We are so lucky to have found The Abbey at Westminster Place. While some may say it is too pricy or only consider price when looking that the care is all the same. THAT IS SO FAR FROM WHAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED PREVIOUSLY!!! The Abbey is worth every penny! So far, I visit my father with a smile each day rather than worrying what "problem" or lack of care I would discover. The Abbey follows follow protocols, are professional and compassionate, are willing to work with family members to address requests or concerns, have safety procedures in place to ensure your loved ones safety, kind staff who truly enjoy working there (that is hard to find), and most of all acknowledges when the ball was dropped and willing to make changes when necessary. Tameka (Wellness Director) truly listens to your concerns and requests and creates a care plan to best assist your loved one. If you a concern, she is quick to investigate and get back to you. Rukayat (AL Director) is truly compassionate and is so kind during her assessment of your loved one. While she needs to do an assessment to recommend the best fit for your loved one, she does NOT demoralize your loved one! Jill and Norma (Activities Directors) put together a wonderful calendar of events that my father truly enjoys! Raquel (Move In Coordinator) assisted me throughout the move in process and followed through after to make sure everything needed was completed. Ashley (front desk receptionist) allows greets me with a smile and ready to answer my questions and get me answers as I learn the ropes. No place is perfect but The Abbey checks so many boxes which were not provided at our previous location. Most of all, both my father and I enjoy just being part of this community! The level of activities and healthy yummy food here at The Abbey is amazing!!! Each activity I have been to, I see the staff engaging with the residents and the staff leading the activity excited to be there and offer this for the residents! My dad's bubbly spirit has returned after moving to The Abbey! The care staff whom I have seen are ready to help you and point you in the right direction if they cannot. They truly enjoy their job and helping their residents! The administration attend many events and know the residents. The are professional and polite. Sadly many assisted living and memory care facilities take advantage of the elderly who are the most vulnerable and silence their voice or twist events and then blame on the residents lack of memory! Remember most of all, no location is perfect but what I have seen in these past weeks, The Abbey at Westminster Place is BY FAR superior and I look forward to attending the activities which truly occur when they are stated and well attended. Selecting The Abbey at Westminster in Houston was a wonderful choice for me. Although you may not be in this area, look at the description of this place for comparison wherever u are. There are several layouts here. I chose one bedroom with 1 & 1/2 baths. Closet is huge. Living area while not what I used to have is lovely and ample. Food that is always an issue is wonderful. There are choices for all meals, substitutions are available, special dietary needs are accommodated and Chef will work with anyone. T he only drawback is that you are likely to gain a bit of weight mostly because the desserts are fantastic. One of the things that mattered to me was how to maintain my physical shape at my age. The exercise choices are unbelievable and will suit whatever you need. There is also Hydrotherapy included in the monthly rent. It's rare to have it and helps me so much. You will have to look up what it is. The moving in process has been as good as it can be. Staff have been so accommodating in this very difficult process. Also, must mention that the other residents here have been kind and welcoming. They all seem to relate to how hard it is to make such an enormous change in these later years. Tarrytowne was the second location I looked at and when I walked in the front door, I knew this was it. I call it a cruise ship on land. Beautiful dining hall, well kept grounds, wonderful apartments that are cleaned once a week and paper products are included, along with utilities, and if you want, basic cable! I felt obligated to visit the third location. I checked in for my appointment and took a 10 minute tour and thanked the representative for their time. I immediately went back to Tarrytowne and got the paperwork rolling! We made the deal with my mom to give Tarrytowne a try for 6 months and after that if she wanted to move back to her home of 30 years she could, albeit with modifications. After 3 months she made the decision to sell her home and stay at Tarrytowne. We have all been ecstatic. I just made another visit following Harvey to help my mom clear out her home. I miss the folks there already! The staff pulls triple duty with smiles and understanding. I thank you all!

