Aspen Dental in Lincoln NE is not a reputable dental office. They lied about having an oral surgeon on staff. They do not. I went to there office for an appointment based off several lies they told me. I had ex rays done that I told them I had already had done at my regular dentist. They said they needed to do new ones because they were what their oral surgeon needed. At the end of the ex rays the manager left the room to set up my appointment. The receptionist came in and handed me a list of 4 oral surgeons. I asked if these surgeon's were in my network. She said yes they w ere. Well no they were not . They were not even associated with Aspen Dental. When I called Aspen back to complain I got the run around. I asked to speak to the NEW manager 3 times that I called. They never got hee to the phone, and she never called me back. Now my insurance company is denying my ex Ray charges from Aspen. When I allowed Aspen to do the ex rays it was because they said I would not be charged for them as it was part of the dental service I would receive. Now my insurance has denied the ex Ray charges that Aspen had submitted. This office is a con. They lied to me the minute I called for an appointment with the oral surgeon they do not have. They should have never done the ex rays knowing they had no surgeon to do my surgery. They lied about having an oral surgeon IN MY NETWORK. NEVER US THIS SCAM OFFICE.

I was treated so badly at another place and they almost seemed like they made it there personal mission to right that wrong and I couldn't be more grateful and humbled by how they have treated me. When you go to these people you become family to them and they make it their business to get your teeth or rather mouth in the best shape it can possibly be in. I will never go anywhere else as long as I live in this area. And they won't charge you for something that you don't need. They understand the value of a dollar and that people do or don't have insurance, so they work with you on that also. There is literally nothing bad that I can say about my experience with any of the people that has worked on me, and that has been quite a lot of them so far. I have to say that I love them all like family already. On your first visit they take your picture, on your second visit when you walk in the door the receptionist calls you by your first name before you have a chance to say who you are! That is how good they are. And they are genuine people, not someone who asks how you are because they have to be polite. I am not a very social or outgoing person, and I haven't lived here but going on four years. I have two friends because I don't trust people easily. But these people put me to ease right away and I trust everyone that has worked on me. I also would say that I consider the receptionist to be my third friend. For me you would be saying that is more than a five star, and Dr. Plooster who is now semi-retired, I can't even begin to tell you what he has done for me. He has given me a confidence back that I lost a long time ago. Dr. Hoffman took over and has learned from Dr. Plooster and I have to say that he is also a pleasure and ladies a very single (I think) and handsome man. I am old enough to be his mom, but he is going to be a force to behold and I can't wait to see what he does now and in the future. If you haven't gotten yourself a dental facility then you had better hurry up and try to get in here because they will be full very soon!

The…read moreoffice really is nicely appointed, and the front desk staff were helpful, thorough, and congenial. If you like to have a big TV crammed in your face at the dentist, you're sure to have that wish fulfilled, too. If you like an "expert" dentist who makes all of your decisions for you, Dr. Hohlen fits the bill. However, if you feel it's your own responsibility to be informed and say yea or nay to the chemicals and treatments being put into your own and your children's mouths, this may not be the dental practice for you. Although I went in asking nicely about facts from a systematic review article, I felt pressured and felt that my voice (and the evidence) carried little weight. Next, (and this could happen anywhere, I guess) a dental hygienist called my (young!) son by the wrong name while ushering him back to a chair and waving me off as if there was no need for me to follow. We quickly sorted out the misunderstanding, but I'm glad my son didn't end up getting whatever treatments were on "Sam"'s chart! Then, I was not impressed with his manner as he brandished a large needle aimed for my needle-phobic child's mouth. I felt his manner was not suave; granted, it is hard to be suave when you're holding a large needle. But he looked at me as if he expected me to control my child into not freaking. Then he said to my child, in frustration, "You need to do whatever your doctor or dentist says." I'm sure he didn't mean that to sound so creepy. But actually, I'm teaching my children to be informed and take responsibility for their own health. Dr. Hohlen seems to hold an exactly opposite belief. (PS: It all worked out. Dental care was administered, and no lasting trauma.) Finally, he assured me that a service would be billed as "this", because "he's hoping to take care of my teeth for a long time to come," and when the bill came... it was billed as "that." This could be as simple as a miscommunication between the doc and the staff who do the billing, but still not cool. He is young, and people do learn and grow. I hope a few years from now it'll be a different story. But I wanted to write this for the information of people who do want to take responsibility for their own health choices.

