It's really disheartening to see the options for "spiritual shops" or "botanicas" in this city/Midwest period. Most of these places don't have the things I need or are solely ran by white people. We took an Uber all the way to this shop with hopes of our needs being met. And not only was the energy off but the selection was not at all what we expected. There was a woman behind the counter who I assumed to be the owner by her demeanor. But her stoic facial expressions while customers were trying to crack simple jokes to break the tension in the air, told me everything I needed to know. This trippy place is hard to explain...it is a mix of Occult and New Age stuff...billed as a spiritual and health shop. Hard to explain but one that is worth visiting. If you really believe in good and the spiritual, you pretty much have to agree there might also be a dark side to the same forces...and you'll find some of all of it here. The staff is over-the-top - outgoing and helpful...they will draw you in and help you with anything you might be searching for...good stuff. They stock loads of incense in all its forms (crystals, stems, cones, etc.), candles, oils, potions, mixtures, stones, a small but interesting book section, voodoo items, herbs, roots, charms, jewelry, geometric magical pendants, bath and body soaps, salt lamps, bowls and art-craft from Nepal and Tibet, Native American items, prayer beads, and all sorts of witchcraft and mystical items. When it comes to spiritual...this place undoubtedly has something that will strike your fancy. They also offer classes in the spiritual. Located in Bridgeport on South Halsted Street just a few blocks from White Sox park...they used to be in a storefront on the west side of the street but relocated to the east side a few years ago. Well worth the trip...it was a fun adventure. You don't have to buy anything and can just look around. The staff will make you feel at home...the neighborhood (Mayor Daley's old area) is just fine...safe and easy to get around. There is street parking right out front. I wanted to like this shop, but the experience and service was just terrible. I walked into the shop only to find overpriced low quality crystals. However, that's not the worst part. They have all their crystals in jar and don't let you hand pick the crystals. I've never been into a crystal shop that I can't feel them before purchasing. There's also multiple signs letting you know that "they're watching me" giving a not very holistic environment". Instead, the employees acted hostile and made me and my siblings feel unwanted. Lastly, when I paid with a debit card, they asked me for an ID. I asked why an ID was needed if a PIN is a primary identification. They said it was to avoid fraud, but again, doesn't make sense. I wonder if they act like this with everyone that walks in or if they only act like this with BIPOC. read more

Today was not a good experience at Augustines. This was my 2nd time in the place. The gentleman that addressed me was rude and gave very negative energy. I was looking at the Chakra stones trying to determine which set I like best. I put one bag in my hand over the things on the shelf so if one happened to fall out of my hand it would not get away from me. He told me "don't open the bags please". Since I was on the phone I didn't say anything, we he can back I asked if he could clarify what he said. He told me that the stones get lost and repeated his previous statement. I totally understand his point now. His delivery needed a lot of work. His negativity was so off putting that I left without the stones. If you don't want people to open the stones seal them in a clear plastic bag so people can see what they are getting. read more

He told me to reach out to the owner via FB but didn't provide any guidance on how to get in touch. I ended up calling a spiritual shop in Dallas to get the names of crystals I bought here. I left a review on Google, the owner messaged me requesting I take my review down. Yelp took down my review here. It's sad and nasty, this idea of erasure. I'm not sure where all of the rivalry started between the original location that was called Augustine's Spiritual Goods and the new ownership of what is called Augustine's Eternal Gifts, but the store that exists now is a pretty good store if you're looking for spiritual/occult items. I can't compare it to "the original" because I never went there when it was "the original". I have been in this store and it does have a huge selection of candles, oils, herbs, charms, amulets and a large library of books of a spiritual nature. I don't know that much about the stuff so I can't vouch for the current owner's knowledge of the genre, but the selection speaks volumes for me. Not being into crystals and candles, I can at least say that they've got a good selection of tarot decks and information, as well as a little spot for voodoo dolls and lucky charms. You can never have too much good luck, in my opinion. And as for the voodoo dolls . . . let's just call it "wishful thinking"! read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I most certainly would. I've looked past Augustine's for years and finally decided that I needed to check it out. I haven't shopped for crystals in awhile and since Covid a few of the metaphysical stores I frequent have closed. Pros: Location, it's located in Bridgeport which is only a short distance from me and there is plenty of street parking (metered) all around. Upon walking in the store I was partially greeted by 2 person behind the counter, (hardly) which I thought was strange coming into a metaphysical store. I didn't mind because granted they were dealing with a customer who was overly chatty. I could sense that the guy behind the counter was agitated by the small talk. I overheard the customer say that her first few encounters with this guy, who I'm assuming is the owner that he came off really rude & nasty. I was shocked by his response. "I don't really like people much, most people who come in here are broken and they don't want to buy stuff they just want to talk". I love a person who is honest but I began to question whether or not this person was in the right business. He then proceeded to go on about how he uses and practices "Dragon Energy" and how he came to find out his wife cheated on him and so on and so forth. What I picked up was a grumpy old soul, who'd traveled here one too many times and was tired. This is a service based business and ultimately we are all here to serve. I seemed more of an annoyance than a customer. Being that it is a pandemic and so many businesses have been forced to close its doors you'd think this guy would show a bit of appreciation to his customers. There are signs all over asking not to touch certain things which is understandable. I had to keep going to the counter every time I wanted to see a crystal because well, you can't open the jars. Which is weird I've traveled all over to metaphysical stores and this is the first where everything was so hands off. I asked the man for assistance in regards to herbs behind the counter, which they also keep on a rounding rack in the sales floor. He let me know that the herb I was seeking should be on the floor and to look there, unknowingly that I'd already looked but I decided to check again. Yea, it wasn't there. So I head back to the counter and at this time at least 4 other women were in the store. I overheard the guy yell out to one of them not to touch or open the jars and to bring them up front if they wanted to see something. I figured that someone who doesn't like dealing with people all that much and making small talk has an off system he runs by having to have so much contact constantly with people. He proceeded to bag the herb I wanted and it seemed as if he made up a price on the spot. Not to mention I have my sellers permit and am more than aware of pricing and this place is expensive in comparison to some other shops I've visited. My birthday just recently passed and I noticed with the purchase of Zodiac candle you get free candle dressing. Yes, the candles in my opinion are expensive. I was proceeding to check out and noticed they weren't going to dress the candle so when I asked the man behind the counter he snarled and said yes. No way was I having that energy dress/bless anything for me. His energy is dark, uninviting and made me put back half the things I planned on purchasing. I wanted to inquire about singing bowls but honestly would never spend that sort of money patronizing a place like this. I had to work so hard to preserve and protect my spirit while in this store. They seemed overwhelmed and annoyed. The young woman at the register with the piercing was helpful and nice but somehow had gotten frazzled when this certain guy walked in. She said it was her friends ex boyfriend and based off the energy she gave you can tell this guy was bad business. She asked for her 15 minute break and bolted out the door. (This was all before I made my final purchase). Not certain if she was still taken a back but she wound up mixing in crystals that I hadn't even picked out and didn't notice until I got home that I had stones I didn't even know what they were and that she'd charged me for them. I absolutely LOVE this place! I've been to many spiritual stores in different places, and states. However this place is my new favorite to go for whatever I may need. The selection is huge, the staff are amazing. I was able to speak freely without being judged, or feeling out of place or unwelcomed. I was 100% greeted with warmth, kindness and it was as if we had known eachother for years. Scott was so welcoming, and very helpful. The selection of herbs, oils, lotions, candles, books, tarot cards and many other items, were amazing. I went in for 2 items, and well bought a box full literally. I plan on making this my only go to place. I've even spoken to the owner via online, which I can't say I have ever received a personal reply back from one. She is a