Stayed here overnight during a recent trip to the UK. This is a wonderful B&B, just across the Avon from "downtown" Bath. If you are traveling by rail, they will pick you and drop you off at the train station.
Wolfgang and Josephine's home is gorgeous bathstone location with a beautiful garden--even in near-freezing weather! They are the epitome a great B&B hosts in their combination of efficiency, helpfulness, and knowledge of Bath. Our room, the Beckford, had a large bay window with a view towards Bath (and trees), with a comfy king bed and really exceptional bathroom as UK B&B's go. They had no problems accomodating our 10-year old DD, unlike the occasional B&B in the States.
I can't say enough about their breakfasts. They're simply amazing. One takes one's breakfast in a lovely enclosed porch and orders one's breakfast the evening before. The variety, freshness of ingredients, and heartiness of the breakfast fare are jaw-dropping (and filling too)!
Although it's "across the river" from the historic downtown, there are several ways to get into Bath proper by foot. We chose the footbridge to the west of downtown as we wanted to see the Royal Crescent first. The walk was no more than 20 minutes at a sauntering pace. As Bath is such an "accessible" size, Athole House's location is hardly an issue (and a few quid taxi ride from downtown if the time or energy gets away from you). read more
