Most of the food options can be modified to be gluten free or are available as-is, including cakes. Low and behold, it turned out to be one of the best decisions we made! This small antique store offers a variety of antiques, locally made items, and homey decorations we could all stand to have a bit more of in our lives. Hattesgaard also hosts the smallest (and cutest) location I have ever seen for a police station that underlines exactly how close of a community Rømø is. To top it all off, they offer an extensive variety of coffee, cakes, and pastries, including gluten free options, and the perfect cozy environment to enjoy it in. While it might not be good for your waistline or your wallet, Hattesgaard is a place you won't want to leave!

It is difficult to source environmentally sustainable furniture, but at least some of their products are labelled FSC. They could do better with garden furniture, which appears to be completely Asian hardwood when not plastic. The soft furnishings and household goods all appear to be made in China, but are mostly robust and wear well. The staff are helpful and efficient, but not overly friendly or courteous. A delivery service is offered and although they offer to construct the flat packs, we have had no experience of that service either, so cannot rate here. A second Dänisches Bettenlager can be found at the Familia site in Flensburg-Engelsby, but they have a more limited display of furniture.
