Great beach for a nice short walk. There's is a direct path from the Asilomar camp grounds that makes the beach accessible by foot from the local area. The beach tends to be too narrow for big runs or long dog walks. In the many tide pools here you will find mussels, small crabs, snails, and much more. Worth the visit if you are in the area. read more

Wow! Over, 300 Social Justice advocates in one place;awe Inspiring does not begin to describe this refuge by the sea. Gorgeous weather, crisp, warm and inviting at the same time inspiring. Rooms clean and literally hear the roar of the ocean from your room. Views are one of a kind and yes I saw plenty of deer just sitting from my room taking in the ocean view as I was. Getting back to my roots with sand dunes and all. Having sing a longs by the fire with my social justice brothers and sisters reminded me of the stories my mother would tell me of the 60's. No TV's and frankly put away my smartphones for a bit (although smartphone friendly) and enjoy what is around me. Please support this wonder that belongs to all of us. Peace and Love read more

Beautiful! This beach is absolutely amazing! So much to see. The water is so clear. The tide pools were full of so much life. I grew up in California and this is by far my favorite beach to explore and see all the different water wild life. Coastal views are spectacular. Home! I miss this place so much. If you have not visited this central coast gem, you really should. It's serene and beautiful. This is one of my favorite spots to watch the sunset. I make a point to do just that several times every time I visit Pacific Grove. I love how the scenery changes dependent upon the weather for the day. The beach is wide and picturesque. Plenty of tidal pools to explore, white sand, clear water (albeit very cold water) and enough waves to allow some surfing. The waves splashing on the rocks make for some vivid scenery making picture taking fairly easy even for the novice like me! Be prepared even if you come out in the summer as when the sun goes down it can become quite chilly especially if there is a breeze. Wildlife is plentiful with the sea birds, otters and deer that are fairly tame. You can park along the street, but parking is tight the closer you get to sunset. Plenty of spaces in the turn outs farther along if you don't mind a bit of a walk. This is my happy place. No where better to feel the stress of every day life just melt away! read more

Depending on which portion of the beach you want to pull over in, there might or might not be a parking lot. Although we pulled over on the side of the road with no problems. I know: risky, we could have gotten a ticket. But we just had to! We had to catch the beautiful sunset. The succulents or beach plants or whatever those flora were called were turning red for the season and when the sun hit the horizon, the beach grew crimson. It sure was beautiful! If the dying seaweeds that fluorished during the summer were not stinking up the air, it would have been just perfect! With the lighthouse right behind us, every turn you make, you could get a good photo... It also has a nice boardwalk you could walk in. Not the kind of boardwalk you see in Jersey; the kind of boardwalk you would see in a New England beach. The only thing missing are the adirondack chairs. Spectacular sand and sunsets here! ...a beautimous beach fo' sho!!! Seems to be the best sunsets here in the Monterey/Pacific Grove area. Lately (September) the skies have been so clear in the evenings, providing for stellar sunset viewing every eve! Below are links to a few of my sunset photos recently. I love this beach because it's easy access from the 101 via Highway 68. It's a pretty drive, and you bypass the tourist trap of the Cannery Row area, Lighthouse Ave. etc.. This place is SO beautiful. Super clean, and a ton of places to explore. Went on a gorgeous sunny day and just wandered around and played in the tide pools. There are many areas fit for kids, where its more calm and blocked off from waves, as well as cool rocky areas for more adventurous folk. Tons of hermit crabs, saw a couple of orange starfish and really neat sea anemones. Be careful where you walk though, as there is a ton of sealife hidden on rocks and all around the ground. I am so upset for accidentally stepping on a sea anemone (a lot of them are covered in sand and blend in). So so sorry little man :'( I also really advise you to get some water shoes for this place as well. *** One big tip I have is to look up online to see what time low tide is so you can get optimal tide pool exploration :) read more

