This stop is set apart from the others on the Cross-City (Brum to Lichfield) Line by relatively new, third-party branding on its platforms. That's because it's a stop for Aston Villa FC's home ground, Villa Park - a short walk away.
The welcome addition of the club crest on station signs came with a new Villa chairman who felt it might be nice to spend a bit of cash reflecting the club's pull beyond the confines of the two Aston streets between which it is located. For all that, though, you should not make the mistake of thinking that this is the only railway station in proximity of the stadium. Users of Witton station - on a different line - have a walk of similar distance. Directions, and of course a throng of people heading the same way, means finding Villa Park is easy.
There is shelter on both platforms, but the to-Lichfield side, which houses a ticket office, is larger. Erdington and Sutton Coldfield stations are just minutes away. From the other platform, New Street is between one and two stops away (not all trains call at Duddeston).
Keep your ticket handy on match days - you will need to show it as you leave the platform. read more
