I had a similar incident as described below. I specifically emailed and asked what the overnight parking would be, and was quoted $115, which could be waived with the purchase of 40 gallons of fuel. However, was quoted $7.96/gal. (I pay $3.95 at home) so the difference was about a wash and I opted to not buy fuel. $115 is not too unreasonable for overnight parking, however upon departing the next day, I was presented with a bill for $447...!!! Yes, $115 for parking, BUT ALSO a $30 Security Fee and a $20 Landing Fee, which they MIGHT be able to make a case for as pass-thru fees. But the WHOPPER was an additional $282 "Facility Fee"! Wait...what??? I didn't use the facility per se, I did pay to park overnight. If I hadn't emailed prior to arrival and been quoted $115, I would have written it off to my ignorance, but I did my part in asking ahead what to expect. When I argued my point, the Atlantic staff did exactly as the other person stated below...ARGUED that they had responded to my narrow question of "parking fees" accurately, and that they were just employees and couldn't adjust fees. Look, my email was not ambiguous, I wanted to know what it would cost me to land and park overnight. I was fully prepared to pay the $115, and would have even eaten the "extra" $30/$20 fees, but I really don't appreciate being "tricked" into the facility fee by conveniently opting to not give me ALL the costs. I have filed this as a complaint with AOPA, emailed them a copy of the receipt, and they have already responded to me with great interest in addressing this wanton gouging. I recognize there is a cost to operating an FBO on an airport, but $115 for a single engine aircraft is more than fair. $447 is outright LARCENY. This is a public airport, paid for with taxpayer dollars, so while some small use fees are acceptable, this result is NOT. BTW, this is not uncommon with Atlantic...I have had issues with exorbitant fees at other locations, but this one is over the top. read more
