The location of the hotel is excellent; it's about a mile outside of Bath's center and offers amazing views of the surrounding hilly region, and the walk to town is a beautiful stroll along the Kennet and Avon Canal (unless it's chilly and raining hard in which case the cab ride is short!). We took an $8 cab ride from the train station when we arrived in Bath. It is the superb service at this hotel that makes this five-star rating such an easy choice. Sue, Grant, and the other members of the staff were amazing. In particular, Sue went out of her way on several occasions to make our experience extraordinary. We first arrived at the hotel from London after a long day, and her graciousness and hospitality at that late hour made us feel completely at home right away. After learning our preferences, she made reservations for us at two wonderful restaurants; in general, her knowledge of the surrounding attractions, restaurants, and shops seemed almost encyclopedic. She is very, very good at what she does. Our room was relatively small and meticulously furnished. Details were attended to, and the view of the attached gardens was peaceful and beautiful. The hot water pressure wasn't great, but I'll live. I can't recommend this place more highly.

My…read morewife is a wizard at choosing perfect accommodations when we travel, so for our first trip to England, she scoured the internet for the perfect place for our two-day getaway to Bath. She could not have chosen a better spot! First, the place is perfectly located about a mile outside the center of town, so we could enjoy the brilliant views of the hills surrounding Bath from our window, yet still have easy access to town. We parked our car in the driveway (a major bonus in this densely populated area) and left it there during our entire stay. The location is quiet and secluded, but we didn't feel isolated or distant from town. We had easy access to everything we wanted to see and do in Bath within a 15-20 minute walk. Also, Tasburgh House is midway between Bath and Bathampton, so the two quaint pubs in the latter (the George and Bathampton Inn) were easily accessible, either from the road in front or from the tow path along the canal running in back of the House. Second, the place is gorgeous. The grounds are meticulously manicured in true English fashion, and the building has exactly the old-world charm that we Americans were looking for. Our room was comfortable, if a bit small for our US tastes, but the absolutely spectacular view and prime location made up for any small criticisms that we might have. And the breakfast! I'm a huge breakfast fan, and the simple "continental" breakfast was unique and delicious. I expected danishes and jam, but we got this scrumptious Bath granola, fresh fruit, local cheeses and meats, natural yogurt with mango purée, and coffee in a French press. Yum! When you think "quaint English inn," Tasburgh House is probably the picture you have in your head. Sue and her staff were so friendly and helpful, too. What a joy. Our time there was fantastic, and I would not hesitate to stay there again if ever we return to Bath. Highly recommended.

The room was lovely and spacious (we stayed in the Royal Gala room). The room and house was clean and quiet. All essentials were provided including hair dryer and fan. The dresser was stocked daily with teas, hot chocolate and biscuits. Breakfast was amazing. Ling had a menu of several different options which she prepared to order. Sadly we don't have any pictures because they were so appetizing we ate right away! In addition, toast, yogurt, cereal were available as well. French press coffee was made fresh for each couple, or tea as desired. The walk to town was a short 5-10 minutes and we appreciated the quiet neighborhood this bed and breakfast was located in. Ling even left us a box of chocolates, chocolate liquor shots and flowers with a thank you note / happy anniversary note on our last night. A real nice touch (see photo). We will definitely be referring our friends here and staying here in the future if we visit Bath again.

The hosts, a young couple, were both very cheery and friendly. They were helpful with the luggage, and made recommendations of things to see and do while in Bath. The room was on the top floor, and was a bit tight. There was little room to spread out for a two night stay. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was also tight. The flat screen TV required manually turning it on before controlling it with the remote, and that wasn't as easy as the hand note instructed. The kettle needed to be cleaned out. For the double room that we got, £85 GBP per night, which required a £50 GBP deposit, which you had to pay by credit card and pay £2 GBP fee to use your credit card. This was not my first choice to stay for two night in Bath.

