But the quality of food, service and store maintenance are a whole separate conversation. If there's ever another option in Lawrence, I'd go there in a heartbeat. Until then, I try to do a monthly haul from Pan Asia Supermarket in OP, and only ever grab one-off items I need from F Mart as an emergency stop.

As I approached the area to purchase the Dubai chocolate strawberries, two employees looked directly at me and did not acknowledge me at all. No greeting, no "someone will help you," nothing despite making clear eye contact. Meanwhile, a white couple was actively being helped at the same time. Being ignored like that is not only unprofessional, it is disrespectful. All customers deserve to be acknowledged and treated with basic courtesy. This experience left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome, which is unfortunate given that I've been a repeat customer. I hope management takes this seriously and addresses customer service expectations so that this doesn't happen to anyone else.

We…read moredrove up to the center to eat at Thai Noodle, and I saw "EASTERN GROCERY" and an open sign and squealed for joy! Eric R.'s ear drums stayed intact though. We walked in and the new owner told us he opened Saturday and still was getting in products including more produce. There was a pretty reasonable amount of produce though - daikon, greens, lots of types of mushrooms, mammoth ginger root (see my pic), and other goods. There is a lot of space and most of the shelves seemed sparsely stocked, but there were tons of boxes in the back. I think it was cool of him to open before fully stocked, because this is a little more accessible than the other markets, though Yi's is technically walkable from campus. Aggieville is just much closer. There were drinks, snacks, pocky and other sweets, noodles, spices, sauces, rice, and even cookware like bamboo steamers. I bet this will be well received once it is fully functioning. I am thrilled that we have three markets in our small city with ingredients that I use on a regular basis, so this is a welcome addition to town!

Their bakery section is no longer cash only, which is great. 888 seems to have the same range as Pan-Asia but I somehow find more Chinese and Vietnamese foods here. I was looking to make Vietnamese fried flour rice cakes (bánh bột chiên) and I could only find them here. Before Pan-Asia got a makeover, 888 was my go-to. They used to be worse about labeling prices, but they've gotten better. Unfortunately my most recent visit had a couple items on the receipt that were scanned extra times and my partner hadn't noticed. Staff if always nice and helpful otherwise. Always double check your receipts!
