I don't like shady businesses in the neighborhood I grew up in.
TL;DR:
1) Does poor work, will do more harm than good to your stuff
2) Unprofessional
3) Ratchet enough to throw hands over $35
4) Asshole
5) Your stuff won't be safe staying there, the door's crap and the cameras don't work
Cesar offers 65 for screen repair. I say take your time, but he says he'll have it at 11am next day. I doubt it. 11am, says he needs 30-40 more minutes. Goes goes back to typing, def not to tell clients he's running late. Little annoyed at wasted time, but I really need my phone back.
He says he only takes cash. Hey, I don't like taxes either. I return @ 11:40 w/ cash, door's locked. The place is also an internet cafe, he's locked clients in? He comes back at 11:50 , runs upstairs with a bag. "Oh, I locked you out. Opens it, not with a key, a credit card wedged between the door and frame.
???
While working on mine, runs to a window, grabs a phone that was sitting in the sun with no screen. Says it gets out the moisture, a little heat is fine.
It was during the heatwave, 90+ degrees, thru glass? Gets back to the desk. "Fuck! Aw shit,". looks at a black thing next to the battery, I guess it's messed up. I should've backed out by then, I don't claim to be smart, or any kind of hero. I watch carefully, figure I can have someone else pop off the screen later to check his work.
He pulls a screen for my phone from the bag he ran in with. If you need time to go buy the part, email me to pick it up friday, don't waste my time.
I tell him to take his time, don't want him rushing. Fixes it quick. I test it out at 5% battery, see time is 12:00. Screen works, but phone heats up badly. I'm annoyed at this point.
"It's heating up."
"It's because it's not charged enough."
Bullshit, I've used it at low battery and it's been fine.
"Listen, I can't wait for it to charge. You have my email, I'm gonna put down $30 today, and if it doesn't heat up again, I'll be back with $35." Petty, but I can't risk my phone getting bricked without a warranty.
I get my backpack and start walking out. Guy leaps in front of the desk and blocks me, grabs my shoulder and pushes. I push him back. He rips open my backpack on my shoulder and picks up an e-reader that falls from it, worth more than his repair job, and keeps it.
A man stands up and breaks it up. Repair Genius tells him he's a witness, despite sitting behind a wall and not seeing much.
"Well I'll wait, I'm waiting to print." (Doesnt get his print job til the cops leave)
Sits down, calls 911.
"Go for it, get yourself an assault charge over $35"
I don't really want to press charges, takes forever and wouldnt do anything.
MacGuyver says hell put back the cracked screen back and refund it. I refuse, he'll likely make it worse.
Man says "Don't you sign a waiver here?"
"Idiot didn't give me a waiver, not even a repair ticket. If I wanted, I could say we agreed on $30. I shoulda known when he fucked up another phone AND he was an hour late without an email."
Shows us a paper with just 11:40 written on it. "See? This is the time I gave her."
"You wrote that down just now, we both just saw you."
"Shut the fuck up, stop talking. I know a bitch when I see one."
"You know how to keep a bitch around? Call the cops, theyll be here in 2 hours. Now Im gonna miss class."
"Shut the fuck up, stop talking."
"Ill talk as much as I want, got time to kill and no book"
He calls twice, 30mins apart. Mr. Fixit changed the report and the dispatcher called in twice to the same place, we get 2 pairs of cops.
After 1.5 hours waiting, cops arrive pull us each aside to get the story. Guy says the security cams dont work. Either he's an idiot, or I guess cameras don't work when you throw hands. Cops didn't check, took his word.
cops suggest putting back the broken screen, I say no, don't want him touching it. Cops agree he screwed up, suggest the Better Business Bureau. I shrug and pay the 35.
Lol just noticed he has either 5 star reviews or 1 star reviews. Wonder which ones are real.
Cesar, you don't have to work with customers if it's not your thing. There's lots of options, trucking, working on a crab ship, underwater welding, most of them pay better. read more