very kind, and welcoming person. Keeping this review short and sweet. My favorite psychic healer Scott (Stitch) no longer works here; but he was one of the truest, kindest and MOST LEGITIMATE psychic healers I've known who could actually bless and dress candles that ACTUALLY WORKED! He was incredibly and naturally psychic and Augustine's lost a gifted healer so I will miss his presence. I have visited this occult supply store over the years and the candles vary in prices. I was in dire need of a 7 day candle that was gold metallic. Thankfully the sales clerk pulled one for me but unfortunately there wasn't any pricing listed so I was charged $10 for a gold metallic candle that I woukd have been able to purchase at another candle shop for $5.50. I needed it badly so I accepted the higher price and I'm grateful he was at least able to find me one to use for prayer work this evening Also I don't like being catty but in the past I purchased two beautiful, long smoky quartz wands here from Brazil with so many inclusions that they both broke apart and they were very very delicate. I paid so much money for each wand so I was so disappointed that they broke so easily. This shop is extraordinarily clean and all of the staff members were always so helpful and polite with the exception of a former employee named Crystal who was somewhat irritable and moody especially with me. Stitch was truly a gem and that's why I'm giving four stars. Some of the prices here aren't very fair; it all depends on which candle or crystal you decide to purchase. I support small businesses but charging me $10 for one 7 day candle isn't very karmically correct. Also an expensive wand should not break that easily either. I actually own several crystal wands that have never broken quite so easily. I give 4 stars for the beautiful healing work Stitch did for me because he was a shining light. I always send POSITIVE karma to small independent businesses who offer unique magical supplies. But please have a heart and Don't take advantage of your customers in a time of need by escalating your prices it simply isn't karmically correct when everyone here in Chicago is going through financially challenging times. read more

Honestly glad I found this place. Grew up on Halsted, and am personally very spiritual so I am surprised I haven't found this place any sooner. They have a great selection of spiritual and religious items. I love the large selection of incense and crystal. Today I bought a meditation bracelet, and one of staff said the specific bracket tends to attract the sign of Capricorns, which is what I am! Also, bought three Spirtual pendant necklaces. The people there are always helpful and will give recommendations on anything you might need. They also offer services outside of the shop, which is nice. I recently acquired some custom blends (oil), the price is quite reasonable, the oil itself smells really nice and energizes both your aura and one's personal space. Augustine's has a good selection of candles and incense. I would say that it's best if you'd like to stock up on candles and similar supplies. I find it's my go-to place if I want a well made, unique candle for my altar. The space is small and so while the books they do stock tend to be good, there isn't much room to have a larger book selection. So this place is super creepy, but they know their stuff. I came here just to get some incense, but the store has a HUGE selection of candles, lotions, potions (yes, actual potions), books, crystals, incense holders, and all things mystical. The store even grows many of the herbs that are in its potions and lotions. The store has a whole wall full of glass jars filed with various concoctions. The woman working in the store was super creepy, but she was nice enough to tell me and my friend about the store and to help us find what we were looking for. I steered clear of anything voodoo like and bought two boxes of incense and a bunch of sage to burn around the house. Both smell fantastic. They had a very small book selection and I chose the pictorial key to the tarot by waite and bought it for 13 something. I leave and take the price sticker off the back and the publishing company's price was 9.99 or 10.99... The publishing company sells it to them for less yet they marked it up again? This is one of my favorite "occult" shops in the city. I go here when the typical oil from a botanica will not do. The staff will custom blend any oil you ask for using essential oils. They also make their own spiritual baths. Many are available on the shelf but they are more than happy to custom blend any bath you ask for. This place has a wider candle selection than some of the botanicas I've been to. They cater more to "new agers" but they also have a decent selection of Wicca and hoodoo items. Not many Santeria items but they do carry a few hard-to-find lithographs that are out of print. They are usually busy but if you are patient, they will give you their undivided attention. read more
