I came across Atomic Allure as a Groupon and have fallen in love so much so I even go sometimes without a deal. Don't let appearances fool you. The exterior is not that appealing but once you get inside you will love it. It has a open and welcoming atmosphere. The instructors are great. They really pay attention to you and help you learn the craft, they are so good at what they do, it can be a little intimidating, but once you get settled in class they make you feel right at home. This is my favorite pole studio in the Bay Area. I'm relatively new to pole- I've been on and off for a little over a year now and only recently began inverting. I started at Studio Botan in SF but it got too expensive for me so I tried Phoenix in Berkeley and I wasn't into most of the instructors there except for one. So I gave atomic allure another shot. The first time I was at atomic months ago, was for a pole fit class and it wasn't what I expected so I didn't go back for awhile. Other studios have weird class structuring- like at Botan they do Pole 101 and you have to "graduate" to move on to Pole 102 which took forever for me because I don't enjoy spins as much as I enjoy tricks and inversions-- I was bored with 101 but not skilled enough for 102. Atomic allure has classes for all levels and they will challenge you and the instructors are willing to help you (well, most of them. Some aren't so helpful). They have classes just for inversions, just for tricks, just for choreography. It's nice that you don't have to graduate from one to the other to learn different facets of pole. Atomic allure like many other pole studios is extremely cliquey. You're either In the cool crowd or you're not. I'm pretty quiet in class and talk to a couple people around me but everyone else there knows each other, have lots of inside jokes, and lots of girls who just want to look cool in front of the other girls by acting silly with the instructors. Sometimes it even slows class down a little, but it doesn't bother me too much. At Other studios I've been to, the instructors take the time to learn your name and make you feel welcome. Botan does ice breakers for new students so it's nice to get to know everyone off the bat. I'm indifferent to the lack of intimacy at Atomic- so long as I can still learn some new stuff, I'm happy. But I admit it would be nice if the instructors treated all the students with equal attention and respect. I haven't noticed any men partaking in the classes which I'm not used to seeing. The other pole studios welcome men, trans, and women so this is the first time I've never had men in class with me. I took contortion classes at Phoenix and loved it but when I took Sexi Flexi at Atomic, it felt more like a regular yoga class without the exercised breathing. I didn't find it to be too challenging. Disclaimer: I'm super flexible, inherently, so I think most people benefit from this class. Cassidy is super sweet and I will probably take this again. I'm just saying it's definitely geared towards girls who can't do splits yet and I already can. The poles are not in great shape. They let the students wear rings on their fingers when they practice so all of the poles are scratched and scuffed so a lot of them don't have very good grip. Make sure you bring some I-tac or chalk!! The poles are also not mounted to the ceiling-- it's using spring tension. They are X-poles you can buy for your home- they aren't like studio quality ones. Overall though I like this studio and will continue to come here and quietly learn tricks in the corner of the studio. Kelli is my favorite instructor by far. She's very kind, non judgmental, and super helpful when you're struggling to nail a move. read more

This review is long overdue. I have been coming here for almost six months and absolutely love. I wish I got my start here because the environment is so diverse and encouraging! It's not intimidating at all. The teachers really come around to everbody(no favortism!) and are aproachable! The space is huge with tons of poles, so you never have to share. I have been poling for almost 3yrs and have learned and felt empowered enough to nail tricks I've been trying to get for years! I came from a pole setting in Berkeley that was the complete opposite, so I felt quite refreshed! THEY NEVER TELL YOU CAN'T do something and there are pads that can be placed on the ground for safety!!!!! . . Don't think about getting your start anywhere else in the eastbay! We were stood up!!! My friend invited me to join her at this Workshop it sounded like fun and I bought my ticket. I received a confirmation which I have attached a picture of shows the Oakland location. We arrived very excited only to find out that somehow we were supposed to end up at some sort of Newark location that we had no knowledge of. The calendar which I have attached a picture of does not state Newark which is what the receptionist said it should say. At that point it was myself and three other people. We all had the same problem the reception made some calls then apologize for the inconvenience and she told us that the instructor only had two people show up in Newark and that she would be on her way here to Oakland. We knew that could take about 30 to an hour depending on traffic and we were okay with waiting. In about 30 minutes we were asked to go into a room and start warming up. The receptionist turned on the radio for us and gave us all mats. By then there was about 10 of us there. Another 20 minutes or so passed by and the receptionist comes into the room and tells us the instructor will not be coming that she had misunderstood. Of course we were all quite upset and we got her to agree to refund