Very little fresh options and I had seen mold in some of their ginger and garlic before. I understand it's probably the only Asian market in Lawrence, and the next closest asian stores being in Overland Park/Topeka, so there might not be a lot of options. But the quality of food, service and store maintenance are a whole separate conversation. If there's ever another option in Lawrence, I'd go there in a heartbeat. Until then, I try to do a monthly haul from Pan Asia Supermarket in OP, and only ever grab one-off items I need from F Mart as an emergency stop.

Unfortunately that's not what happened and I was too hungry to say anything. I had the falafel bowl. The dude just piled up whatever was in the bins & threw them in the bowl with some kind of awkward semi organized manner, while *completely* ignoring the hummus and the garlic sauce. I swore he put the hummus in first, but at the end I asked him if there was Hummus in my falafel bowl- and the answer was no. As in NO HUMMUS IN A FALAFEL BOWL. I also wanted garlic sauce and he refused to put it into MY food only on the side like some kind of lame afterthought for the flavor impaired. My buddy got the shawarma wrap, which looked more like a taquito. They put french fries in the shawarma wrap, along with a little bit of shawarma- and not much else. The advertise price was $9.99 but when we got to the register the price became $11.99. when we brought it to their attention that his shawarma wrap was not actually what they charged us - which they called a "viral ribeye shawarma" they try to tell us the extra $2 was for the nine french fries they added to the package. I GET that were in Kansas, and there's not too many folks that even know what a falafel or shawarma is- but these guys who spoke the language of these regions so they certainly do, or I guess I should say- they used to know what it was. I am quite disappointed by what they've become, I hope they understand this- but I probably won't find myself willing to give it another shot for a while.

I have been trying to figure out which grocery store had those fruit shaped cakes. I walked into World Fresh Market. The front of the produce reminded me of City Market. Beyond the produce, not a regular store. This grocery store has the prettiest cakes I've ever seen. There's flan larger than a regular cake. There's bags of iced cookies. Breads of all types. Oh, they also have tacos plus a Mexican restaurant attached. The bakery winds around to the middle of the store. Those fruit shaped cakes? Right there. So cute and looking yummy. I can't say enough about the bakery. I bought little fruit shaped watermelon fruit cakes. I also bought pistachio filled croissants. This is absolutely my favorite store. I'll be back cause I'm in this area often. But seriously, stop by the bakery and get a mousse cake if you want to be the favorite at a potluck.

We…read moredrove up to the center to eat at Thai Noodle, and I saw "EASTERN GROCERY" and an open sign and squealed for joy! Eric R.'s ear drums stayed intact though. We walked in and the new owner told us he opened Saturday and still was getting in products including more produce. There was a pretty reasonable amount of produce though - daikon, greens, lots of types of mushrooms, mammoth ginger root (see my pic), and other goods. There is a lot of space and most of the shelves seemed sparsely stocked, but there were tons of boxes in the back. I think it was cool of him to open before fully stocked, because this is a little more accessible than the other markets, though Yi's is technically walkable from campus. Aggieville is just much closer. There were drinks, snacks, pocky and other sweets, noodles, spices, sauces, rice, and even cookware like bamboo steamers. I bet this will be well received once it is fully functioning. I am thrilled that we have three markets in our small city with ingredients that I use on a regular basis, so this is a welcome addition to town!

I like the food court here better and now there's a banh mi/pho place as well (haven't tried). They have homemade soy milk, frozen homemade dumplings, ducks and cakes for order. Their bakery section is no longer cash only, which is great. 888 seems to have the same range as Pan-Asia but I somehow find more Chinese and Vietnamese foods here. I was looking to make Vietnamese fried flour rice cakes (bánh bột chiên) and I could only find them here. Before Pan-Asia got a makeover, 888 was my go-to. They used to be worse about labeling prices, but they've gotten better. Unfortunately my most recent visit had a couple items on the receipt that were scanned extra times and my partner hadn't noticed. Staff if always nice and helpful otherwise. Always double check your receipts!