Hidden in the back of monterey, this beach is not in the top destinations of this area, but that's okay, because that's what keeps it so nice. The white sand is just perfect. There is plenty of free parking on the side of the street. Who doesn't love free parking? The clear water crashing against the rocks and slowly making it way onto the dry sand, it was just perfect. Got kids?! They have places on the beach to explore the tide pools. Whatever you decide to do at the beach, this is the place to go. So many beautiful sights!!! Watched the sunset here for the first time and it was amazing. There's tons of trails by the beaxh and cool spots to take photos of. The rock formations were magnificent to look at too! Parking is just on the dirt road off to the side. If you don't see any parking right away, don't lose hope! Just keep driving down and you will eventually find one I promise! GREAT beach! For folks with four-legged family members (dogs) this is the best off-leash "park" Monterey area has to offer (as far as we know!) If your dog loves people and surfers, this is deffo the place to be. The beach is very clean and there are tide pools nearby to explore. Beautiful, breathtaking, incredible view!!! We stayed less than a mile from this beach and it was the perfect place to watch the sunset. There are benches and logs to sit on if you're not the standing type. And it's oh so peaceful! Just pull off to the side of the road to park and depending on which side of the street you park on be careful when crossing it, but drivers are pretty watchful for pedestrians so it's safe. If you're more of the adventurous type there are plenty of rocks to climb on (something I love to do). read more

Went for a great walk along Asilomar. Let me say that this a bit of a rant... where are the restrooms? There was 100 of out of town guest on the beach and on the trail enjoying their day, even a wedding on the beach, and 30 surfers. I walk here all the time and always wonder where all these people go to the restroom at. There are no signs saying where to go or that there are no facilities in general area. Shame on Asilomar State Beach for doing such a bad job at this. You fix the trails, and your workers have a locked port-a-potty during repairs, but locked to tourists. They are great trails which attract even more people to area. I watch a father with two small kids try to use locked unit, was sad, kids just went next to it. What about the health issues of people using the ocean and surrounding grass area as a bathroom. Where do you think they are going? We live in such a beautiful area why is this not a health issue, specially when our beaches get closed for high bacteria level from time to time. Please don't reply that a lack of restrooms keeps visitors out, that is just not true. I can't be the only local with this concern. I blame Asilomar State beach for this health issue. read more

Endless beach activities- Surf the waves, jog along the boardwalk, build castles in the soft sand, climb around the ocean rocks, swim in the ocean, have a campfire, etc. Asilomar Beach is located along Pacific Grove's west coastal stretch. People that grew up around here kept telling me I needed to visit this beach. Now I know why! Can really see and feel the power of the ocean here pounding the rocks along the shore. Makes for great pictures. Just make sure if you climb on the rocks to never turn your back on the waves! Almost got caught in between some of the rocks you see in my pictures by not paying attention to the rising water and waves! Also gloves are handy since the rocks are a lot sharper than they look in the pictures! Just wanted to remind people never to turn their back to the ocean here since just in the last couple of months several people have washed off the rocks here and even though the coast guard searched for them right afterwards were never found due to the rough surf here! read more

Went here at night to cap an evening of food, drinks and a small trip on 17 mile drive. This beach is basically perfect in every way. We went in mid July and the weather was perfect, not too cold which is nice especially during nighttime. I saw some people having a bonfire which would be a good time if I came back soon. If you are creeped out by little bugs on the same, bring sneakers as there are a lot of small crabs or whatever these things are that jump all over the place. read more

A beautiful beach located in the town of pacific grove. I live in Monterey and every time I want to take a little drive and watch the sunset, I come here. There are lots of little stops/pull outs near the state park and don't forget to walk the trails. You'll see lots of birds and if you're lucky, the whales! Here is a gallery that is visually and spiritually stimulating, where everything pours out speech. Tonight I got a sweet suprise. I was chilling in my truck when the bay was hit by micro-bursts. Surreal would be an understatement. I could roughly estimate maybe a cool 10 mph breeze to a frightening 60 to 80 mph. The winds voice in this stunning land and water was serious. Even in the sounds of the surf there were words of life. The lightning was grounding around me. The close water strikes were absolutely thrilling.
