Unfortunately, I've noticed a significant decline in the level of care and customer service over the past few years. The front desk staff often come across as very cold and, at times, rude. I've also had several frustrating experiences with appointments. If you arrive even a few minutes late, you will be asked to reschedule and charged $50 even though THEY cancel the appt. If they do keep your appointment, the visit can feel very rushed and the cleaning turns out very subpar. I've even had the same hygienist lecture me about being late. I understand that being on time is important, and I'm not expecting the office to accommodate someone who is consistently late. However, traffic in Grand Rapids has gotten significantly worse, and sometimes even leaving early doesn't mean you can predict what will happen on the roads. What has bothered me most is the complete lack of empathy when these situations happen. A recent phone call was essentially, "When do you think you will be here?" followed by, "Okay, you're five minutes late, so we have to reschedule." There was no "I'm sorry, I understand," or even an attempt to acknowledge the situation. The interaction felt very impersonal and transactional. What is most disappointing is that I have been a patient here for so long, and I remember the level of care being much better. I don't expect special treatment, but I do expect to feel respected and cared for as a patient. Dr. Julie is a good dentist, but unfortunately most of the interaction is with front staff and hygienist who just care about you being on time. Based on my recent experiences, I unfortunately cannot recommend this office. After nearly 20 years as a patient, that is disappointing to say. There are plenty of other dental offices where you can receive good care while also feeling like your time and business are valued.

Dr. Neuman is incredibly kind and compassionate, while also being realistic and straightforward. He takes the time to listen, thoroughly explain options, and provide thoughtful recommendations based upon what is best for his patients. He also respects the ultimate decisions of his patients. In the past, when emergencies have arisen, his staff has gone out of their way to get me into the office, almost always on the same day. You simply will not find another dental office that cares as much about its patients as Advance Dental. Furthermore, Dr. Neuman and his staff are extremely knowledgeable about allergies and other individual health considerations. They have taken my Celiac disease seriously and have consistently gone the extra mile to ensure that the products and materials used during my dental care are safe for me. They have researched every ingredient and compound. I truly appreciate the quality and state of the art/advance level of care offered.

I am a patient with a documented disability involving severe dental anxiety, which I disclosed when…read moreI became a patient of Dr. Shawn Dial at Partners In Dental Care after moving back to MI. I was initially told that accommodations could be made. However, based on my personal experience, I encountered challenges with my care and customer service. The day before my first crown appointment, my father suffered a stroke. I still attended the appointment but became very emotional due to anxiety and concern for him. During the visit, Dr. Dial commented that I appeared to have had traumatic experiences in the past and later prescribed medication for a future visit. I also shared that I use an emotional support animal to help manage anxiety. Two days before my permanent crown appointment, my temporary crown cracked. I was told over the phone that another dentist at Partners in Dental Care could place the permanent crown because Dr. Dial was unavailable. When I arrived, I was informed by the other dentist that he would not complete another provider's work. This surprised me, as it differed from what I had been told just an hour before. I asked whether an accommodation could be made so I would not have to repeat a stressful process again in just two days, but it was refused. I returned two days later, and Dr. Dial placed the permanent crown. During that visit, I explained that my emotional reaction at the first appointment was partly due to my father's medical emergency. She acknowledged my situation at that time. Shortly afterward, two days before Christmas, I received a letter from Dr. Dial terminating my care. I have no idea of the reason, as the letter was vague. This decision had not been discussed with me in person, despite having seen Dr. Dial the prior week. I personally found receiving this notice by letter, especially over the holidays, to be distressing and felt a direct phone call or in-person conversation would have been more appropriate. The letter also referenced a 30-day guarantee on their dental work, which I found confusing and below my expectations. Additionally, I observed staff interactions that seemed dismissive. For example, I noticed front desk staff chatter and eye-rolling in situations involving other patients, including an elderly individual using a mobility aid. Based on my personal experience, I would not recommend Dr. Dial or Partners in Dental Care. I have included a photo of the letter from Dr. Shawn Dial terminating my care, with all personal information redacted for privacy.
