A delightful and refreshing bistro in the heart of Hamburg. My boss had dined here in the summer and raved about Ateiler F. Naturally we decided to get dinner on a Tuesday night. We did walk in after 7. The host told us that they only had tables (which didn't look much like tables but instead bar high tops in the "butchery" looking area or the communal table seating in the main dining area. I had asked about one of the "themed booths" but the host told us that they were taken and for parties of four. Later on in the night though we saw a party of two eating in one of them, so that was disappointing. I asked my boss want a flambe was (it was listed under the traditional French items section), it sounded good, so I got that, the veggie lover side, and a French onion soup. The french onion soup was light. The sweet onions rounded out the salty from the cheese and broth. They served it with puff pastry instead of a bread in the broth. It was a nice twist, but still the best French onion I've had was in Paris. The flambe ended up being a thin flatbread in a round pizza shape with a generous even coating of bits of pizza and some onion. Though it wasn't expected, it was a really good light entree, and you can never go wrong with bacon! I saved half of it to take back to the hotel in order to finish my veggies sides and get dessert. The veggies were asparagus, rosemary potatoes and grilled tomatoes. Veggies were well seasoned and cooked to perfection. I also got a peach spritzer with seltzer water which balanced out the sweetness of the peach juice. I saved half the flambé in order to squeeze room for dessert. I indulged in the decadent smooth chocolate mousse. My boss loved her corn, soup, wine and dessert as well. It was a wonderful and affordable meal! I didn't get an entree but everything I got was under €7. Service was fine but could be a little better. I will definitely be back to Ateiler F when I return to Hamburg.

Someone, please explain to me why this restaurant is always booked. Where do I start... With the slow forgetful service or the tasteless overpriced food? Well, I will start with the drinks, the only positive part of our dining experience. Long drinks (gin/tonics) and wine that we ordered (Chardonnay & Sauvignon Blanc) were good. Then came the food Soups: pumpkin coconut was ok, the French onion did not have cheese and very few onions. The Cesar Salad was drowned in dressing, the poor croutons, small and store bought, struggled to maintain their crunchiness. Hot spareribs, BLT (with cheese extra ordered but did not come), the thinnest entrecôte steak you have ever seen, tasteless Mac 'n Cheese and muscles in a creamy cream cream sauce. All pretty much tasteless and unappetizing. So that's it. You won't catch me here again even if the food is paid for. Make your own decision, but consider yourself warned!!

Big chunks of tuna with flavourless unfrozen bread and SRIRACHA(!) sauce. Not worth €17,90 at all.

Not sure whether I want to cry or laugh! A friend of mine and I decided to give it a chance. The drinks took ages to come and where served with the starter. I thought the Tuna Tartar for €17,90 would do the trick and be rather palatable, but it was quite a DISAPPOINTMENT. The Tuna Tartar: I got a mix of medium-sized tuna chunks with a bit of a marinade and I must say the quality of the fish was okay. However the garnish and presentation was very disappointing. Believe it or not (as you can see on my photo) they really used the ordinary SRIRACHA SAUCE(!) for the Tatar. On top of that I got a side of bread that was obviously just unfrozen end of very poor quality. The Burger: I'll cut the long story short: in this day and age you have the right to order a burger cooked medium. Any restaurant that fails to consider this order and doesn't cook your burger medium is just a FAIL and everything but American. Pffft! Avoid this place at all cost!

Burger and mussel with a good white wine!

Burger was delicious, good location and interior. The waitress didn't ask how well we would like the patty.

After being told several times that someone would tell their colleague to come serve us. We can see the staff from here ignoring us, laissez-faire. And we saw the main host walk out. Update: Order finally taken after a good 30-40 minutes. We chose to order dessert with savory due to the slow service. And the dessert crepe showed up right away on the dirty table with no utensils. And then they walked off. The kid's crepe shows up without salad. We say something. They take it away and bring it back with salad. Then she finds a MAGGOT on it and can't eat anymore. I am so grossed out.

The interior is worth a visit alone. It's historical and high-ceilinged and has period-appropriate fixtures. At breakfast/brunch, it seems like the thing to get is the pastry tower. I didn't get that but found the food passable. But you're really there for the ambiance. The second time I came for lunch, I came in with a French friend and she was enchanted with the authentic French offerings on the menu. This restaurant is a gem in Hamburg.

Wonderful breakfast selection and delicious food!…read more On our first day in Hamburg, we wanted a hearty and delicious breakfast to start the day before a long day of sightseeing. We picked Cafe Paris, and we couldn't be happier with our choices. This French cafe has a long history and is hugely popular. We came in at 9 a.m., and the place was packed by 10 am. The interior decor is absolutely beautiful, with wonderful woodwork throughout. The breakfast selection is simple yet diverse, with breakfast themes ranging from French, English, Italian, and American. The stabdard menu comes in German, but an English version is available upon request. There are multiple sides, such as eggs, salad, yogurt, that you can add to complete your breakfast as well. For my breakfast, I chose the Madam Croque in the vegetarian option. It came with two slides of soft bread, with melted cheese, egg, and tomatoes in the middle. The portion was good-sized, and the sandwich was very delicious. I also added a small side of fruit salad. Others in our table had the French breakfast, which came with multiple bakery selection, yogurt, and jam. The American version came with the standard eggs, bacon, pancakes, and orange juice. Our bill for 5 came to around $125 Euros with small tips, which was very reasonable for the quality of the meal. The service was faster than other European restaurants we came across, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

The service started out great and deteriorated to unacceptable over the evening, so I would put that at a 3. When they served one of our party the wrong dessert, instead of apologizing and offering to serve the correct dessert, she said "the other dessert is basically the same, just black currant vs strawberry." what the heck?! we said, that was fine, that they could make up the mistake on our petit fors that we were getting to go (because we were too full). They gave us the petit fors to go, but did not include anything extra. We paid for accompany wine and no dessert wine was served. They did not offer coffee or any other options at the end of the meal. We have received expected service at other restaurants in Germany, so I don't understand. $511 euros for a dinner should get exceptional service. Boo to the Haerlin!