Upon check in there was an envelope with my name on it in the hallway that had a few maps and a list of things to see as well as my key. Although I arrived early (12noon), I was able to check into my room which was nice as I got to refresh before going out. The rooms are painted a soft grey that made them feel warm and homey. My bed was comfortable and my bathroom an ample size with great towels. One of the innkeepers was kind enough to drag my heavy, large suitcase up the stairs and pack me a great breakfast (fruit, yogurt, muffin) for the road as I had an early tour in the morning and would miss the hour breakfast time they offer. Location is perfect, easy walking to the train station, sites and restaurants!

That was just the beginning of excellent, friendly service. Although I must admit, we are not 'fussy' travelers, all the small details of this eight room hotel made us very happy. I had pre-paid our room including a full breakfast. You can also purchase breakfast, continental for just under £5 or continental plus a hot option (full) for just under £10 (at the time of this review of course). Tim gave us info on the hotel, a map of town, information on how to get around and where attractions are placed. He is very friendly and easy to speak with. As a small hotel, the reception desk is not manned around the clock and a door key of given along with a room key. We arrived just before reception closed. If you know you will arrive after hours, the hotel will send you a code to access the door and your keys will be left at reception. The hotel offers tea and coffee in the afternoon in the breakfast room. Each guest room has a 'hot pot' and a selection of teas and instant coffees with more in the breakfast room if you need to restock. There are also a variety of free biscuits (the shortbread is wonderful) along with snacks to purchase through the honor bar. The honor bar also includes sodas, juices, beer and wine in two sizes (full size or single serve). Just keep track of what you take and tell reception at check-out. You'll find check lists on the sideboard to keep track. The staff seat you for breakfast. A pot of coffee and/or tea is brought to your table as requested, along with a basket of toast, or if you prefer, english muffin and scones. The sideboard includes a variety of jams, honey, cereals, yogurts and juices. The menu offers eggs, pancakes (listed as 'scotch pancakes'-see photo) bacon and the full English breakfast among others. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. When I asked for scrambled eggs and an English muffin (normally served on toast) it was a bit of a surprise to our English hosts, but they very gracefully acquiesced. The hotel has conservation measures in place. The waste basket in the room is for 'recycling only' while the basket in the bathroom is for 'trash'. You can also 'go green' meaning you reuse your towels and sheets and get a £3/day credit toward honor bar purchases. This saves water, and reduces the use of cleaning products. Love this option! The building itself is lovely. Wood paneling up the staircase if beautifully detailed. Crown molding, dressing table and seating areas in room, headboards and lighting. So many small, beautiful details. One item to note, there is no elevator in this building. Ground floor is reception and breakfast room (and kitchen). First floor up is four rooms with another four rooms on the second floor up. Be sure you can carry your luggage up the stairs when staying here. There is a bus stop very close to the hotel making it easy to get to and from the city center or take a half hour walk. On the way to town it's down hill, making the way back an up hill journey. If you drive to town, there is a car park near Victoria Park. At the hotel, you can pay to reserve a parking spot behind the hotel, or park on the street. We opted to park on street and were able to find spots very close. The hotel is located in a neighborhood with a few pubs, restaurants and a nearby pizza place within a 15 minute walk or less. Our check out was very early in the morning - before breakfast was served. We spoke w/Tim the morning before, settling up our honor bar. He sent us a receipt, via email, before the end of the day. This lovely bed and breakfast, far and away the most charming of our trip, made us want to forget the north of England and Scotland and stay in Bath, enjoying the beautiful city, but also the relaxing, welcoming and, well, beautiful Cranleigh house. The family who owns it is welcoming and affable, the food is delicious (just remember when they say pancakes, they really mean crepes), the showers hot and the rooms spectacular. The B & B is a bit out of the bustling down-town area. One could walk there in 1/2 an hour, but we drove into town and parked and walked from there. The bonus, of course, is that it is quiet and dark and easy to sleep, and more affordable than the B&Bs right in the middle of things. We definitely were happy with our decision. I already started planning our next trip back, and we will definitely stay longer next time!
