I had to look up information about this doctor. As a patient, I want to know the qualifications of someone I am trusting with my life. Abdollah Assad got his MD from Spartan Health Sciences University in the West Indies. Presently, the MD program was placed on probation by CAAM-HP, the accrediting body for schools in the Carribean. The University is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools. A school that is not accredited may be listed in the directory! In the United States, the medical boards of the following states listed Spartan as an institution whose graduates were ineligible for licensure: California, Indiana, North Dakota, and Kansas Abdollah Assad is no longer with West Hills Hospital in Reno, Nevada. read more

Literally the worst doctor I've ever been to. He jams 10-15 clients into one appointment session and because of this your appointment is always late and beyond rushed. I moved here from San Diego for my husbands orders to NAS Fallon last December. Sierra Mountain Health was the place I was referred to and Dr Assad took me as a patient. I had to wait 3 months to get an appointment so was completely out of my ADD medication, and had about a weeks worth of Welbutrin left. I was taking Welbutrin for mild to moderate depression, and have a pretty severe case of ADD and take Adderall twice a day which allows me to hold a job, focus, and get work done. First appointment I walked in, he barely glanced up, asked me what I was on and the dosage. He dropped my dosage on the Adderall to half what I was used to taking and cut me off completely from the Welbutrin, cold turkey. I tried to voice my opinions on this and he said and I quote : "you don't know what you need, and you are too young to be on antidepressants" (I'm 32). WHAT?!? He then prescribed me less then 30 days of the new adderall dosage handed me my prescription, cut me off while I was still trying to talk to him and said see you in 30 days, go to my other practice, pay $40 CASH only and get a urine test before I see you again. I asked if this was covered by insurance, no, tried to ask if I could go elsewhere for this that would be covered again, no. Every month I'm required to drive an hour and a half to Reno in the middle of the workweek to pick up a prescription for Adderall and have to take a "personal half day" as I have 3 hours of driving, and another hour waiting for my appointment (he's always late at least by 30 mins-1 hour) for a 30 second appointment where I'm greeted with "how many pills do you have left". I don't even have time to sit on the couch before he angrily hands me a prescription while taking a personal call or is on his phone doing whatever for less then 30 days supply and then makes me leave (all while never actually bothering to look at me or ask how I am doing or feeling. If i say I have 2-3 left (to give me time to get my prescription into the pharmacy and then pick it up) he gives me less for that month (even when I explained its to give me a day or two to fill it as i have to go back to work). If i try to ask questions he cuts me off, dismisses anything I say, tells me to leave the door open on my way out, then goes back to his personal phone call dismissing me completely. I'd missed my last appointment due to car trouble, but was rescheduled the following week. Day before I get a phone call saying he canceled because of a family emergency. Okay fine, it happens. Made another appointment for the following week. At this point I've been out of meds for a while. Canceled again due to a vacation he took. Then Christmas and New Years week they were closed or don't have any appointments available. So I go today. After a 45 minute wait I go in he asks the same question on how many i have left (while on the phone saying he will pick someone up in like 5-10 minutes- so glad my time is valuable) i say none because the last two appointments were canceled by him, he hangs up the phone checks my chart and yells at me that its my fault I'm out, he hasn't seen me since October (wrong, i was there in November) and then cuts my already drastically reduced dosage in half again because "you haven't been on it in a while, you probably don't need it anyways, and it'll make you jittery for being off of it since October. I try to explain to him that i was here in November but missed my December appointment, but he interrupts me, tells me I need to go drive back up to Reno tomorrow for another urine test. I am so done with this inconsiderate, rude, nasty human and will be switching docs asap. read more

