We really lucked out booking our hotel in Newquay - we judged it based on the gorgeous photos of…read morethe sea and it was reasonably priced. We found the place through booking.com but found it was a bit cheaper to book directly with the hotel. It was a really long drive from London but eventually we got there around 1. We didn't plan it that way but really lucked out how close it was to the town centre while residing off a quiet street with excellent views of the sea. Even if you don't have a car, you can easily take the train and its just a few minutes from the station. Yes it does feel a bit outdated with the old fashioned keys but we found it charming. We booked a town view room but luckily it also had a seaview as well. It was nice to have an indoor pool - there is a sauna but you will need to book what time you want to go as they will need to turn the heat on. We didn't get a chance to go down to the beach but you can get the key to the stairs from hotel reception. We were quite happy to sit in the lounge area outside. Breakfast starts around 8 - feels quite late for me as I'm used to staying at business hotels that start as early as 6:30 however most people here are on holiday. They pre-assign your table so check with the host when you walk in. First morning I had the full english and 2nd morning I had the eggs royale. Both really good and it comes with a full spread of breakfast cereals, fruit and bread. The view from the restaurant is amazing as you get panoramic views of the sea. For our 2nd night in Newquay, we wanted to have dinner at the hotel as it looked busy the night before and they run a deal - 2 steaks with chips and a bottle of wine for 30 pounds. You have to book before 7. The steak comes out on a sizzling plate and it was really good value for money. We didn't get the bottle of wine but were able to substitute it for other drinks at the bar. We were very happy with our stay at this hotel - will definitely be back when we come back to Cornwall!

At most places i spend very little time…read moreindoors and so i never want to spend any more money on my accommodation than what is absolutely necessary. So i was somewhat disappointed when a friend of mine told me that he had booked the Trebarwith Hotel at Newquay for our trip to Cornwall ... £50 a night per person ??? ... i have never spent so much. But my antagonism faded away from the moment we reached there one spring Saturday morning. The hotel is located right on top of a cliff (~100 feet high according to my estimate) overlooking a beach. The view was stunning (see the photographs that i will be uploading). They have a private staircase that allows the residents of the hotel to walk quickly down to the beach during low-tide. The stairs however are locked during high-tide ... then what had been a beach only a few hours before becomes unrecognisable from the vast blue ocean. We had taken a car from London and were pleased to see the huge parking lot. Even this was not sufficient for that weekend. When we returned from a trip at night the parking lot was full ... however the security guard was very helpful and somehow found us a slot close to the entrance. Trebarwith had a lot of facilities indoors ... swimming pool and spa and the like. They surely weren't up-to resort standards but were very good value for money. The dining hall and bar occupied most of the ground floor and had great views of the sea. So whether you are having breakfast or a late night drink ... the beauty of the cornish coast is always there for you to savour. The deck chairs that were placed in the area beyond the parking space right next to the cliff edge must surely be a big hit in summer for this very reason. This hotel wins on all counts ... decent facilities, awesome price and a great location ... what more do i want ?

