Then I found out it was an intermission since it was a long movie... odd.. in the US we just sit through the 3 hours lol they also have one heck of a snack bar option with tea and coffee in tea cups and stuff that you could bring into the theaters and there are little tables at your seats. So snazzy! Also you can reserve your seat online so you can guarantee a spot. American theaters need to step it up!

Feels old school to me, but maybe that's common here? The newer cinema in Arnhem, Pathe, does not have an intermission. So if you need a break during a film, perhaps consider seeing it here versus the new theater.

I have been to several of the movie theaters in Amsterdam and I was not too crazy over most of them but this one is just too cool. Studio/K is known for it cinema, a theater hall, bar/restaurant and a terrace which is put to great use in the summer months. I had the pleasure of enjoying their terrace with my man this summer when we were able to luck up on a sunny day. What makes this area so unique? It's going through gentrification. An area to inspire the creative artist meaning (creative class) as Florida Richard would quote it. Gentrification and urban gentrification refer to the changes that result when the rich and middle class people ("gentry") acquire property in low income and working class communities. I wrote my thesis on this subject, so I look forward to following up on the changes in this community. So far it appears gentrification has become a success in this dynamic community.

First, I want to state that I have very low standards for movie theaters because I'm used to places…read morewith sticky floors and popcorn everywhere. That being said all the Pathe theaters I have been to have been amazingly clean and awesome. This one is located in the Bijlmer Arena which some people will say is out of the way. It is actually the closest one to where I live and I love it because it isn't that crowded most days (however, there are mobs on weekends). When you enter you are greeted by a dozen or more check-in kiosks and it is easy to buy tickets. Once you get your ticket, you enter the snack section! This is by far the most extensive snack collection I have ever seen. There is popcorn, nachos, cookies, candy, ice cream, tea, coffee, etc. Side note - you Dutchies need to put BUTTER on your popcorn. This Dutch popcorn tastes..... so healthy... You can also get a parking discount at the register where you pay for snacks. The seats are comfortable and the floors are not sticky! One thing I wish is that the seating was steeper because Dutch people are really tall and if I'm unlucky, one will be sitting right in front of me... hence blocking my view. This is a disadvantage of being small in the land of giants. Anyway, all the Pathe theaters are very nice.

As a movie fan, my travels have taken me to a huge number of movie theaters. Paying money to be…read moreentertained is usually an experience that is meant to last for at least a couple hours. Same goes for movies. Most of the times, we go for movies on dates, or to escape the drudgery of daily life, or to change the way we think or feel about something. Going to a movie is so much more than just sitting in a chair. Unfortunately, Pathé Arena completely misses the reason for its existence. From being herded to the ticket machines to the sentry to the line at the concessions, everything here screams of an anti-experience. It's not something you come back from and talk about. Cleanliness is an issue, too, at least if you're not sitting at the nicer rows at the back. Movies seldom sell out these days at the secondary screens, and so if you happen to be unfortunate and get a ticket for the front row, be prepared to wrestle with cob webs and dirt on the seats. When your seats smell of dust, the popcorn doesn't make it any better of a movie experience. They have tried in the past to streamline the lines and the operations, but just seem incapable of handling the crowds. If I were a management consultant, I'd advise them with some innovative solutions, but until then Pathé Arena remains the only option for me to go watch Bollywood movies on the big screen. PS: Their IMAX screen is new and slightly better, but seriously, are movies even so good anymore that you would hike all the way to Arena to watch a movie there?