As the family we have been trying to coordinate with multiple facilities and get care for our loved one. Today we attempted to begin moving the stuff from her apartment (and cannot find the keys to our loved one's vehicle). Charlotte has told us that we have to move the stuff out by 4/22 and wanted her final payment. FURHTER, Charlotte had been allowing a person WHO IS NOT RELATED TO OUR FAMILY to move possessions out of our loved one's apartment WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION. Upon our arrival today Charlotte called the police on us and refused to allow us to finish the move (which was on her timeline) and said that we cannot move the property without a signed Power of Attorney. AGAIN, Charlotte has been allowing an unrelated person to gain access and take items out of our loved one's apartment but will not allow LISTED FAMILY to access said apartment to finish moving our loved one's belongings. She also cursed us out and told us that another family member that he should have visited more- that family member lives out of state. She is unprofessional. The staff is unprofessional. Our loved one wanted to move out BECAUSE she said Charlotte was stealing from us. I have also reported them for elderly abuse.

Our patient was rushed to the hospital with severe rectal ulcers that burst from lack of hygiene and care. Often allowed to lay in soiled linens for hours. Food was terrible, cold, and requests ignored. Only got PT a few days a week (in place of daily) and refusal to get patient out of bed. AWFUL. A few of the staff are OK. It's evil to claim this place is faith based.

What I did not realize was that skilled nursing and rehab are housed within the same facility, and the majority of patients are fragile elderly who actually live there full time. Most do not ever leave their beds, let alone their rooms. I felt completely alone--no one to talk to and the few wretched "activities" poorly organized, staffed and attended. The facility is indeed attractive and well maintained with pleasant common areas and dining room (90% empty at meal times). My room was very nice, with two large windows that overlooked greenery. The food was decent and occasionally quite good. With the exception of an excellent PT staff, the quality of care was sub-par and I fear the same as almost all these places. I did, however, expect more. When admitted I was not greeted by admissions staff or given any indication how the facility was run. It was several days before PT was initiated. The nursing staff consists of one nurse on duty at any one time for half a floor. The number of aides varies depending on how many patients are filling rooms. At the worst of times there was only one per half floor, approximately 30 rooms. It was not unusual to wait an hour for help out of bed. As soon as I was well enough to start doing things for myself, I was completely ignored-- bed unmade unless I made it myself, sheets not changed. When asking a medical question of a nurse I often got the reply, "I don't know; I'm only a nurse". One nurse was green as grass, another freely admitted she wished she wasn't there and knew she was treating her patients accordingly. Nurses and aides would talk on their personal cell phones or listen to broadcasts on them while working. The "doctor" was a medical professional who made rounds once a week with a perfunctory, "So how are we doing today?". The nurse practitioner visited twice a week and was on call the other times. Any of my queries had to go through her. While she was empathetic I found it hard to put faith in her diagnoses. There were mistakes made with medications. Instructions for cleaning wounds were not followed. My blood pressure was running high for a month before I figured out I was not being given my blood pressure medication. Worst of all was being woken up at 5 AM to have my vitals checked "to make sure you are not dead", to be followed shortly thereafter by an aide turning the lights full on to empty wastebaskets before her shift ended. Meals brought to the room were at 7:30, 11:30 and 4:30 and almost always cold. You were expected to be in bed at 8PM so the carousing in the common areas could begin--laughing and talking among the aides and nurses with complete disregard for sleeping patients. I also had the misfortune of being right above the generator. When that kicked in (at the slightest flicker of power) the noise was horrific. In conclusion I will repeat that PT, although only one hour a day Monday-Friday, was stellar, with the PT staff actually helping beyond their jobs (to get the tv fixed, the heater fixed, socks that fit, etc.). They put together the walker I ordered and altogether helped me get out of the Buckingham as soon as was possible!

This review is for the skilled nursing facility. Nonexistent communication, multiple instances…read moreof missed medications, staff lacking empathy, left in bed over night for 13+ hours (on many occasions). I was not the patient, but am a family member of the patient. The food appeared to be ok - lots of variety, lots of heavy, fatty foods though. As bad as our experience was I feel this place is probably still in the upper 25% of "care" (I use that word ironically). Scary thought for what the others are like.
