This is the first castle I visited when I moved to Germany so it holds a special place in my heart.
Its a smallish castle, in ruins, that you can walk around and explore. There isn't a museum or a guided tour, you just do it yourself.
If you're up for it, its worth the walk from the lower parking lot. It takes about 30-45 minutes, up hill most of the way, on a paved road until the very end which is a dirt road. If you're not 'up for it', drive as far up as you can and park at the foot of the castle. You will still have to walk up a hill but its reasonable.
Entrance to the castle & parking are free.
There is a restaurant with German food for reasonable prices reviewed in another section.
The castle is family friendly and offers events on some occasions - check the website: http://www.schloss-auerbach.de read more