Do not, do not, do not, see this doctor. If you need psychiatric help, you're going to find that most psychiatrists in Reno have long wait times. And you're going to feel like you need help -now- and that asking you to wait six weeks misses the whole point. Not so with Dr. Assad: he can see you later in the week. There's a reason. Dr. Assad spent perhaps ten minutes with me - and that's a generous estimate. First, he asked me about a dozen vague, open-ended questions off a checklist, like "Are you sometimes suspicious of others?" (Who isn't??) He barely even seemed to be listening to my answers. And then he announced that he was prescribing me an anti-seizure medication. Three other doctors have all agreed that this was a ridiculous choice. He may as well have thrown a dart at a list of psychiatric drugs pinned to a dartboard. I don't have epilepsy; the medication is occasionally used for treating bipolar disorder, which I don't have; and - honestly I just have no idea what was going through his head. A month later, I had a follow-up appointment. This one didn't even last five minutes. He asked if I was doing better. I said I was struggling. He recommended that I take far more Xanax (you know, the addictive benzodiazipene with withdrawals that can actually kill you). And then he renewed my script for the same ridiculous anti-seizure meds. This guy should be in prison. read more

Dr. Assad double-books his patients. Each of the five times I have been to see him, he kept me waiting 15 - 20 minutes. Today it was 30 minutes. (Another patient waiting with me said she also was scheduled at 1 p.m.) When I shared with him that I felt like this practice disrespected my time (especially since he accepted a phone call regarding another patient during an appointment I was charged for -- "You don't mind, do you?" Yes. I do.), he apologized. Then he went on to offer several lame excuses for his poor practices. If my insurance allowed me to go elsewhere, I most certainly would. read more

