In this, they failed completely. I provided them with extensive documentation going back over 20 years, establishing every cent and its rollovers. Despite this, Van Clief allowed me to get "hosed" on a technicality: most financial institutions do not keep detailed statements beyond 10 years. However, they do keep rollover documentation (amounts, funds, dates, and times), which creates a legal trail. Instead of working with the documentation I provided, they caved to the opposing party's demands because it was easier. Critically, they still get paid either way. Van Clief is quick to say, "We're an independent party, we follow the numbers." In my case, this was just plausible deniability. It felt like a classic case of "don't know, don't care, we still get our check." This lack of care became increasingly apparent when trying to finalize matters. and run-of-the-mill questions. Like many clients, I have a Will and Trust. When I asked them questions about this, it took over a week to get any kind of response. And when they finally did respond, it was buried in a ridiculous form of "legalese" that would make a 17th-century law clerk shake their head. In short: Arrogance. Don't know, don't care, as long as they get your money.

Did not see/review document downloads given the 1st week of January, providing important documents and all the easement language. This cost us dearly when engaging opposing counsel. 3. They never answered our day 1 question we would ask and ask every month "Can they do this"? 4. Proposed uninformed expensive losing strategies over and over. Litigation, a $10K+ a day arbitration, a 2 year delay strategy. 5. Represented an opposing counsel offer that never existed and got 2 more months out of us. 6. Then he fired us when we pushed back when it was clear there was no offer. We were in a really tough spot and needed their help but felt we were treated like an ATM which is one thing but the poor lawyering and accusations made our situation much worse. We ultimately received a partial refund and apology. We are happy to move on
