My sister & I took our nieces who are 12 & 14 to Camden Park Amusement Park in Huntington, WV this weekend. We were just needing a quick, inexpensive place to basically just sleep after a long day at the park with the girls. Being a holiday weekend not many hotels were available for less that $150 a night, this one was $67. We were only going to need a one for about 8 hours before heading home so we chose this one since it was 15 mins from the park. 1st impression was not good even after just pulling in the parking lot. It appears that this motel is more than likely mainly used by many to actually "live in". When we 1st pulled in we noticed many people just milling around, looking & leering at us & our girls. We got the key around 4pm (after we left Camden park to go have lunch & quickly loaded our things into the room so we could head back to the park. Our 1st impression of the room was wow...we can't believe they actually think this room is fit to be rented. This room was dirty to say the least, seriously (see pics below). I immediately removed the bedspreads because God knows what is on them. We checked the beds & furnishings for bed bugs & surprisingly none were found on the bed or surroundings. I seriously think all these folks do in the way of cleaning this place is wiping the sink out, replacing the towels, change the bed sheets & maybe run the vacuum. THAT is seriously all I see that was done. There is clear evidence that tubs are never routinely scrubbed(we would never shower here) the toilets are not being cleaned, the toilet paper dispenser was broke & on the floor behind the toilet & there are huge holes around the dispenser, there was mold all around the bathroom ceiling, the doors & door frames are very dirty, the floors are not mopped, the furniture not dusted, mirrors still have "clean me" written on them by another person in the dust that was still visible for us to read. There are cobwebs in every corner, the smoke detector is falling out of the ceiling, the batteries in the TV remote were duct taped in, the lampshades are so old the plastic is completely break off & deteriorating on the inside, the front door is NOT securely locking in my opinion. It has one twist lock on the handle & a simple chain. NO deadbolt or real lock of any kind. Real key entry. The only highlights were the air-conditioner worked great on this 95+ degree day, the beds were semi-soft & sleep-able but falling apart (the box spring fabric is all stained & ripping off. We never once saw a housekeeping cart anywhere in site though....ever. I wiped down the toilet seat/handle & sink & remote for the TV & door handles with my sanitizing wipes & told the kids not to bother anything else. We were there to sleep only. Period. After going back to the park & returning to the hotel at 10:00pm we noticed 3+ males sitting out in front of the room next door to us with there table & chairs out drinking & partying. I nonchalantly made a comment out loud to the kids as we got out of the car to be quiet when they entered our room...that "daddy was sleeping" (even though daddy was not there, but I did not want to appear to be just 2 vulnerable women & 2 kids all alone) Knowing what a crappy lock the door had, I stuck a cheap magnetic door alarm buzzer on the door that I picked up at the dollar store before we returned, so if someone did try to enter the room it would startle them plus awaken us. We tucked the kids in & prayed for the best. Had I not felt confident in my ability to care for my family had anyone stepped out of line, I would not have stayed there. But with my martial arts abilities, my taser & pepper spray by the bedside I was confident I could handle any problems quickly. Thankfully I didn't have to. During the early morning hours I watched several more males just milling around the parking lot shirtless, shoeless, pants 1/2 falling down etc in the parking lot. We thankfully had a quiet night, decent sleep & left out promptly before checkout. I do have to say we will not be back ever. The clerk/owner although was very kind, and this really could be a decent looking motel if it were properly cared for & cleaned up & not used as a live-in party place for drifters (just my opinion). Unless you have no other choice you may want to chose anywhere else but here. read more