This Dr assad has been my only Dr. since moving to Reno 2010 and has been nothing but kind and understand concerning my mental issues. Went to the VA for assistance and they label me untreatable verbally or with their meds and made me feel like a social pariah due to my ptsd! This Dr. help me by listening to my pass that without him since 2010 i would not be as pleased for my 69 year as a widower! You who write negative or disappointed uncounted with this fine dr. Are the ones that think he should be some mind reader or their miracle worker and should STFU and go back to whoever and leave this very kind dr. Omg horrible experience!! I came for more than drugs... I needed and wanted help. He is a glorified Doctor who just writes prescriptions for people and doesn't even listen what you have to say. He asked me a whole bunch of questions and would only ever let me answer yes or no without any explanation. He doesn't just double book patients, he takes everyone who just wants their drug fix first, takes their money and gives them the paper with their refill. He made double sure when I left to make another appointment to get his $65. I paid $140 for a prescription for a drug I didn't even want to take. Waste of my time and my money. Total trash. First, where shall I begin? This so called MD doesn't deserve a rating, not even one star which is the lowest/forced minimum. To begin he changed my life for worse not for better. When I was only approx. 13 years old repeated second grade, so I was behind. In high school, sophomore year, I met Mr. Abdollah by referral, by my pediatrician (at that time) when I asked for a psychologist, specifically by me, not my guardian at the time. I answered yes to a few yes or no compromising questions which gave the doctor ¨concern¨ and sent me to this psychiatrist and his colleague psychologist, Dr Kambiz Alaei, after I insisted. I badly needed someone to talk to and get an unbiased opinion, a hint of concern and solutions to personal concerns, with for, example, breathing exercises, filter out methods and a kind of meditation particularly meant to help a personal goal of mental well being or in general(life). But instead I got a very expensive drug lord, I didn't know I had met, at that time. I usually do not judge, until first impression. My mother of-course came with me since I was a minor at the time and because over protectiveness and who else was going to pay the expense co-pays he charges, with private insurance (Aetna) at that time. Like all the other negative reviews, same yes or no questions, no time to respond, but hey, he let my mother do most of the responding. From what I remember responding, my answers didn't give the diagnosis, but what my mom said did. That's not how it's supposed to work. Now I realize this after thinking about it for so long. He decides to diagnose me Bipolar Depressive W/Manic Episodes, after just a few questions. What threw me off the most was he added genetic by fathers side(???). How did he know that? No blood test! Then came the prescriptions, expensive ones I found out later. I told him, ¨I don't want psychiatric medication because it's addictive¨, he laughed for a bit and asked, ¨where you hear that?¨ I received a red flag right then and there, being a minor, I didn't get a lot of decision making benefits. I saw him for 3 to 4 years, missed out on a lot since I was consistently drowsy, sleepy and 'zombie' looking with those medications, but I fought them and I would get a higher dose. The two people around me at that time acted against me in favor of Mr. Abdullah. They ruined my life by diagnosing me with something I clearly don't have. No other psychiatrist I have seen since has seemed to agree with me, besides Peggy Camper, psychiatric nurse practitioner who I got less intoxicated through communication longer than 5 minutes. She heard me out and put herself in my shoes. Unfortunately she retired. She kept me stable for 4 years under way less medication before that, and only at night instead of twice a day,which was high dose of Lithium, Geodon & Lamictal for 6 to 8 years of taking those specific prescription drugs. I lost friends, school concentration and my 1st semester of UNR after graduation. Been told forever having to be on psychiatric medicine due to this diagnosis. Which, I found out later in my adult life has been diagnosed to multiple people in this Biggest Little City of Reno by the same psychiatrist. Out of like 6 psychiatrists I've seen, only Mrs. Camper changed my life for better (their duty) understood my goals and accepted them. Which was getting off medication at one point, because I strongly feel I was misdiagnosed, my symptoms were anxiety and depression. At the time of diagnosis, I was in high school. Most students suffer depression and/or anxiety, not saying all, but a lot. Changes of mood because of puberty and life changes, who doesn't go through mood changes once in their life? It doesn't make everyone with these symptoms Bipolar Depressive w/Manic Episodes, and yes, I know there are worse diagnoses, but we all know the jokes that are made up, and told and spread about being Bipolar. I very much dislike it, it kills me inside. Now, Mrs. Camper doesn't practice any more so I'm stuck with psychiatrists who have Mr. Abdullah's, similar mind set. Now stuck w/ a monthly injection and 3 bottle prescriptions, that I hate, but according to that, the clinic so far agrees I am more stable now than ever, and I had given up fighting the misdiagnosis and getting off medication, until now. I dislike the monthly injection, because it slowly makes me gain weight. I went from 125 to 165 pounds within a few months. Now I am seeing doctor Wallace and he deserves a chance, so far, to hear me and let him know my long term goal which is be off medications, most importantly a fresh unbiased well thought out, researched not on the spot, new diagnosis. Best clinic (NNAMHS) so far I'v gone to with its ups and downs of'-course but great customer service, finance options and great support system. We deserve justice, all who have gone through this or worse and could still be dealing with mental illness or not, just depression which is very common in humans. Please speak up. read more

I received a bill from this doctor; and I had absolutely no idea who this guy was. I have never been to the addresses he is associated with. I did not remember ever seeing someone with his name. Eventually, I sort of figured out what this bill was. I was an inpatient at a psychiatric hospital, and on the day that I was scheduled to leave - I was told by a nurse that it was my turn to see the psychiatrist. Upon seeing him he, said that my regular psychiatrist was not in today, and he was filling in for her; that was all that he said to me. He never told me his name. After reading the other reviews - I now know that this was that doctor I saw. I was in the room with him for literally 5 minutes, he asked me the exact questions "how is your mood?" & "are you suspicious of others?", just like everyone else here has stated, and he did not listen to a damn word I said, he would begin the next question before I even answered the last one. Then he said I could leave and I left. I now have this bill from him, and i'm wondering why this is not part of my hospital bill... I was an inpatient, at the hospital. I have never been to his office, I have never had any interaction with him except for those 5 minutes. There is NO mention of the hospital I was at. There nothing saying what it is i'm being billed for. There is just his name on a piece of paper saying I owe him money. Summary: He was very unprofessional, and impolite. From my interaction with him, it seems that he has no interest in his patients. And he has either billed me for something that never happened; or whoever does the billing is extremely incompetent. read more