My sister-in-law found this hotel through Condé Nast or the like and wanted to go enough that we…read moredecided on Cornwall instead of Wales for our weekend in the UK with her. The hotel is old and classic, but modernized enough to be thoroughly comfortable. We got a room facing the pitch and putt out front, complete with double bed and built in bunks through a travel website for the last weekend in August. The room was large and well-appointed with comfortable beds and crisp linens. The sink taps were separate for hot and cold, and the shower either ran borderline-burning hot or cold. There was very little air flow in the room unless the window was open. The hotel was classically decorated. I loved the "library" on the 1st floor with its book wallpaper, LEGO model of the hotel, and modern dog lounger. There's a large double stair case, with seating at each level, much needed since the elevator isn't terribly fast. The lounge area, which we were told used to be the ballroom, had a seating area at each window to enjoy the views. There was a patio outside with a glass windbreak for the same purpose. There's a spa area downstairs, and there's a booklet full of treatments available. We didn't try to book any, but we did enjoy the pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, and aromatherapy showers. While in the sauna, another guest informed us that they were booked for 48 hours solid anyway. Just having access to the aromatherapy showers was a lovely treat after a day of hiking in the coastal air. We ate our evening meals in the lounge area, not having seating at the Terrace (the casual restaurant), not having brought proper dress for the formal dining room, and enjoying the comfy chairs and couches. The full Terrace menu was available. The first night we quite enjoyed the mussels, rocket salad, fresh herbed mozzarella balls, the soup of the day, and the 5 Super Food salad (which changes daily, but always features 5 super foods, so you get the key nutrients in one sitting). Everything was tasty, especially that salad. The second evening, we split the vegetarian platter and the small version of the super food salad. We were quite full the second evening from enjoying cheese and crackers (which we bought at the Sainsbury's in town) while watching the sunset from one of the brick alcoves built into the seaside hill below the hotel. There about 2 dozen alcoves of brick or stone built along the side facing the beach or the coast, though only a couple had chairs. I would think they would've been quite crowded at a different point in the season, since they afforded such lovely views and provided just enough a windbreak. They're incredibly dog friendly and kid friendly. There were dogs and kids running around everywhere the whole weekend. Many folks brought their dogs and kids into the lounge area while they dined. Obviously, you go for the views, but the hotel was a lovely enough experience on its own to make it worth the trip.

However, the shower cannot keep one temperature - complaints among three rooms that my family members were in. That is ridiculous - its 2012 and we are in a developed country. At midnight the alarm on my clock went off. Again, the room maid should be checking that during every cleaning between guests to make sure that doesn't happen. I asked someone to come up in fix it. They sent someone up who hadn't touched one before and was new. After three or four minutes I asked him if he knew what he was doing and he said he didn't ......... I asked him to leave and just unplugged it. My cousin had her wedding here and it went perfectly. I would give it five stars on that.

SOLD!…read moreWe paid an extra £20 per night for a sea view and this is a must because the alternative view is out over a busy street with a club, a sports bar and many shops and restaurants. And anyway why wouldn't you want to look out over the beach and the beautiful sea and surfers of Cornwall? anyway the room was basic, quite small but for the money we paid it was good value. We saw the price list in reception and they were asking £125 per night for the room which there is no way in hell I would ever pay that for the standard of the room. The shower was super powerful and hot which is sometimes lacking in hotels. The staff were all very young - and I mean during our stay we didn't see a member of staff over 25. It wasn't a problem, just noticeable. The bar had a great cocktails menu but when we went to order there wasn't a trained member of staff able to make them. Great. The spa - Ohh La La was more of a beauty room than a spa, but the girl in charge was very nice. Myself and Adam Y both had hot stone massages (one included in the price one not) and both enjoyed them very much so. A big bonus to the hotel to have this 'spa' here. The pool was nice, the hot tub wasn't so hot and the steam room was despicable. Breakfast was included too so we took advantage of the cereal and toast (now why is it hotels never look into buying decent quality bread for toast? Sliced cheap bread is awful) as the hot food wasn't up to much good. The hotel was quiet for Easter week but the town wasn't. Newquay was busy and the beach had people learning to surf and families having picnics etc. Having walked all the way round the centre it seems like Hotel Victoria is the oldest hotel (and possible the nicest) in Newquay today, but I wouldn't stay here again.

It's clear hospitality comes naturally to them. The welcome is genuinely warm and it's a first impression that lasts. We stayed three nights and could have stayed three weeks. We had booked a standard room and they reached out to offer an upgrade to a sea view so we took the deal. Our room was lovely. The view was more sandy beach than sea but still delightful. We had tea/coffee - making facilities including biscuits and a dolce gusto coffee machine. The bath towels were just luxurious. Breakfast was really good, delicious porridge followed by kippers. On our last day I opted for a plain omelette with some of the Benedict sauce with their Eggs Benedict and it was delicious. We got a Chinese carry out one night and they laid a table for us in the dining room, provided water, plates and cutlery and did the washing up! Now that's hospitality for ya. We got a few drinks from their mini bar. It was real relaxing to have a few drinks and great craic with the bar staff after a long day touring. The chef made cake which we bought at the bar for a treat. Hope to return some day - the only two downsides were no lift and one beyond the control of our hosts - as the weather was not kind.
