I made an appointment at Summit Dental in Canton. A young dental hygienist said that there were a few areas that required a deep cleaning with an anesthetic. Dr. Storm came in to discuss and told me that he wanted to do the cleaning first (an expensive procedure). I told him that I had been waiting for the crown on my implant for almost a year and asked him to put the crown in first. Please note that the implant was on the other side of my mouth and was prepped and recently checked by an oral surgeon, so a deep cleaning of the area was not necessary. The doctor agreed to place the crown first. Two weeks later, the office called, and a lady wanted to set up a date for the cleaning. I told her that Dr. Storm agreed to place the crown first. She seemed like she didn't believe me. I asked her to check with the doctor. Two weeks later, I called to schedule my crown. The lady I spoke to said that they would not place the crown until the cleaning was done. Needless to say, I started a search for a new dentist. A hygienist at the new office, obviously with a great deal more experience, conducted an evaluation and came up with much different results. No deep cleaning with sedation was necessary. I received a regular cleaning and later, a crown. After this episode, I have heard of similar situations involving a dentist (not Summit Dental) ordering a deep cleaning, which turned out to be unnecessary. The only advice I could give is that you should seek a second opinion if something doesn't sound right. In my case, it was a broken agreement between me and a dentist on which procedure would be performed first that drove me to a second opinion. The funny thing to me was that after all of this, the lady I spoke with at Summit Dental acted surprised when I called to have my records transferred to a new dentist!

I said, "Well ma'am it was the most outlandish experience I have ever had in a healthcare setting." She said, "Well, we don't want your money, we are going to write this off, but you never come back here again." I said, "Clearly you never have to worry about that." Initial Review: I feel the need to preface this review with my credentials as a person, because this experience was so bizarre... I am 41, I have a masters degree in leadership, I am a successful professional, I am a mom, a wife. None of this should matter when going to the Dr. but I want you to know who I am before you read what I experienced. Years ago I had a tooth extracted and never got an implant. I now need one so I don't lose the tooth above it. In the meantime of scheduling the implant visit, I bit down on a piece of sea salt and injured the next tooth. I went to my dentist who did an x-ray, but he was unable to see a crack and he said I should go get a 360 x-ray. I went to Akron Highland Square because they could do the x-ray, my implant and were in network with my insurance. This was my first visit with this practice and my last. I took the early appointment as I had to work that day. I did the x-ray and they sat me in some weird corner "nook" by the windows, where the front desk and the people in the waiting room could likely hear any discussion as it was just on the other side of the main door and the open window at the front counter (HIPAA?). Odd, but it gets way worse. The Dr. comes in to discuss and I went to point at the tooth (and lack thereof), I guess I don't know why, I don't talk about my teeth with people often and I talk with my hands... I also suppose it is gross, but I am at the dentist to talk about my teeth... Dr. Brokloff screams at me (a 41 year old woman), DO NOT DO THAT! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? THAT IS DISGUSTING! WOULD. YOU. DO. THAT. AT. YOUR. GYNECOLOGIST!? I have now known this man for 2 full minutes and this is what he says to me. Now, I mentioned I am a mother, to a daughter... What if I was a 15 year old girl, or a 23 year old young woman? How would they be expected to handle this interaction?! I don't give a damn how good this dude thinks he is at his job, under no circumstances is this type of behavior acceptable. My gynecologist? That comment was right on the top of his mind and tip of his tongue as an appropriate thing to say to a woman and paying customer. Not to mention the loud manner in which he berated and dressed me down in that little weird nook in front of everyone. We continued the appointment, (that I should have walked out of) and he proceeded to tell me about the process or whatever. To which I had to explain, I have a severe needle phobia (I go through this any time I have to go to a new Dr. where needles will be involved, it is embarrassing) and he said, "I don't care, that has nothing to do with me." I explained I would need something like a Valium or Xanax and he said, "I am not giving you anything for this." I told him listen, I did 15 hours of labor with no needle sticks, I have had teeth filled without numbing because I can't do needles and he just got more dismissive and rude. Then proceeds to tell me about the Dental Vibe and how I need to Google it and how he made YouTube videos of it. He said something about, "A lot of people don't like the dentist." I explained my husband was in the Navy, HE has a dental phobia, I have a needle phobia. Then he perks up and says, "Oh, your husband was in the Navy, that's great, I work at the VA so I am technically in the military." No dude, you are absolutely NOT in the military, shame on you. The level of arrogance, entitlement, misogyny this man has seeping from his pores and his mouth. It was grotesque and inappropriate behavior. I don't know how I missed the reviews, but have since then found where others had similar experiences, he made negative comments on a woman's makeup etc. I called and spoke with other practices (as I now have to find someone else) who said they have heard this about him, that you either like him or you hate him and that he does a good job, but... PSA: Specifically if you are a woman- there are other oral surgeons out there who don't have the capability to behave like this.

