This guy either did not want this job or just didn't give a F***. Over half of the pieces of trim…read moreare on with the unfinished side out. So there are barcode stickers and marks all over our trim. For the quality of work he did I could have done it myself and probably looked better. Would have saved us $2000.

Found contractor through Home Depot Pro Referral. Started out well enough. Was prompt to reach out,…read moreget by to look at basement finish project and give us a bid. We voiced reservations about his being out of Hays, KS (2.5 hours away) but were reassured "we do this all the time". Contract stated work schedule of Monday-Thursday full days and reduced day on Friday. Worked few full days and had to go back to Hays frequently mid-week. This a one man operation (not a crew), with inexperienced wife as helper. She sat in truck a lot. FAR from having up-to-date equipment (as profile states), he showed up lacking basic tools and had to borrow from us (compressor, extention cord, batteries for electrical line checker device). Did not clean up daily, nor fully at end of project ("truck too full" to dispose of debris). We had to use our normal trash pick up for several weeks to get rid of it all. He did not utilize all those trips back to Hays for this purpose. Disregarded very specific design request for bathroom tile layout due to lack of standard tools (no hole bit ("too expensive") or wet saw ("they don't work"). Told homeowner that it was his "executive decision" (as "professional") to make an UNAUTHORIZED design change without consulting ANYONE. Electrical outlets not fully tested prior to hanging drywall. One wasn't wired, resulting in unsightly tear-out and hasty patching of drywall. Drywall has multiple obvious defects: visible tape in ALL corners, messy cuts around 50% of outlet/switch boxes, inconsistent knockdown, gobs and gouges. This is an UNprofessional contractor with low standards and work ethic; the kind that gives contractors a bad name. AFTER we viewed his work (did he?) contractor offered to come back and correct, but only if we would take photos and send them. Honestly, "fixing" would require tear out of shower tile, replacing concrete backerboard (at contactor's expense), refunding $$ paid for WORK AND ALL WASTED MATERIAL and leaving space ready for a QUALIFIED tile installer, as well as extensive attention to drywall in every room. NOTE: Homeowner was having health issues during the last days of work and contractor was explicitly asked to communicate with spouse ONLY. Contractor disregarded this serious request and called sleeping spouse anyway, arguing and disrupting needed rest. Contractor has positive reviews elsewhere, so we initially felt confident hiring him. BUT, after this experience, we want others to be aware. Some aspects of work seem okay, but we are yet to be finished with project, so we may see more issues. Too much money spent for sloppy work.
