Our experience with the "institutional" type facilities was horrific; they focus their care on putting out "fires of fits" and less on a holistic care approach. Anyone familiar with the disease progression evident with Dementia and Alzheimer's understands there is no standard "glide path" of decent so there are as many states of debilitation as there are people in the facility. The institutional facilities work with the worst and leave the others to fend for themselves. After constant research we found a new model of care: that done in a home environment, in a residential neighborhood. Kelley's Family Care Home quickly rose to the top of our list and we felt fortunate to be one of the "charter" families to place our loved one. Grams quickly adjusted and the care offered was absolutely outstanding. From the cleanliness of the home to the home cooked meals and the caring employees, we knew we were in the right place. We can not say enough good about Kelley--her knowledge as a nurse and compassion as a caregiver is unmatched and a rare find indeed. Do not waste another minute searching if you are considering a loving home for your dear family member; give Kelley's Family Care Home a call now.

My mother has Alzheimer's disease and we want to transport her from her home in Southern Pines to where we live here in Raleigh. I immediately thought of Spring Arbor as the place for her to go. My mother-in-law got such great treatment and loving care and that's what I want my mother to receive. It's hard enough making that hard decision to place her in a facility. I just want her to go to a place that I know will care for her the same way that I would.

My family had experience with three different facilities and the care, concern, and communication that I saw from spring arbor staff was top notch. The facilities are clean and the staff is incredibly professional. My grandmother recently passed and the staff went to extraordinary measures to provide her comfort and showed such generosity of time and spirit to my family in a very difficult time. For over $6,000 a month, you would expect a certain standard of service they claim to provide--but that could not be further from reality. My mom entered with dementia that was still mild; she was independent and did not need memory care. We paid for a room, cleaning service, and medication dispensing. Yet her room was consistently dark, dingy, and NEVER cleaned. The entire facility often smelled of urine. After repeated complaints about the filth, nothing changed--I eventually bought my own supplies and cleaned her room and bathroom myself. Even worse, as my mom's dementia progressed, the staff NEVER communicated with us about her episodes or what was happening. How can a facility responsible for people's loved ones fail to notify families about their care and wellbeing? For the cost charged and the level of neglect received, this facility is unacceptable. DO NOT send your loved ones here.

The building is beautiful and the food is quite good if that is all you care about. However the dining room manager regularly belittles the clients and even yells at them if they step out of line. The final straw for me was the need to go to the ED. This was because they keep the halls so hot I developed heat exhaustion while going back and forth to the laundry room. I was accosted the week before leaving (I had planned to give thirty days notice but forced to do otherwise) by the sales manager in the most unprofessional manner because I owed $200.00 for the month. Trust me this was not a lot of money. This person came blasting through my apartment door with at least one gentleman (I use this term loosely) and she was extremely belligerent and unprofessional. Rather than asking me or inviting me to meet with her in the office for a discussion it was a full on onslaught of my character and left me emotionally distraught. Two comments just made me shake my head as I was referred to as a free loader and then questioned how I could be fully disabled and drive. This in my opinion not only demonstrates her ignorance of disabilities but in some ways potential discrimination. At a minimum very low tolerance for folks who may be functioning at a slower pace. This is prevalent throughout. There are some wonderful employees that I enjoyed and I will miss them, but I believe my walker and I will find a much better fit elsewhere. Such a shame I was developing some nice friendships.

Just a couple of days before that I had mentioned to C.B. in passing that Sunday marked our first wedding anniversary. As you know, we were married right here in the dining room a year ago. We will never forget C.B.'s wonderful food and service at our reception that day. Fast forward one year later to this Sunday evening: food server Mary Saseen asked us at lunch-time to be at a certain dining room table at 3:30 pm. We knew that something was up so we indeed arrived on time. Lo and behold, Mary, assisted by Imani Kelly and Jamaul Bible, brought forward a wonderful round wedding anniversary cake with three candles. She got the crowd to say "Happy Anniversary" as June blew out the candles. It was a wonderful cake (and wonderful prime rib) and we had a wonderful time! I pray for C.B. and his staff every day, asking God to grant them the gifts of "helps", the gift of patience, and the gift of love. God granted all three prayers last Sunday night. June and I would like to thank them from the bottom of our hearts. May they all have one blessed day after another!
