There is so much good to say about Marion Lodge…read more The hostess is kind and friendly. She made us feel right at home by bringing us coffee and biscuits to our room after a long journey. Celine is professional, courteous and friendly. The decor here is GORGEOUS. There are antique pieces throughout the property. Amazing antique grandfather clock, beautiful chandeliers, wood carved credenzas. The craftsmanship is stunning. It makes you feel as though you are staying in a castle. Breakfast is delicious in a BEAUTIFUL dining room. The premises are clean, orderly and well kept. Breakfast was coffee or tea, eggs to your liking, bacon, sausage, toast and jam and soda bread. Very good. Our room was a tight squeeze but we were so comfortable it didn't matter. Bathroom was spotless. Towels were new and soft. Beds were fairly comfy. There is closet space for your stuff. The location is close to Galway Bay. We went downtown Galway from the guesthouse and it was an easy ten minute ride (but not during rush hour). Overall the place is quiet and off the beaten tourist path. If you want tourist advice Celine has be ever so helpful. The facilities are secure (appears to be safe neighborhood). There is parking right on the premises. I would certainly stay here again.

I'll start with the positives: the location was good, the room was nice and met our needs…read more Unfortunately that was it. After a really long day of driving from Belfast to Galway, we arrived at midnight. The first words out of our mouth upon waking up the hosts were "we're so sorry." Then we proceeded to ask about checking in. We knew it was way too late and very rude, but we also underestimated the drive. Since we didn't have service, we were unable to send word. The lady host (Celine?) was unprofessional and rude. She started going in on us about the time and badgered us for several minutes despite our constant "sorry" responses. The badgering continued the next morning as we checked out, she kept reminding how it was unacceptable. Keeping our mouths shut, we just kept apologizing. Then upon checking out, she required us to pay by cash, which meant we had to walk to the nearest ATM and take out money and be charged a fee, although we went through booking.com. Lastly, although I'm pretty sure breakfast is supposed to be included, she told us she couldn't provide for us because of our late arrival...even though she should have prepared as if we were coming, right?