us the class and for our inconvenience of time wasted and travel expenses to also give us one free class in exchange. She agreed to do that for all of us but later we learned her manager Donna did not back her up. Donna blamed us for showing up at the wrong location even though they failed to send us the right information how can 10 people be wrong that doesn't make any sense I have attached screenshots of the email I received from her an email I sent and an email my friend sent. In conclusion we got stood up and then blamed for it and all we got in return was our money back for a class we were stood up for. Please see the images i attached. I love this place. I started 11 months ago and I feel like family. There are so many wonderful instructors. My favorite instructor is Amerillis. I am sad to see her go but happy to see her grow. Donna the owner is very talented and sweet. I recommend this studio for anyone who is interested in learning new dance techniques. This place has potential, but I'm afraid the "popularity" of the place (due to its affordability and frequent "deals") is no deal if you can't even squeeze into a class. Pros + Affordable (Usually has groupon and living social deals quite often!) + Fun Instructors (Usually had a fun time with the group too!) + Different class options for different levels Cons - PACKED classes (I have to sign up a month ahead? I took my first intro to pole class back in June. My friend and I both purchased the Living Social deal which I'm glad we did otherwise I would have never found out about this place. My friend and I definitly needed some liquid courage before stepping into our first class and being in downtown provided plenty of options for that. The environment in the class with Donna was relaxed but upbeat and fun. I think of myself as a super awkward person while trying to attempt to be sexy. Being that it was the first class for all of the women there made much of us at ease when we made an ass of ourselves falling down the pole (gracefully). Haha. We cheered eachother on whether we got the moves or not. FYI you WILL get super sore from this class. I have a bad shoulder from an old injury and have since shyed away from the strictly pole classes since that first class but I have been taking their Booty Poppin Basics and Sexi Flexi (which I LOVE) classes with Jessica who is also great. She makes you feel like its not even working out but your still sweating up a storm and having fun. I am definitly gonna start doing the pole fit soon to ease my way back to the pole. The more classes I take the more inspiration I get from these girls to be better. I am almost done with my Living Social deal and I am ready to purchase 10 more classes and possibly some shoes so I can really be hardcore with some pole skills. I am contsantly telling women about it so they can try it out. As far as the area, people who don't appreciate Oakland and the many treasures you find here, can get a little freaked out. I've gone to a few of the classes on my own and have never felt unsafe here. The new location always has parking in front of the building. I often take BART here which is only a couple blocks away. Also the online class schedule makes signing up for classes so easy. Even if your waitlisted still come because they tend to have way more people that sign up for a class and then punk out. It really doesn't matter your age, size, ethnicity, etc...you have to try it out because its a very liberating and confidence building experience! read more

This place is great! It's lead by instructors who are bubbly, helpful, and just great fun people to be around! I had my first class tonight with Jessica and with her instructor-in-training Keli. I think my favorite part about the class was that right after they taught a move you had time to practice on your own (while under the watchful eye of your instructor) and have fun while at the same time cementing what you just learned. I had to admit that I was self conscious about slapping on a pair of shorts and looking more like a newborn deer than a sexy mama as I attempted my moves for the first time. But the atmosphere is so positive! Not just the instructors, but the other students there rooting you on when you land a move. It's great to be in a positive environment filled with other ladies of all shapes and sizes rooting each other on. I'm now convinced this is going to be the new exercise I needed to shake up my routine and start toning up. I'll definitely be returning after my ten class pass runs out and getting the unlimited monthly membership. Oh, and did I mention their prices are pretty damn affordable compared to a lot of pole dancing classes in the Bay Area? Another reason I'm going to keep coming back. I love it here! No matter how advance or basic your dancing skills may be, you will feel comfortable here. There are quite a few classes and a variety of skill levels at each one. It's also a very comfortable place just in general where you don't have to be self conscious about your body. I've only seen women in there so you're free to be... well, to be free lol. The ladies that run the place are very nice and outgoing as well. The classes are fun and a great work out. And it's not only pole classes. They also have core and dancing classes. The classes are great!! You feel energized and get a GREAT workout (which you WILL feel the next day:)) while having fun and meeting new people. Its best to wear what you feel most confident in to the class because it will help you with confidence in the moves but make sure you have some skin exposed, thighs etc...because it will help you grip the pole for certain moves. The instructors are sweet and willing