A lovely meal and an answered prayer! We were driving through the area late on a Wednesday night…read moreand couldn't find anywhere open for dinner. Google pointed us this way, and after a somewhat terrifying detour across several back roads in the dark, we turned the corner to see the friendly lights of L'Auberge de Pérol. Before we could even walk up to the door, la madame de la maison had rushed outside to greet us and ask if we were hungry. (We were!)
Roger and his sweet pup Safini (not sure of the spelling) waited on us hand and paw. We had the full menu du jour, with charcuterie, veal with an excellent cream sauce and frites, a cheese plate with local Bleu, and a sampling of desserts. It was simple, humble food, obviously prepared with love and skill. The house baked bread was a particular treat! We paired everything with a bottle of local table wine that Roger recommended.
We felt so very welcome that we were sad to leave, but we will always remember this as one of the most wonderful experiences we had in France.
