She said that was fine to head over . Within a minute they called back and said don't bother coming , now that we know you have insurance we can't see you . I headed out for Advent health as they recommended and saw this urgent care on my way to Advent Health, I didn't realize it was the same place I called . When I walked in the receptionist clearly irritated called me by name that was on her caller ID and said I told you we can't see you . I think their explanation for refusing to treat me is absolutely ridiculous. Anyway I explained I thought that the urgent care I called was further towards Ponce Inlet . I didn't realize I walked into the same office I called . The ironic thing is I went to Advent Health that this urgent care very dismissively recommended and they also didn't take my health insurance but they were very glad to treat me . They said being self pay was not an issue even though they also knew I have health insurance. Thankfully they did a outstanding job with my care . I was disappointed that this closer urgent care in the Shores would not take my money but Advent Health wasn't to much further . I just have a hard time believing now that they couldn't see me when the other urgent care did with the exact circumstances. They should have just been honest we pick and chose who we want to treat !

They do not accept any government insurance such as Tricare. Ended up going across the bridgeread more

I went to this urgent care for a sore throat, aching lymph nodes and body ache. I waited in the…read moreroom for probably 30+ minutes while I listened to the doctor (nurse practitioner) catch up with a friend in her office that was directly across from the room I was put in. So unprofessional and unnecessary to have a patient that doesn't feel well waiting for that long while you catch up with a buddy. When she finally came in, she said my flu and Covid were negative then did an exam and said "oh wow, your throat is very inflamed, I think you have strep" then walked out and sent the nurse in to swab me for strep throat. I personally don't think the nurse swabbed the back of my throat well enough, and the test came back negative. Was told to gargle salt water and sent home. I just don't feel like I was taken care of well. Really rubbed me wrong having to hear her talk to a friend in her office while I sat there in pain and just wanting to get it over with and go home to bed. I recommend if you're going to make patients wait while you dillydally, maybe talk quieter so we're not aware you're blowing us off lol. Just upsetting and felt like I wasted my time, being sick sucks.

I noticed her excitement of enjoying what she does and making sure she does great. The IV she did on me was wonderful I didn't even feel it. In ICU, Nurse Jillian took great care of me you can tell Jillian really loves to make sure the patients assigned are doing great and offers amazing care to them. A young Black woman in her mid-20s reportedly presented to the ER in a sickle cell pain crisis and was met with what appeared to be condescension, patronizing language, and dismissal of her pain. Sickle cell disease is a genetic blood disorder that disproportionately affects African American patients and is well known in medicine for causing severe, excruciating pain crises due to blocked blood flow. These crises are considered medical emergencies and are commonly treated with timely opioid pain management when clinically indicated. In the video, the physician was seen talking down to her, due to her need for appropriate pain relief medication while citing vague statements like "studies show it's dangerous," despite the patient being in an emergency setting and clearly in distress. To many viewers like myself, this interaction reflected a lack of empathy, outdated or misapplied reasoning, and troubling bias, particularly toward a young Black woman advocating for herself. Regardless of intent, the encounter raised serious concerns about how pain, race, and chronic illness are handled in emergency medicine. Patients with sickle cell disease already face significant stigma and disbelief in healthcare settings, and situations like this only reinforce that fear. I hope Halifax Health takes these concerns seriously and prioritizes compassionate, evidence-based care for all patients.
