Then again, I haven't hit my retirement yet so I guess time will tell. The company I was employed with for 23 years once had pensions, but by the time I had gotten there, pensions had gone the way of all flesh, and a 401K was the "happening thing," the "new normal." Don't like it? Not "happening" for you? Tough shite. Pensions have gone the way of the dinosaur. You want a pension? You should have become a cop. After 23 years with that company, I was laid off, along with everyone else in my office (except for 1 guy...the Teamsters were able to secure for him a job as a janitor at the now-pretty-much-empty facility where we used to work because the union really liked him, even though he had less seniority than a lot of us, but that's a review for another time, when I write reviewing Teamster weakness, mendacity and corruption-- Jackie Presser was my president, after all, so we as union members encountered a lot of weakness, mendacity and corruption. Don't worry. That review is coming. And if I disappear before then, well...they never found Hoffa, so I doubt they're going to have much luck...or interest...in finding me. Or am I being overly dramatic, given the near-total emasculation of unions everywhere in America? Am I suffering delusions of grandeur in even jokingly comparing or equating myself with Hoffa...who was a bum but did actually improve the overall lot of the union members he represented during the years he was president of the Teamsters even while he was enriching the Mafia)? Anyway...back to Fidelity.... Ultimately, I secured another job(s), but I definitely worried about the future (providing I got that far) and whatever security that 401K was going to offer me. But I have to say that my experiences with Fidelity haven't been bad so far. They contact me once a year and we go over my "portfolio." I immediately profess my near-total ignorance of the stock-market/bonds/face-value-vs-par-value/trading/fixed-or-variable-rates-of-interest/long-term-capital-appreciation/small-cap-vs-micro-cap/financial-markets/investing/annuities/business-in-general/public-vs.-private/etc./etc. The reps I talk to have been pleasant, thorough, professional. I usually feel some relief after talking to them. (Although I do have to say that 1 rep I talked to was not exactly a "charm school" graduate-- after talking tough about the "volatility" of markets and the possibility of complete financial ruination, she asked, "So suppose you make 84 years of age, or 90, and there's no money left for you? How would you feel about that?" I kept my cool, with difficulty, but I wanted to answer, "How the f*ck do you think I would feel about that? Ebullient! Ecstatic! I'd throw my walker to the side and moonwalk my way with arthritic vigor into oncoming traffic! What the f*ck would you do?!?") I called them recently to lower the "aggressiveness" of my stock portfolio, given that Trump is president (by the way, in terms of criminality, Hoffa and Presser were pikers, in comparison to Trump; I think even Al Capone might have tipped his hat to Il-Douche and said, with grudging admiration, "Well done!"), and a financial iceberg is looming on the horizon. I really hope I'm wrong about that, but I don't think so. Catastrophe is coming, and I'm obviously not the only one who thinks so. The rep I talked to was helpful with my request, and remarked, "You're not the first person I've talked to today to be doing this. And I doubt you'll be the last." Obviously, if I live long enough to retire, and see how efficiently I'm able to sustain life based on what Fidelity has done for me, this review might be updated (if I can still see to type on the keyboard, that is). For better? For worse? Time will tell, I guess. But so far...I can't really complain. So far, at least, they've done their job professionally and efficiently and I'm satisfied.

Poor customer service and lack of ethics. They delayed processing my check, then processed it and…read moreadded to my account. After 4 months, I found out that they couldn't process the check as it exceeded its timeline. What was shocking was that they added the money to my account initially but silently removed without informing me. Now, they are blatantly ignoring the part where I lost money (interest of principal) by not having the amount in my account. On top of it, I now have to work with previous financial services company to obtain my check. One of the staff I was speaking with was very helpful in identifying the issue. Not to mention there were hang ups many a times as some of the staff didn't want to entertain the request. Miserable experience. I am moving my money away from these bigots!

We've been Fidelity customers for many years and we've been very satisfied. The size of our…read more Fidelity portfolio gives us a personal financial advisor who meets with us regularly (at his office pre-pandemic, on Zoom since) and has been very helpful. We use the website for tracking our portfolio, moving money electronically, etc. If, for example, we need to move, say, $25k from Fidelity to a bank checking account, it takes about a minute on the website, and it will get done by next business day. If we have something more complicated, we phone, someone answers right away, and they find a way to do what we need. (As an example, several years ago I needed to do some fairly complex maneuvers to make cash flow work for a home purchase; Fidelity helped me get it done.) We get small perks like a no-fee debit card that we use for ATM withdrawals because Fidelity refunds us any fee an ATM charges (anywhere in the world). I don't know why other Yelp reviewers have had such unhappy experiences, but we have never run into bad service or a problem that couldn't get solved.

Two out of the three agents I spoke to, on three separate occasions, severely misinformed me, specifically about the estimated time of arrival on which I would receive the funds (paper check that had to mailed) I withdrew from my retirement. Assuming I would have already received the check, because I received the "Distribution Statement" on Monday, July 14th, 2025, I called Fidelity and was specifically told that I would receive the check on Wednesday, July 16th, 2025 (today). Today, I arrived home, checked my mail, expecting the check and it was not there, so I called to find out why. The nice representative that I spoke with today did her due diligence (unlike the two prior), apologized profusely and informed met that the ETA now would likely be next Thursday, the 24th, which is totally unacceptable. The original transaction took place on July 1st and I was told that I would receive the check in "7 to 10 business days, that being said, July 4th is a holiday". Check wasn't even cut until July 7th, not even mailed until the 10th, was verbally told on Monday that I would receive it today (16th), and now the 24th?!!!!!! It is 2025 and it takes 24 days from the date of the transaction to receive a check? This "miscommunication" is going to cost me anywhere from $3000 to $4000. I can certainly understand a 3 or 4 day delay, but we are talking about 14. All these calls were recorded, so feel free to go back and listen. I hope someone does. Fidelity is a huge company, with billions of dollars, and I'm just a nobody, with a small 401K, in their eyes. They need to treat all their customers/clients the same way and make this right!! When old Stinky calls their 800 customer service number...the reps are the epitome of professionalism and I feel treated the way a valued client should be. Wish many other companies could be like that. So helpful and patient in whatever the situation may be. Their checking account and debit card tools are groovy as well! Would not hesitate to recommend them for anyone that needs some simplification and order with their finances. Also there is no account maintenance fee. The website is easy to use and has a lot of helpful features. The $9 trades seem reasonable compared to other online brokerages. Social Security viewed those profits as income, and, as a result, cut my monthly benefit by roughly 33%. And neither of the Mayflower advisors I dealt with ever made me aware of that possibility. Had they, I of course would have insisted that those equities not be sold. So at 81 and with serious health issues, for the first time since I began receiving Social Security, instead of an annual cost of living increase, the only other source of income I have other than what my life savings is earning under the stewardship of my new financial advisors has been reduced by thousands of dollars.
