While amazing for them, I was bummed to…read morehear that my daughter's physical therapist, the fab Leida, was going to the Evanston location. We had the choice of staying with her or trying a new therapist named Marcy. My initial reaction was to go with Leida because spending an hour with her had become one of the highlights of my daughter's week. However, the more I thought about the dreaded Evanston traffic (especially at the time of our appointment- 5pm) I thought staying in Highland Park would make more sense. And so we decided to test out Marcy. It turns out my daughter enjoys spending time with Marcy just as much as she did with Leida. It probably didn't hurt that Marcy quickly picked up on her love of all things princesses and pulled out the princess puzzles, books, etc from day one. My daughter greets her with the biggest smile every week and can't wait to tell me about all the fun things they did together on the way home. And most importantly I've seen lots of great progress as I've watched her jump and climb higher (perhaps a bit too high) than she's ever been able to in the past. Based on the hour I spend waiting/working from the waiting room every week I don't think you can go wrong with any therapist here, but if you're looking for PT I highly recommend Marcy. And if Evanston makes more sense for you Leida is your gal!

The consultation recommended some additional 1:1 with a therapist..an amazing therapist but more on that later. Although not worried about my little buddy I also wasn't going to stick my head in the sand and ignore a potential problem so I quickly got on-board. Next step was my wife crying in the waiting room as our not yet 3 yo went in for his 1:1, full disclosure I wasn't there or would have been a blubbering mess!! Then my son starts talking about Ms. Meghan who I assume is a new teacher at pre-school..but then he starts asking about seeing her the day before a non-school day and I finally occurs to me to ask my lovely wife who Ms Meghan is??! Meghan is the amazing therapist referred to above (see you didn't have to wait too long!) that my son has grown to love seeing as much as he loves seeing his cat (and that's a lot!!). Of equal, ok of more importance is the development of his language skills. He has made great progress with Meghan's help and I have even less concerns that he will just as verbose as his mom and dad. Thank you Meghan and North Shire Pediatric!!

The lying and ineptitude was so appalling that I finally needed to have a conference call between the insurance company and speech therapy to resolve the fact that my insurance provider was never billed. For 6 months I was asked to pay for the whole bill. Why? Because my insurance provider was simply never billed. On a brighter note, the speech therapy was even worse. They want to have one on one sessions with your children without any parental oversight. Why? So they can bully your kid behind closed doors. Nice to your face, another thing behind closed doors.

They did not communicate about extra services added to her therapy. They did not offer a choice for receiving full time of services being billed. Their fees are also higher than comparable places, but adding the surprise "extras" without approval is in my view a real scam move. When I contacted their billing office to ask for a breakdown of their cost, I was meet with someone who was very defensive and ignored my request. A couple of phone calls later, I finally received an explanation of cost. From an ethical standpoint, it is very concerning how they charge. In my experience they showed me that they had a "don't ask, don't tell, just send the bill" attitude. If you go here, make sure you get a breakdown, IN WRITING, BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!

We also have started going back this fall (2022) for intermittent OT support as our son has gotten better, but still benefits from occasional sessions. Our son works with Ms Jillian who is a phenomenal OT. She is kind, funny, warm, and so creative! When she started working with our son, he was starting second grade as a non-writer (but on target with other skills). She quickly figured out he has weak fine motor skills (exacerbated by a previous wrist break at a trampoline park). Honestly, to see his progress over two years later is nothing short of incredible. She makes handwriting fun! Professionally I am actually a speech pathologist and I can tell this is a great private practice clinic. With respect to a previous review mentioning staffing concerns, I would like to share that this is happening everywhere right now (private practices, schools, hospitals, etc). Speech, OT, and PT are in high demand across the Chicagoland area and there are vacancies everywhere (due to shortages in the profession and Covid making those shortages worse). That being said I have not seen or heard of any staffing issues at Step Forward, from the parent perspective. We love it here!

