We stopped by Chimay on our way to France, and it was kind of what we expected. It was very, very commercial, with kind of a sterile feeling. They only had four beers to try, and they're the same type you can get anywhere in Brussels. The food was pretty good, the typical, heavy, stick-to-your-ribs Belgian fare. We didn't have time to take the museum tour. The service was not horrible for Belgium, meaning the people were polite, but they charged us for several items we didn't order. This is a nice little stopover if it's kind of on your way to something else, but I would definitely not make a special trip for it unless you happen to be a huge Chimay fan. read more

I drove to Chimay on a trip from Brussels to Paris hoping to find a quaint little village where Chimay was brewed by Monks so that I might sit for a spell and reflect a bit. While the restaurant was filled to the brim none of the 8 rooms were taken, nor was anyone taking the Chimay Experience tour. Maybe it was my timing, but it was the weekend. (?) The room was nice, but so rarely used that a few lights didn't work - same for the towel warmer. I had already switched rooms once so I didn't bother the staff. Some of the staff gave me the feel they would rather not be there working. I was really hoping for that magic experience both at the hotel and restaurant, but also just from being in Chimay, but left a bit underwhelmed; the food at the restaurant was not special at all (I ordered several items). 4 stars because I knew what to expect. They have only seven rooms so there is not a dedicated hotel staff but they serve the restaurant too and no night desk. That being said the rooms are very new clean and have Chimay stocked mini bar. It's a secluded quiet stay in the Belgian country side. The Abbey is very close, beautiful trails through the woods. The restaurant was amazing, had a steak in the Abbeys cheese sauce. If my American countrymen will not expect snap too service it's a great quiet place for Biere and cheese. read more

Chimay. Wonderful place Chimay Lovers, however in the years this restaurant never made any change, still the same proposals. The staff is extremely nice and the price is honest at the end. I would suggest the fish, both salmon or the shrimps are very good, plus Chimay and frites of course. read more
