. I picked up the white chocolate cashews by accident ( wanted plain) and boy was I glad I bought them. I will never be able to eat a mass chain peanut again. Thank goodness for mail order.