to help you if you can't quite get the form down. I was so excited after my first class I just wanted to practice what I learned but no pole at home..lol. The instructors are professional and encouraging to the newbies. There are a good amount of poles available to use and they are purchasing some more freestanding poles, which would make the larger classes even better. And there are different class sizes 1 on 1, 9, 11 and 17 max occupancy, which is cool to accommodate different comfort levels. You do a good stretch before you start which incorporates some yoga and basic stretching techniques which is great to get the muscles and bones ready for some fun!! You can preregister for your classes on-line at any time, which is a great help for my busy, chaotic life :D and it guarantees your spot in the class!! The website (www.atomicallure.org) gives you a brief explanation on the three different classes they offer, also at the class, we were told other classes would be added...SWEEEEEEETTT!!! I LOVE this class and it's exciting to see young women in an entrepreneurial venture!! I can't wait for my next class!! P.S. Don't wear rings, bracelets, lotion or perfume to class. The jewelry will mess with your grip and eventually will hurt you from the pressure you have to apply to the pole. The lotion and perfume make you lose your grip and mess up the poles. read more

Pole dancing is extremely hard even for those who are fit, so expect a little frustration after the first class, but once you learn the basics, it's very addictive! Purchased a living social coupon here for a private party for 6 after checking out the reviews on yelp and went for it. I bought it for a b-day party and there's a ton of cool places to eat right there in Oakland so it made for a great time after working up an appetite at the studio. Our instructor was awesome and talked anyone through the moves if there as a questions. She made it look so easy! I have a whole new new respect for this as a workout as well as those (ahem) in the profession. The choreographed dance at the end was awesome and the girls loved it. It was definitely a work out we were all feeling it as soon as we left. I can see why it's so popular! I only wish I lived closer so that I can take the classes. I can't say enough about this place. I came for a pole party and I just kept coming back. I've only been coming for a few months, but I'm just in love with the instructors and the classes (and workshops) that are offered here. Go to learn pole, to workout, to dance like a sexy vixen....learn how to twerk! There are really a lot of options even if you don't want to do pole specifically. You can now learn silks as well. It really is more of an alternative dance studio with an emphasis on pole. I love Atomic Allure , the atmosphere is very SEXY, positive and welcoming to all women. The ladies (Donna and Jessica) are very good at what they do, they have been very helpful in assisting me with improving my techniques. Also, since I've started going about two months agoI have really seen a change in my body especially in my abs and body strength overall. I've taken Intro to Pole, Red Light Special, Tease, BLAT, Pole Fit and B.P.B. There are very accurate descriptions of each class on their website. I love the vast variety of classes, there is literally something for everyone. I just had my first class at Atomic Allure and at first I was kinda scared that I would look retarded trying to learn how to dance properly on a pole versus my amateur moves, BUT as it turns out the girls that teach (Jessica, Donna, and Marinda) were very sexy, funny, and total sweethearts!!! They totally made us feel at ease and cracked jokes so that we felt more comfortable. They were very informative and helpful and only gave creative (gentle) criticism. When I first saw their living social deal I thought it seemed like a perfect way to try pole fit which so many of my friends had been telling me was an amazing workout. It took a while to get in because the classes were full, but once I did it was so worth the wait. I was so nervous about going to one of these classes, I'm not the most coordinated of people (and I didn't have a buddy to go to class with me). I was worried about joining a class that was already established and not knowing enough to keep up with the other students, but the instructors are WONDERFUL and I found it to be a really welcoming environment. Jessica and Donna are the instructors I've seen the most and they are so supportive and encouraging to all their students. I have taken about eight classes in this studio and everyday I leave sweaty and with a smile. Their pole fit classes are a great workout that trains muscles you never even thought you had. On top of it this, the studio is just far amazing! Such a safe space, fun diverse crowds of people and instructors that make you feel so comfortable!!!! I also went to a performance from them in Oakland and everyone without an exception looked like they genuinely love their body. And this atmosphere is also created in the classes. Before coming to atomic I was concerned that people would not be as respectful after all I didn't know much about pole. However, I was all wrong. It's all about you, you learning new tricks, you working out and at most you feeling comfortable and confident with your body! These ladies and their studio are absolutely incredible! read more

The instructors are great; the classes are fun and a tough workout; and the price (even without a groupon) is very affordable. So far we've taken a few classes from Kellie and Donna, who are both very nice and helpful. I am so glad that we tried this place out because it is so much fun.
