It seems you are not interested in the elderly as there are loads of self serve checkouts, and they are all near the exit. I find there are not even many places to sit either while I wait for my husband to checkout at the other end of the shop. I feel you may not have considered any of what I have related to you, so thought I would tell you what many older folk have discussed and agreed with me. Mrs Ockwell

This is one of the biggest ASDA's in the UK. It has everything you could possibly need. The shelves…read moreare always stocked and with it being a 24hour store, its fantatsic for those midnight munchies or if you work ridiculous shifts, like me, its great for doing the shopping on the way home late at night. They do sometimes have some real good reduced price bargains around 23:00. The cafe also has some good bargains food wise which help fill the gap when you decide on an impromptu shopping session. The store itself is not the prettiest and can sometimes look quite scruffy, however being such a big store, it is understandable and ASDA offer cheaper shopping, they pull their customers back with the reduced prices. All in all this Walmart store has everything one could ever need under one roof. There are many roll back price bargains on offer all the time and generally their prices are cheaper than most of their competitors.

I had some clue that this Waitrose existed, thanks to Mr. Snarky, however, I had never been to it…read more One night we drove by it and I saw one of the buses that stops just outside. So after wandering about one day, waiting for Mr. Snarky to finish at work so we could head back to Bolton, I decided to take the bus out to Waitrose after looking up that they had a cafe that I could perch in. My experiences with Waitrose haven't been very many as I have often been in towns that don't have a Waitrose. However, this one is impressive and makes me wish this was down the street from the apartment. Firstly, this one is on the canal with seating outside. It was a gorgeous day and a really good move on Waitrose's part as those walking along the canal may stop in for coffee and cake. There is a juice/smoothie bar at the front of the store as you enter while there is a bakery with coffee shop at the back of the store. There is a little bar area where you can sit and enjoy or just take a break from shopping. The shop offers a nice variety of items, but yes, some of it is a bit pricier than the discount stores. However, you are probably more likely to find those specialty items you need to make that recipe you saw on t.v. here than in one of those discount stores... so pros and cons. There is a small toiletry area, but no housewares, etc. As I was walking through the beverage and alcohol aisle, I did notice a small "bar" where it looks like there might be wine tasting??? It was hard to see as there were a number of men in suits crowded around, but I swear they were having a late afternoon drink. There are self checkout kiosks if you prefer those, but it seemed like the majority of Waitrose customers prefer the staffed tills. Free loos through the seating area of the cafe. The cafe does offer different desserts than the bakery at the back of the store and they also offer hot food. You can sit inside... or you can sit outside, overlooking the canal. The set up is really quite nice. I took my tea outside to one of the picnic tables along the canal and admired the plants and gardening items they had on sale outside. Love this store and wish it was my regular store!

Whilst Waitrose food isn't the cheapest in my experience it is very good quality with good ideas for meals too. I would say it's possible to get reasonably priced products there & some of their offers are easily as good as the other major supermarkets. It is definitely worth a try.

However as this place is so huge you'll probably still find what you are looking for. Since I've lived in Oxford I've come here about a dozen or so times. We tend to try and stick to mid evening as the crowds die down a bit and they are not quite into their horrible restocking mode. Generally you can find fresh products and a wide selection of near everything (do not come to this Tescos if you are looking for home goods/ electronics/ etc). The prices as it is Tescos are decent. The staff are generally friendly as long as you're not getting the end of shift crowd. PROS: Large selection Good quantity of stock Price CONS: Gets ultra busy Leftover stock can be of bad quality Other side of the ring road.

It's got a huge range of items, although no adult clothing (other than underwear) or much in the way of electronics/media/toys, unlike even bigger stores. For groceries, though, it's got a lot to offer. Fruit and veg are of good quality and usually well-stocked. The deli and fresh fish counters offer a lot of choice, and they even have a large 'Polish food' section. They have two 'car trolleys' which amuse small (and big) kids greatly, and make the shopping trip easier with children who are too big for the trolley seats but too small to walk all the way around without whining. Staff are friendly and helpful, and offers on food are good value.

Probably a good thing that I waited until most of the renovation was completed as I was going to…read morerate this Tesco a lot lower. However, the renovation is great! It always seems really busy, even later at night so clearly the size and the renovation were much needed. This Tesco has a Giraffe attached to it as well as a cafe upstairs. So if it takes you all day to get through this massive store, you have some options for lunch/dinner. This really is a one-stop shop: kitchen supplies, office supplies, toys, clothes (upstairs), toiletries, and of course food. They have a lovely selection of bakery items, the new deli and meat counters look great. I also really like their foreign foods section. At a lot of stores you get a shelf or two with just a couple of items, but here you get large sections with a large selection of items. Of course the American section caught my (and Mr. Snarky's) eye and while some of the items I have never bought in the states and am a bit disappointed that that is what is being exported to other countries around the world, there are a number of items that I am excited about. In fact, I plan to make Mr. Snarky a Thanksgiving meal and there are a number of items in the section that will make that possible! There is just loads and loads of selection and chances are, if you cannot find it elsewhere, come here. I will say that it does sometimes get quite crowded with lots of customers plus the carts the staff use to stock shelves, making it a little more difficult to navigate the store. And check out is a bit chaotic, but if you have a Tesco Club Card, they do have a 'Scan As You Go' option so you don't have to wait in the queue. They also have a few cash machines and there is a petrol station as well. While I enjoy farmers markets, this Tesco does appeal to my American supermarket side!

This one is however the biggest Tesco is Swindon. it stocks a large range of food and also a large range of clothes, including Florence and Fred. They also have a good selection of DVD's, games, electrical items such as cameras and TV's. There is an escalator to go up to the first floor, that you can even take your trolley on. I like Tesco because you can get clubcard points there, to use of days out vouchers. There is a big car park, with plenty of space and in the carpark are recycling facilites for bottles, cans etc.
