I attended Sage Truck Driving School in Lexington, SC from June 23, 2025, through July 31, 2025. My…read moreexperience was disappointing and not reflective of the investment I made. Much of the training felt self-taught. Instructors often sat back and observed without offering guidance unless I specifically asked for help. I struggled with yard maneuvers on gravel and later discovered on my own that adjusting my seat height, due to my shorter stature, made a big difference. This was never suggested by an instructor. When I later practiced at the DMV on smooth pavement, the transition was difficult because I had only trained on gravel, and I received no useful feedback from instructors. On my August 12th test, I failed the pre-trip inspection, largely because I had very little one-on-one instruction on the brake test. My only focused review came the day before the exam, which was inadequate. The instructors clearly knew how to drive, but in my opinion, they were not effective teachers and lacked patience. After failing, I was charged an additional $300 just to use the school's truck for retesting--without any extra instruction--on top of already paying over $5,000 in tuition. I failed again on August 18, which I believe was due to lack of proper training and confidence-building. While corporate offered me four additional hours of training, it was with the same instructors I felt had not provided the support I needed. I requested a refund, but was told that state policy prohibits it. I am still waiting on a promised call back. Overall, I feel the school does not provide the structured, supportive instruction necessary for student success. My recommendation would be for Sage to focus on better instructor training, patience, and ensuring students are truly prepared before being sent to test.
