So I selected a Rebound orthopod and met with the PA for the surgeon I selected. That initial meeting was thin on substance but generally satisfactory. A CT was ordered and completed 2 weeks ago. And then silence. I called Rebound 5 days ago requesting a call back and ... more silence. I have an excellent relationship with the Legacy system and its providers, a relationship that is based on communication and mutual respect. Perhaps the Legacy system sets too high a bar or perhaps Rebound is just a very large corporate ortho mill where patient communication is considered more trouble than it is worth.

One of the aspects I look for of any business where you need to make an appointment is how easy is…read moreit to make that appointment. I was dreading making an appointment with a specialist before calling sports medicine Oregon. To my surprise making the appointment online was incredibly easy and I was able to complete everything without any need to call and speak to anybody. That was awesome! I don't have a lot of time in my day to call and go through the endless back-and-forth of trying to find a date which works. Of course with any medical provider the equality of service is the most important piece. I felt as if the doctor took the time to understand my problem and to learn what activities I wanted to get back to that I wasn't able to. He suggested physical therapy exercises that I may not have tried before and quickly made a referral to get an MRI after I told him all of the different things I had tried before coming to see them. While no one wants to go see a doctor, if you do need to see a sports medicine doctor, this is the place to go.

Then I spent the rest of my day trying to rearrange my work schedule. Turns out after 5:00, I realized it would be impossible. The next morning I left a message that I couldn't make it. Today I received a bill for 50.00. No one called me back. No one tried to reschedule me. I had a surgery at this location in the past, plus I used the physical therapy there. The doctor I used retired. Maybe they are going downhill.

Sports Medicine Oregon is a specialty Sports clinic that deals with orthopedic issues with an…read moreemphasis on knee injuries as well as other joint problems. They're also team physicians for the Portland Timbers Football Club (in American parlance, that's a soccer team). I found this clinic via asking around on Yelp and I have not at all been disappointed by the medical service I received from Dr. Edelson. Without getting in to the gory details, I had long suffered from an old ankle injury and only enjoyed a limited use of my right ankle - a problem that kept me from running, jumping, or doing anything really physically active. When the pain overtook the numb immobility of my ankle, I decided to have a specialist look at it. While the OSM site claims that they deal with ankle problems the clinic is much more focused on knee issues, and Dr. Edelson was quick to note that, however upon examination he determined that he would be able to help fix my problem with a relatively simple outpatient procedure at the outpatient surgery clinic next door. My visits to Dr. Edelson, despite the long haul drive out to Tigard, were all good, and now that I'm able to visit him at the branch location in Jeld Wen field (15-20 mins closer to home) everything has been hunky dory. I will follow-up with a review of the good Dr. himself as it would take longer than this space to extoll the virtues of his skilled hand. This is more a review of the SMO clinic itself. My main complaint is the billing hassle with this clinic. Antiquated systems require that I either mail in my bill with a check or credit card written down (what is this the 1980's?) or call in to the office and face a barrage of automated phone menus, which if you call during the lunch our has some cryptic, confusing choices, all of which simply hang up on you. For such a small office they do a great job of making you feel like you're dealing with some ginormous, labyrinthian hospital system. How about getting some online payment options folks? Why do I have to deal with receiving a "your bill is late" snail mail letter when I'm more than happy to pay my bill online immediately (or by phone to someone who will actually ANSWER THE PHONE)? I have the funds right now but do you know how often I actually go to a post office to buy stamps, let alone mail letters? Obviously not fast enough to avoid a "you're late" letter.** Anyway, my rant aside, dealing with every other part of this clinic experience has been good. Great PC's, high-quality medical expertise, super nice, clean facilities with on-site x-ray and MRI... the works. Just bring your billing system into the 20th century (or better yet, the 21st) and we'd have a 5-star rave here. To sum up - OSM is probably one of the best options in PDX if you suffer from knee, orthopedic or joint issues. Just be prepared to spend a bunch of time on the phone or buy some stamps in advance if you want to be able to pay them for it. ________________________________ **I'm not really mad that I got the letter, it's my fault for not paying immediately, but it's their fault for making it so difficult for me to pay them. I've had a filled-out bill sitting on my desk for a week waiting for me to find time to go buy a stamp. I'm under 40 - snail mail is an artifact to me.

OHSU facilities are unfriendly--rather, downright hostile! The doctors are playing their 'petty…read moretyrant' games, denying care to anyone who is in pain, and treating everyone (I'm 50+ w/30years professional in IT) as if they were a meth/oxy addict--they are deliberately demonizing everyone that comes in pain--as if having pain was a moral failure! WTF ? ! They withhold pain relief, using the police tactic of 'pain compliance'--i.e. putting you in so much pain that you will comply with anything to relieve the torture. The UN says such withholding of pain medication violates human rights, the AMA says it violates their medical guidelines, yet doctors and nurses are using people pain against them, to harm them and their families, & to deny even basic relief to those in chronic pain. OHSU has policies that deliberately perpetuate the withholding of pain medication, so as to coerce people to comply with their criminalizing 'pain contract' OHSU condones, endorses, and sometimes insists upon keeping people in torturous pain, irrespective of their medical conditions and medical need. OSHU physicians are not 'doctors'--they don't "help" --they are just callous profiteers causing harm instead.