I…read morewas taken to multiple rooms during my visit with a very minimal (if at all present) description. I had been seen at my primary and sent over for an "emergency" evaluation. The majority of the staff were very kind and professional I still felt like I only had a small idea of what was going on. The first room I was brought in two and told by my very sweet dental assistant that we'd be in here for just a couple minutes. Before I knew it we're doing a pano x-ray. But that was not explained. A little picture is all the assistant said it was (panos can be really pricey if you've had one done within your insurances guidelines). I would have a least liked the heads up that we were taking a pano, why the doctored needed for the procedure, and if my insurance would cover it, etc (I understand they needed it, but a head ups for the patient is always nice). Luckily I have small amount of dental knowledge from a job in my college and high school years, but the average person my not have and knew what was going on with that respect. Then I agree to the procedure recommended for my issue and then some extra work. I asked the doctor a couple questions about the type of sedation that they use and got a very cold and condescending response from the provider. I asked I fair question, I wanted to know what medications they'd be using. It's my right as a patient to full understand what will be going on when I'm asleep and can no longer speak for myself. The doctor didn't answer my question about the medications right away it first he said something along the lines of (in a very condescending manner) ummm uhh why? Do you have experience with those types of drugs I said what my position (I'm not going to disclose my actual tittle but I work in a hospital setting and administer these medications on a daily basis) is and I got the "ah ok" response then and a verbal list of the medications used and nothing else. I then saw my job title written in the middle of my chart and it had been circled. If I wasn't for the amount of pain I was, I would have l left at the time and looked for a more respectful provider. Then I was told they were getting my room ready. A few minutes later I was being taken into the procedure room, there were at least 4-5 people in there all starting to do things to me. The only person that introduced themselves was the nurse who placed my IV and my previous assistant who put EKG patches on me ( both of them explained there roles and what they were doing). The other 3 people made no introduction of their name of position or need to be the the room (I usually roll my eyes at ADIET lectures but please tell me your name and why you're touching me at the least. But a the least please tell me your name and what you're doing, it calms the freaked out patient who is already apprehensive of the provider, a little bit) I was given no overview of what was going to happen/process. The doctor didn't even tell me when he began to give the sedation. He just said "weird to be on the other side of the table huh" I just felt small and it's all seemed so sterile and like I was a pawn piece they just kept moving around with no thought to what that INDIVIDUAL pawn piece was feeling the whole entire time. I woke up in the recovery room with of course not a clue how I got there and no real explanation from the staff orientating me back what was going on and the plan from there. I then waited a very long time and was told by the nurses several times that they'd just talk to the doctor and he'd be in to look at things and that HE said it'd be just a minute. it would be a much longer than a few minutesminute. I wasn't asking to speak with him but know they have to talk to you before you can go. My prescriptions were printed (no electric prescriptions) they also didn't call them in for me. I had to go and get them filled after my appointment and wait 30 minutes for them to be filled then there the 15 minutes it took to get to the pharmacy and all the time I had been sitting there waiting for the doctor. At the office it as pushing 1.5 after major oral surgery with no pain medications available. By the time I was waiting for my prescriptions I was not doing a very good at hiding my tears from the discomfort I was feeling. This appointment comes after a weekend of horrible jaw pain and worry. It was not a pleasant or comforting experience especially with it being all unplanned and not having anytime prepare (besides the recovery nurses, one did those nursing things that just make you feel better, pulled the covers up wiped my nose those little things). Maybe this office does a better job with established patients, but my whole experience left me feeling small. That's the best way I can describe it. The procedure went well though and I didn't feel anything, that part of their work is the easy part though.

A month later, it was causing sharp internal pain and sensitivity to cold. When I went back in, he gave it a 30-second glance, did a bite test, and immediately blamed my bite -- no X-ray, no cold test, no real effort to investigate. When I explained the pain felt internal, he cut me off with "Oh, you don't trust the professional?" -- arrogant and defensive from the start. I calmly tried to understand what he was seeing because it felt like we weren't even on the same page. Instead of a conversation, he kept claiming I was "arguing" simply because I was asking for clarity and solutions for a problem he clearly didn't want to deal with. It got worse when he pulled up a picture of my tooth, pointed to the wrong part, and tried to gaslight me into believing I had told them it was the back, when I'd clearly said the front from the start. When I asked the assistant to confirm what I said, he called me "petty" and kicked us out. Their office coordinator, Haley, wasn't any better. When I reached out hoping for accountability, she told me not to expect an apology since I was no longer a patient. She gave a weak, obligatory apology on their behalf but made it clear she needed to "hear their side" -- as if any part of this was acceptable or up for debate. That kind of leadership sets the tone for a practice, and it shows. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration. This office cares more about ego than patient care, and their professionalism is nonexistent.
