Robust country cooking with a contemporary twist this establishment boasts recipes from the entire South of France. Including those typically found in Gascony and Aquitaine. Patrons must learn to leave their shyness at home as the seating is tight, intimate and made to accommodate as many patrons as Humanly possible. After spending 3 days in Cannes for Cannes Lions and eating food that was really just embarrassing, we made our way to St. Tropez. St. Tropez was such a refreshing change from the glamour & glitz of Cannes. We spent an hour and a half just walking around taking it all in. Then we applied the Europe Rule: only eat at restaurants where it's all locals. We initially wanted to eat at G; however in our excitement we lost track of time and the kitchen closed as we got there too late. Next door however was Caprice des Deux, and it was also full of locals. We rolled the dice. Everything we ate was incredible. Started with the spinach salad with parmesan and fresh sliced truffles. Next we had the tuna steak & the sea bass; both were delicious & cooked perfectly. Even though we were full we had to try the desert as everything was so good. We settled on the chocolate cake which was perfect. We met the chef (the owner) and expressed our gratitude & admiration for his work. He explained that he made EVERYTHING from scratch, and that he operates the restaurant with his wife (bartender) and son (server). It was amazing to see his passion and finally eat some great food! One of St Tropez's best mid price restaurants, Au Caprice des Deux is small up-market bistro tucked away in the heart of the old quarter - you'll probably need a street map to find it first time around. With tables inside and outside (in the summer) the best choices inside are in the section to the left of the small bar as you enter, or better still at one of the outside tables where you can watch the world strolling by. The menu is limited, with fixed price two course or three course options, and with typical cost including wine, water etc. of around EUR80 per person... but the food is excellent and much better than many of the more expensive restaurants in town. read more

Four of us arrived at 20h30 without reservations and the restaurant accommodated us. We could not be seated outside of course, but had the air conditioned room downstairs to ourselves. What a treat!
