As I've said before, I've been going for my haircuts at Astor place for many years and I always prefer to see David when I go . He's very personable and does a consistently great job , plus that scalp massage and hot towel are really above and beyond. But I unfortunately may have to start looking for a different barbershop because I'm on a fixed income as disabled senior and honestly I feel $30.00 plus a tip is pretty outrageous. I understood when after the Pandemic the prices increased a bit to cover for PPE and lost revenue but $30. Is to much for a very basic haircut no matter how much I like David and the rest of the staff . read more

I give the place a 5 if you get a spot with Mike. I fell in love with the place when Mike told me he gets there at 6am... For years I'd go early in the morning before my commute into Manhattan for work. So convenient! Aside from Mike I've only used 2 others when he wasn't there. Seat 1 is ok, but he is the manager or owner, so always gets distracted. Another was from a woman who has since left... Mediocre cut. Overall-Mike 5 stars The rest meh-3 stars read more

I went to Dina for years before moving and recently went to her again when I was back on the Island. She listens to what you want and is very friendly. I've never received one bad haircut from her. She even remembered me after I came in for the first time in a year and gave me a big smile and said she thought about me and was worried that something had happened to me. read more

Not the place to go for a good haircut. A quick haircut? Sure. But nothing quality about it. If you're unfortunate enough to sit in the first chair, be prepared for a rushed, half hearted haircut that you'll wear with regret until your hair comes back. The only reason I'm even giving 2 stars is because of the price and how fast they work. I've gone to every single barber in the whole entire shop and not 1 of them give you what you ask for. It's like every horrible barber on Staten Island got together and opened up this place. One specific example is I sat down in one barbers chair and asked for a shave. The barber looked at me and goes "ummm... I don't do shaves I don't know how I'm sorry." Fine whatever maybe he was new. Sat in the next barbers chair and asked for a shave "you want me shave your head right?" "Uhh no shave my face?" "Ohh... I'm sorry I can't do that." Finally the third barber figured it out and shaved me, but it even all the way. When I asked if he could shave me a bit more he said "I'm sorry I can't it's not good to be shaved that much." This is the first barber that ever told me I shouldn't have a clean shave. Horrible barbers and not to mention a dirty looking shop. read more

Pretty good, relatively cheap barber for those of you in rush. I was seated almost immediately-in fact, so quickly that it caught me off guard. Another plus is that they do their work very swiftly. I can't remember the last time I was in and out of a barber's chair in less than 10 minutes. Very impressive. read more

It is rather difficult to write about Astor as a whole being it is comprised of many different hair stylists. I can however comment on the fact that almost 90% of the stylists that work there, have worked there for over ten years (I was 13 when I started going there and am 23 now). This would mean that they have a fairly decent following of regulars that go to them (i.e. they were happy enough with their haircut to come back). I myself have been going to the woman, Gail, for the entire time. A normal mens haircut will run you $11 and if you enjoyed the service, it is polite to tip your stylist.I have always felt good about the haircut I received and intend to keep on going there. Who knows, stop by on a Saturday and you might find getting a trim. I gave it a 4 based on my experiences with Gail and on my observations over the years. read more

I have been going to this place for 22 years and just started bringing my son here. Same barber for 22 years. If that isn't dedication I don't know what is. Waits are sometimes a bit long but once you figure out the scheduling your usually in and out in a hour. Old school place that still uses scissors. Highly recommend. read more

These are people who lack basic haircutting skills. I've went to to this place a very good number of times. Each time I came, thinking that maybe it was just the specific stylist that was the problem, or maybe I wasn't clear enough to tell them what I wanted. However, it was so consitant with multiple stylists there. In addition, with my experiences besides one of the guys, all of the stylists were very rude as well. I suppose if you're only asking them for something that you would be able to effortlessly do yourself if you have a pair of clippers, they might give a good delivery. Though, I wouldn't even take that risk, because not only is there a much cheaper way, they always find some kind of way to screw up a very basic haircut. read more

I've been coming here for years after looking high and low for a decent barber. They just fixed the place up a little so it's a little brighter and they now have a TV. It isn't a beauty salon by any stretch of the imagination, this is a barber shop through and through. I never saw anyone get their hair washed / shampooed (I don't think this is even an option) and there are no appointments. If you're looking for pampering and luxury go somewhere else, if you're looking for an inexpensive but quality haircut by a skilled barber, this is your place. Omg! I'm 52 years old and this is my first complaint with a barber ever!! I used dozens of barbers and this guy Mario absolutely butchered me! He seems nice but I think he should just retire..after he cut it I had to tell him it's totally crooked and he blamed it on my somewhat curly hair! Ask for Mike, this old school Barber is good at what he does. Gave my husband a great haircut, I showed him a few pictures and explained what we wanted and what we didn't want delivering the exact look we wanted. He took his time but still finished quickly and made sure to step back and triple check the haircut from all angles. read more

I took my son and my brother to get haircuts and I told the barber in the beginning to give my son a lollipop so he can stay still for the haircut and he ignored me, I asked him again and he ignored me...well he didn't sit still and the barber was huffing and puffing.. in the middle he asked the barber next to him to give him a lollipop but said not to open it until he is finished...but u know kids want to eat it as soon as they see candy, so I opened it and the barber was like ok I'm Done and ripped off the tarp off my son and told me to never come back to the shop again. Such horrible customer service! If he would just listen to me in the beginning and got the damn lollipop, he can have a smooth haircut..(my son sat still after he was eating the lollipop btw) I told I know how to handle him...I'm the mother....then the barber says he got the most experience in the shop....well if u got the most experience u should know how to handle kids haircuts then! read more
