I…read morealways love walking into thrift stores and seeing what people have discarded, only to be rediscovered by someone else. As soon as you walk in you realize this isn't your average thrift store. The store is well laid out, organized and has that fantastic smell of used gear (but in a good way); it all brings back good memories of the past. They have a good assortment of records (yes vinyl is making a comeback). And they are dirt cheap; mostly costing less than a buck! I picked up two records and it cost me a toonie. How great is that!! The store shelves are organized in a great way, great friendly and inviting owners, wonderful jazz music was playing in the background, housewares, books, clothing, toys, electronics and even furniture were available to snap up. Be careful, walk into Junk in the Trunk and you'll be walking into a time-warp that you may not want to leave.

This would be one of the less stimulating galleries I've entered based on the current exhibition on…read morethe main floor, but the most captivating part of my visit was when I spent time in the lower level. Take a walk downstairs and not only will you find a variety of interesting art, but also a very chatty and knowledgeable man who will make your visit something to talk about. I heard some interesting stories and was educated about a variety of artists including Raymond Theriault. One of his pieces was pulled from the back for my friend and I to see to enhance our learning. This interactive experience made my first stop to The Collectors' Gallery worthwhile.

I wandered into the Espy Experience on a chilly evening a few weeks ago and in need of some better…read moregloves. I left with a very nice pair of leather gloves that were on sale. Espy is mostly a women's clothing store, but if you're into denim, they have a wide selection on the men's side. I found store staff to be funky, friendly, fun, and helpful, offering as much personal space as I needed to contemplate any possible purchases. They also offer "closet intervention" services, which considering my casual (and sometimes baggy and color-bending) clothing choices, would most welcome. But only under Gayle's supervision. :)

I bought them last week using a groupon I'd purchased months ago. Always love going in there to see the new stuff as I'm not really a "fashion" guy but really appreciate their help. I'm not always sure what will look good on me based on how it looks on the rack. Megan and Adam are always really helpful and I end up with stuff that I really like. This past spring I called Megan to tell her I was heading to Paris and was having trouble finding a wool pea coat. She told me that they had just been in London and she put her boyfriend in a 7diamonds coat that looked great. She showed me the pictures on the website, ordered it in and I had it in my hands 3 days later. Now that's service. Espy definitely isn't the cheapest place in town but I'd gladly spend my money on quality things that I really like vs cheaping out on just ok ish stuff that I end up not wearing. I can usually expect to go in there looking for one thing but finding others too. Today I was just going to pick up the hemmed jeans but ended up leaving with a new pair of Steve Madden shoes. When I walked into Rustic Residence, the interior designer and a friend were organising the store's…read morewares. What I saw was an eclectic selection of home decoration items, from very unique furniture sets to a hand carved moose head made out of wood on the wall. The designer explained to me that the owner wanted to provide the community with something different, hand selected objects and bigger functional pieces but that were made of quality materials that added an artistic slant to your decor. I saw an amazing thick slab of wood that acted as a wine bottle holder; there were architectural pieces from the turn of the century that were refurbished to a more old meets new hutch or dresser. There were some really nice stained glass pieces and some awesome bowls hollowed out of beautiful pine. The store also has a lower level which carries more of the upholstered items in the store. Prices here are upper end, but I could see the reasoning behind them, as they are not factory made pieces that are churned out for mass production; you are getting a carved wooden moose head that is one of a kind that you won't see at your neighbour's house or any other household in Canada. The place also pairs furniture and objects with visual art from local artisans, there were many lovely original paintings to choose from yet again to provide punch to your decor. R and R provide R and R. In that each object has a nice unique energy and would really complement any eclectic home.

Ive had problems with broken, or missing items. This has happened 4 times. I understand they are…read morebusy, and it happens, they sell a lot of products. When I go to return or find out what happened. I get a bad attitude, Recently I returned an item that was supposed to be a set like the picture. There was only one which made it useless to me. I went back and forth with one of the workers there. I left the item there and told I would receive a refund. A week later no refund. Darla you just lost a good customer. I expect to receive what I bought. I have more important things to do then drive back, get in an argument, leave the item. Told I would receive a refund then get blown off. Keep my money and the item. Im sure you will repost and sell it again. Buyer beware.