I would advice to completely keep your children away from this place, especially when it comes to…read moretherapies. When we first started, we were happy with our therapy team. Then very quickly, within several months, everyone on our team starting to leave. Our son has Down syndrome so it's important to have him get all three therapies: OT, PT and speech at least once weekly. But we gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited until they filled in the spots. We waited months for a second session per week that was never met because they said their PT wasn't available and unable to fit us in. Well, I just saw that our son's PT was also working the preschool side of their business (which is not a good excuse for being unable to fit us in if they claim to be a therapy clinic). So on top of not having enough therapists for their therapy customers, they have them work the preschool side as well (our original PT had said they worked both, which I'm guessing is a large part of why he left). So this week, our son's "new" OT who had only been there weeks is leaving asap with no heads up with no replacement. This place is disorganized and unprofessional. I've had 2-3 separate people calling or texting me with the same scheduling issues or questions. There is no central manager, and management is non-existent at best. Billing is even worse. Then, because we felt we had to leave because they couldn't meet our son's needs (and this was the third time we were told to wait for a therapist replacement in less than a half year), they sent an email demanding remaining balance due within a week because we were "no longer clients!!" I've never been treated so poorly and unprofessionally by a clinical office ever in my life. That is not how billing should work because they haven't even finished filing claims for therapy services through our insurance. Plus, they never answered my questions on why billing amounts ranged so differently by even over a hundred dollars for the same services. I'm not an expert in billing, but their billing manager Jackie should be fired for treating families so poorly. I even tried to work out a payment system with them when our HSA funds each pay period (so the balance would be paid in a couple of months), to which she replied with a demand that full balance be paid immediately (in 2 days, no less) with full payment due immediately as soon as they process the insurance claims. I have a lot of medical issues, and I even delayed my insulin pump and diabetic supplies and stretch them further to make it a priority to pay their clinic. It's like they act like some loan shark mobster group or something in the way they demand payment. I've never seen a clinic act in such a way. And if it's due to desperation because they are so poorly managed (I don't know why else they would act this way), then that's even more reason to stay away. So if you are looking for a therapy clinic or even a preschool with consistent staff who treat their clients respectfully and professionally, my advice is to run away as fast as possible.

Last Monday November 25 I called at 8 AM to notify patient coordinator that my babies are sick and we have to cancel our 3 PM appointment. In an hour I received 2 reminders about our upcoming appointments, so I called again to make sure the care coordinator really cancelled my appointments. I was assured that she cancelled and these reminders I got are came automatically. When I asked Why I have to pay "non showing fee" the care coordinator named Des'Ree said I had to notify her 24 hours upfront. Ok, how I can predict all sickness which can happen with 14 months twins? I notified her 7 hours upfront as soon as possible. To say that I was angry is to say nothing. In October the same care coordinator charged me for 30 minutes sessions as a one hour session. So in that case I also didn't get any clarification. I want to say that with previous care coordinator we did not have any issues. She always greeted us compare to a new lady who never say any kind of greetings for me or for babies. I guess small kids deserve a little "care" .At the same day outstanding balances were removed from both accounts. One day later these "fees" appeared again on my babies accounts. I tried to contact with any manager of this facility, however nobody has responded yet.So sad that I have to write this review when I had so positive experience with our Amazing Doctors!

The others seem competent. One I would not refer to. It's the environment to consider. It's got a ton of equipment, which is good, but it's also very loud w all the PTs constantly having convos w each other across the room. That is both distracting and means to me that the PTs themselves seem distracted from your care. Front desk is meh on friendliness.. Here they stack multiple clients per appointment so even though you are not shoved off onto an assistant, it's not truly one on one if that's what you're looking for. You get left a lot on your own. Which is pretty typical for this type of trainer business model so not a pro or con tbh just something to be aware of. The environment is a bit sports pub trivia night/frat house. Lots of cross talking between therapists during your session. Lexi is the leader of many "let me guess" "my favorite movie/song is" loud convos w her coworkers and is hugely distracting as a client. If Adam the owner isn't there, it's 10x louder and more chaotic. They even had an impromptu wear a kerchief like your noona runway contest once. Huh??!! Overall what thar feels like from a healing perspective is that they are not always fully focused on you, and this work imo requires the PT to be watching and evaluating you and adjusting accordingly, not focused on having sports trivia and other convos w their coworkers. Saw one (only one) safety issue that crystallized it for me how environment can affect care. So it depends on what you're looking for in a PT place. Adam is extraordinary, I stayed because he is knowledgeable, intuitive and creative w his approach to your injury and he progressed me really well. He is a not just do 10 clamshells cuz thats what they taught us in school and call it a day kind of PT (and there are plenty of those elsewhere believe me) I personally though like a PT place with more hands on attention and a less frenetic environment. But am glad I found Adam despite the environment.
