This is a great place for fish and ponds. The owner and staff seem genuinely interested in taking of your needs and will find a less expensive item if it will work as well. this place is sick. every. single. animal. is neglected and severely malnourished. cobwebs growing in tanks, snake with an open wound not being cleaned. every animal is surrounded by their own feces (i'm talking years or months worth of feces). every cage is so incredibly small, with no free space to roam. i haven't seen a single animal there that genuinely looks happy, or appears ok. this place needs shut down and their license needs revoked. i hope someday these animals all get what they deserve and a LOVING home with clean cages, and food. poor animals. read more

I visited the store yesterday. The experience has weighed heavily on my mind. How so few self-described "animal lovers" haven't mentioned it previously is beyond me. This establishment clearly doesn't have the resources to care for such a quantity of animals. The birds, in particular, have molted their feathers and are visibly stressed. I saw a tegu that was too large to turn around inside of its enclosure. The most heartbreaking of all was Nigel, the 22-year-old salmon-crested cockatoo. Their story is that his owner died a few years ago, and that's the reason he's pulled out all his feathers. While the story is probably true, being locked inside a small enclosure doesn't seem an appropriate space for a stressed bird to recover. Such a vibrant and social creature deserves better. A maturity worth of gawking by obnoxious children clearly isn't the answer. The place was filthy, and with no air-conditioning to speak of and the heat was overwhelming. Currently, the conditions in which these animals are being cared for isn't sufficient and is bordering on cruelty. I sincerely hope someone who cares will step in and do something. Selling fish is one thing. Using large felines for the purpose of "having them on display" (to quote your website) ostensibly to bring people into your store is shameful. It also doesn't appear from the photos that they have a very nice or natural habitat. read more

Great selection of Japanese koi and aquarium fish. Very friendly staff. Taking off one star because I feel sad for some of the animals in the store that deserve better living environments, i.e. snapping turtle and the large koi. (They're fun to see but, in my humble opinion, need bigger homes.) read more

Amazing pet store. Selection is great. They have many display aquariums to walk around and gaze at, An entire pond indoors. Among many other critters aswell. If you can't get something they will order it for you. Staff is busy all day handling customers on a personal level instead of just asking what do you want. They take care of their customers. If for any reason you have to wait on staff it's because of this reason, they do get pretty busy some days. The wait is worth it if so. They want to answer your questions and make sure your getting exactly what you want. Can't say enough about this place. read more

Awesome aquirium fish store. They have lions out back! A nice place to take your kids to visit the animals (they have a mongoose and some kind of lemur inside). It's kind of smelly, but thats to be expected from "zoo animals." As for the aquarium side, they have the best selection of african cichlids in the midwest, or at least used to when I frequented the place. They were also starting a larger saltwater collection, and they have a good selection of "community tank" fish. Some of the staff is very knowledgeable. Prices are pretty low too. Great place. The owner, Bill, really loves animals and wants to take the best care possible that he can and help others to do the same. He hires kids that know about what they are selling and many if not all of them keep aquariums or reptiles themselves. Fair prices and he can get most anything you ask for. They will accommodate hold requests so you can make sure your fish are eating and healthy before you take them home (but a quarantine is definitely recommended as with any new fish before you add them to a display environment with the rest of your fish- many come from the suppliers with diseases) read more

My Daughter and I went in here a few weeks back. I myself have been going in here for years. The staff constantly is changing. The owner Bill is very nice and quick to resolve any issues. My complaint is on the female that works there. She clearly does not know what she is doing and has no clue what the fish are My daughter and I are more knowledgeable on the correct species they have! The other staff you have to find to get help!! They are very slow and almost every employee tries to change your mind on what you are wanting to purchase. If I owned a business and my employees discouraged a sale I would terminate them asap zero tolerance! Like if I hired a contractor to build a wall and he built a floor...come on...When explanation was given on the female it was stated she only had started 3 months ago well in 3 months I would at least know what a feeder Guppy is dotcom! Almost all of my purchases on their fish mine have died the 1st and 2nd day. Yes he has an exchange policy 2 weeks on freshwater none on salt water. Walmart Guppies I still have (3 yrs) so it is not I that kill them! read more

Terrible service. Came in with my kids and we were ignored for the hour we were there I asked one of the employees, they had three, and she said she wanted to learn about saltwater tanks instead of make a sale. She said she was going to get someone to help. No one came finally the person that was asking about saltwater decided to get regular fish. The female employee finally decided that making a sale mattered to them she came to ask what we wanted. She was very negative toward making a sale and tried to talk me out of everything. I got a feeling of a bunch of people that bullshitted their way through the day. I have never been to a place of business where getting to the customer and making them happy. I am amazed that this business is able to survive being that a sale is not their priority. If you want fish I guess they're ok. As far as reptiles go they have no idea what they're doing. Bearded dragon babies missing limbs and fingers, an alligator in a tub of water half the length of it's body, fair amount of other reptiles kept on incorrect substrates, and many other issues. After talking to the man I assume is the owner, who obviously didn't understand that he was talking to someone with actual experience, I felt that he had little to no idea on how to actually give proper care to the reptiles he was keeping and had no idea how to communicate with someone who was just trying to help out with correct criticism. atlantis aquatic gardens in terre haute, indiana could be a really neat place if the owner cared about the animals as much as his staff does. reptiles are housed in extremely small environments that almost always need cleaning. the reptiles have to share what little lighting fixtures the owner can get away with using. this means some animals go for weeks at a time without proper care. when i asked the workers why this is, they tell me that their boss will not spend the money to care for or even feed the animals required amounts. his belief is that his job is to keep the animals alive to sell. this in theory would be ok short term, but some of the animals have been there for months if not years b/c they are overly priced. there is a nice selection of somewhat healthy fish but the owner goes to extreme measures to offer this, often over-medicating to the point where he kills entire tanks. the exotic animals on the premises are amazing but kept in equally filthy conditions. please if you do go here ask the owner bill heyman to better conditions and reduce animals cruelty and loss. read more
