I came here to attend the medieval dinner. I booked it through the USO with the military. There are period actors all dressed up and they serve you food without forks and mead in clay cups. It was a really fun experience. If you ever get the chance, do it! It's held inside the castle and if you get there early, you can walk around and check out the castle grounds as well. It was part of the dinner ticket. read more

A lovely place to visit and go walking. You can drive most of the way up (it's quite steep), park (it's free) and then go off into the forest and end up in the Schloss for a wander round the grounds, and a beer. They have a lovely medieval style restaurant, which is reviewed under a different section. They hold regular events here; from medieval tournaments to theatre pieces and concerts. This is the first castle I visited when I moved to Germany so it holds a special place in my heart. Its a smallish castle, in ruins, that you can walk around and explore. There isn't a museum or a guided tour, you just do it yourself. If you're up for it, its worth the walk from the lower parking lot. It takes about 30-45 minutes, up hill most of the way, on a paved road until the very end which is a dirt road. If you're not 'up for it', drive as far up as you can and park at the foot of the castle. You will still have to walk up a hill but its reasonable. Entrance to the castle & parking are free. There is a restaurant with German food for reasonable prices reviewed in another section.