She had arrived first so they told me I'd have to reschedule. I have already changed to Summit Dentistry and am very happy there. When I cancelled my child's appointment and asked for her records to be sent to Summit, Kendra was very rude to me. If how people treat you matters to you, do not go to this office.

Doctor Then is the kind of dentist who I would (and have!) travel long distances to see. I've been…read moregoing to him since childhood, and even after moving out of state and changing insurance, I would still pay out of pocket to have my teeth cleaned and checked by him. He's just that good. He adopts a conservative approach to caring for your teeth, not undertaking a procedure unless it's truly absolutely necessary. For example, I recently went to another area dentist for a regular series of x-rays (because my insurance has changed and I'm no longer covered through Dr. Then), and was told I likely needed a root canal and a crown--a far more expensive procedure. After sufficiently freaking out, I went to Dr. Then for a second opinion, and he was able to fill the cavity rather than push me towards the more elaborate, pricey scenario. He will NOT try to up-sell you on work that you don't need done. He and his support staff are also incredibly kind and personable. Whether you are getting a cleaning or a cavity filled, you can be assured that the work will be done in the gentlest way possible. He always says that he doesn't like pain either, so why would he pass it on to his patients. His office is clean, simple, and welcoming. I've been to other dentists who have bells and whistles like TVs in each of the patient rooms, and elaborately decorated waiting rooms, yet the actual service they provide is far inferior to Dr. Then's. I have been in the expert care of Dr. Then and his staff for many years, and I enthusiastically recommend him.

This was an additional payment from our monthly payment around $100. They should have let us know that something wasn't covered and asked how we could pay for it. Should be illegal! Definitely unprofessional! Update... After calling the insurance company to find out what wasn't covered, I found out that the insurance company hadn't paid for several months, claiming that they didn't receive any claims for those months. The office reversed the withdrawl and was willing to apologize for not informing us of the communication (or lack of) between them and the insurance company. Dr. Barnett and his staff are wonderful and we have loved our treatment there. It was unfortunate to have this unexpected hassle today, but it was resolved to our satisfaction.

They had 4 weeks to verify my insurance. Go to "consultation." They take a physical copy of my insurance card. Got forgotten in the room for 30 minutes after I was called back. They did apologize. Finally, get the dentist to come in, and our entire conversation went: him: "oh yeah, I can pull that tooth out no problem, about a 10 minute procedure. Do you have any questions?"" Me: "guess not. " Him: "Great, im leaving in 10 minutes, so we can't get you in today." It did raise a red flag since I wasn't there to get the tooth pulled. My regular dentist can pull teeth. My regular dentist sent me to a surgeon because it couldn't be pulled. A surgeon thats a 45 minute drive away. So 2 days before my next appointment (3 wks after consultation, mind you), I get a text that they aren't in network with my insurance. I call, and before I can even finish my sentence, Im interrupted with "so you are canceling, got it. If you change your mind, call us back. " A month later, I received a $100 consultation bill. No joke. Do you think you provided a service in that 2 minutes that you were 30 minutes late to even show up for? I missed a few hours of work. I have to get a new referral and start this process over because of YOUR OWN ERRORS! If you see this, just know that im not paying, and I will be trashing this business name to every friend, family member, and stranger I ever meet. Additionally, just before Christmas Eve, I lost a crown (from a previous provider) and they fit me in to get it taken care of within just a day or so! I ended up needing a new crown, but he was able to mill it right in the office. I was in and out in just a couple of hours, and this with the office already incredibly busy. The staff work well together and I don't recall having to wait because they're running behind. I've also never had a problem rescheduling when life (inevitably) happens. I was wrong, they took the usual X-rays and then I was given a cleaning which during the whole process I was being sold on an electric toothbrush that they just happened to carry there. Then it was the Fluoride treatmentI should get every visit. When I finally saw the doctor and he looked into my mouth he counted out that I would need at least 12 crowns, and a bunch of other work. When I asked about fixing my broken tooth I was told we would schedule that for next time. So I spent 90 minutes and waited 6 weeks for a poor administered teeth cleaning. I went today a Saturday and had my tooth repaired not pulled like this dentist wanted to do. So the repair was not as expensive as this dentist wanted for the extractions. He had zero tolerance for someone with anxiety. My wife passed out as a result, and there was no indication of care. I was not even notified that she had passed out when we were told to leave. I do appreciate having our money back, and I believe there were some staff who were sympathetic. Perhaps Kronenwetter was having an off day, but that doesn't matter in a professional setting. If you go here, I would recommend Dr. Kimberly or Klein.
