It's a passageway named after a Royal Danish Ballet choreographer. A very cool find while passing through Kongens Nytorv.
There is more to it than meets the eye from the square. You'll get a great view of the arched tower of the old Royal Danish Theatre. It is what's underneath the arch that makes it more special. There's a Venetian glass mosaic that Ejnar Nielsen created on the ceiling of the arch. It depicts well-known Danish writers, artists, scientists, and philosophers along with classical symbolism of life in Copenhagen.
I'm telling you all of this hoping that you don't make the same mistake that I did. We saw it from the beginning of the passage which is already lovely as an exterior view. I didn't know what lied underneath it until reading about it later. Make sure that you walk underneath it to get that gorgeous view of the mosaic.
At the time, the passageway didn't look all that inviting due to barricades that were set up around it. I'm guessing it was there for the annual marathon in the month of May. We won't make that mistake next time. It's totally worth a look while you're there. read more
