Whether for a hens night, birthday, engagement or excuse to get pissed and paint it was popular. Lo and behold- the think tanks behind cork and chroma are..... Drum roll please.... From Chicago. Having left for greener pastures they set up their first studio in Brisbane and after gaining momentum have opened up in Surry Hills in I must say a beautiful location. I am a toddler painter but after fantastic instruction on the type of brush, stroke, angle, colour of paint and more I left with a full on masterpiece to hang above the fireplace!!! Great way to socialise, listen to music, drink, eat and tap into that inner artist in all of us- Cork and Chroma is where you need to have your next shindig!!!

After joining a local cricket club (aptly named The Dregs), we've been training mid-week at the nets at North Sydney Boys High School - after the kids have cleared out for the day, of course. Net hire is a pittance, and while there's only two nets the astroturf is in good condition and the nets are as wide as the day is long, allowing batsmen to open the shoulders up and go for full-blooded shots. Hell, you can dance down the wicket and try and loft one out of the nets and onto the roof of the gymnasium if you like, although you'll have to pick the hole in roof of the chain-link fencing which is tougher than you might imagine. And while you're slinging down a bit of chin music you can laugh at the dudes playing tennis AKA suckball on the concrete courts next to you. Pfft, losers.

I feel so much more confident and I had such a good teacher. I really found the exercises to be helpful and they don't take up much time either. It's great to feel better and know what to do. I raved so much to my HR manager that they've sent a whole lot more people. And from what I've heard,they all seem to like the courses too. Which is a good recommendation isn't it.

The Actors Centre has a very reputable name Australia wide, and provides a wide range of course…read moretopics and sizes. The main focus is acting, and the various types or sub-categories, but they do others, such as singing. You can study full time, part time, do a short course (8 weeks, for example), or even just do a drop-in class for one night, to see what it's all about. If you've never done anything like this before, I'd recommend the drop-in classes. They're very confortable classes that even the most basic beginner can feel comfortable to explore acting in. I've just started an 8-week singing course, and being quite scared of my own voice, I was unsure how comfortable I'd feel. But I needn't have worried; they accomodate for every skill level in a comfortable happy environment. If you are driven to achive a certain level, you may find that the courses are a little slow-paced, but I suppose you can try to control what you achieve by pushing yourself a little further. The tutors are great, the venue is really cool, and the place has a great reputation. A great environment!

I really love this place for many reasons, but probably mostly for their drop in classes.... they have improvisation classes and acting for camera classes and with new teachers and students each week, every experience will be different. Classes cost $30, but because they're drop in there's no commitment beyond the 2 hours.... Rumour has it a few days after Geoffrey Rush won his Oscar he was back here taking a drop in class.... so if it's good enough for that Oscar winner, it's good enough for me!

The course took us through the history of the coffee bean, and how to identify different types of beans, either Arabica, or Robusta. Two people per coffee machine, we were taught lecture style, about the technique, and then asked to do it ourselves with guidance. Starting with technique to froth and pour milk, then coffee. So there are several things required to be correct for a good coffee: - Water at 92 degrees - 7 grams of ground coffee - 30ml of pressurised water - 18kg of force when compacting coffee - between 20-30 seconds to push the pressurised water through the ground coffee It was a great time, and they also offer coffee froth art classes, to do on the same day.

I decided to enrol in a coffee making course here last year; not because I wanted to become a…read morebarista: but just for fun to sharpen up my coffee making skills from when I was ding a bit of barista work 12 years earlier. It was amazing how quickly making those cappuccinos and lattes came back to me. It was heaps of fun, although it was a bit cramped having to share a coffee machine with another person; although it was around the MasterChef time, and the foodies wanted to do more and more with their creativity; especially when cooking courses were also in vogue. It was great to be served a delicious hot chocolate by Babette before I started my 3 hour all you can make coffee journey on a Saturday afternoon, and I actually now know how to make chai lattes too. It was easy to make the coffees, drink them and then bin them. I felt sorry for the cows that afternoon considering that I used a garbage bin full of milk while singing to the music and bopping around while I was making the coffees. At the end of the course I was exhausted. They then taught us how to clean the coffee machines, and I was just way too tired to listen.