This is as sad as it gets. I thought psychiatrists we're suppose to help people with depression, not make them more depressed! He doesn't act like he cares at all about the patient. However he really cares a lot about money. If your insurance company is late with paying, he won't see you. During an appointment he meets with you for 5 min. The same question all the time "How is your mood?" If you start to tell him anything longer than 2 min. He stops listening. I've tested him by asking questions to see if he was listening and he had no clue what I just said. Then he writes a prescription and you are out the door. He has no ideas about dealing with depression other than popping a pill. He is simply just a legal drug dealer, nothing more, nothing less. (I really question if he ever really went to college-or what kind of backwards college it was in some foreign 3rd-world country. Somebody should investigate his credentials) His billing person (his wife) has no clue how to bill insurance companies (she can barely understand English) and when she messes up, she blames you and then won't let you see the doctor. So. to sum it up-he puts you on drugs that have withdraws symptoms that make you crazy if you suddenly stop taking them-then his wife screws up billing-so then you can't see the doctor (because you owe money that insurance should pay) - so you can't get your medication - so you go through serious withdrawals that almost kill you. He should have his license revoked. He is the most uncaring doctor I have ever met. So sad that this is the "care" we have in this town! read more

Just moved to the area and found trying to get help for my medical needs is almost impossible in Reno!!!!! I called the office and was able to get in right away the same day.... I didn't have high hopes after reading reviews but Dr. Assad Abdullah was absolutely amazing I explained my needs and my health issues and he went over a program with me that would help me.... I expected to be treated like a DA but Dr. Assad Abdullah was the total opposite!!!!! New life in a new place and Dr. Assad Abdullah saved me and did so with compassion!!!!! He explained the medication he was prescribing me how it works and asked me if I had questions and answered all my questions. He spent about 30 mins with me I didn't feel rushed or judged. Thank you so much Dr. Assad Abdullah I look forward to being healthy and living a normal life!!!!! The only con was the cost of the Visit was high but with no insurance I knew it would be it was $380 for the visit..... it was worth it to start on a more healthy path in life. read more

This Doctor is nothing more than a glorified drug dealer going after people who have medicaid. I seen him for over 4 years and he had me completely whacked out. I would lose whole days without knowing what i did all day from his over medicating practices. I would sue him if I thought I could. He even had me change my HMO because health plan of Nevada was not paying him fast enough. so he had all his patients who had that HMO switch over to either strait medicaid or Americagroup. I did this and then I couldn't get any of my other medications for my Asthma . read more

Hands down the worst experience I have had during my decades-long struggle with mental health issues. Like everyone else on here, I went to see him because there were NO other options on short notice. I was desperate for help, immediate help. It was a nightmare from the moment I stepped in the door and was charged over $300 for my visit (despite having insurance). When I saw the actual "doctor", he didn't listen to me. At all. I was needing to go back on medication, I was there requesting medication, and instead he sent me to the emergency room of the hospital against my will. The staff at the hospital weren't surprised that he had sent me, even though I obviously didn't need to be there. Apparently, he does this kind of thing quite often, rather than actually dealing with and listening to a patient in real need of his help. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!!! You'd be better off going to a psych ward, seriously. read more

Double booking is his routine. He doesn't pay attention to appointment times, they mean nothing here. He'll see you when he feels like it and sees you for maybe a whopping 3 minutes. I honestly think he sees no problem with this, even though it's truly unethical. It's a cattle call with a wait often 30+ minutes to get your 3 minutes of almost attention. I saw this doctor for over 5 years just because I was too lazy to find a doctor who could actually remember my name (and pronounce it correctly) after seeing me 5-6 times a year for so long....Hmm, I'd think after 60 or so appointments I might make somewhat of an impression but seeing that he sees roughly 10 patients an hour I guess it was too much to expect. We parted ways when I confronted him on the double booking and he said if I didn't like it leave and find another doctor, which I did.
