There are the normal offers as you would expect from a Sainsbury's, and unlike some supermarkets they ensure that the shelves doe contain the items on offer. Outside the store there is a large carpark, which you do have to pay to use however you get this back off your shopping providing you spend over a certain amount (I think it's £5.00), so basically you are guaranteed it back. A great supermarket where you can normally get everything you need for your grocery shopping, as well as a bit of a treat from the clothing range.

You can also pick up your orders from Tesco direct here so you don't have to pay postage and have the convience of setting your own time - they notify you when the item has been delivered to the store and you print off the receipt and take it in at a time that suits you.

Downstairs is mainly food and drink and there is soooo much choice. You will also find gifts and partyware, toys and seasonal stock downstairs, along with a cafe and tobacco/lottery counter. Up the moving walkway and you find a massive clothing department, which stocks ranges for men, women and children as well as lingerie and footwear. There's also homewares and DIY goods and a HUGE electrical departments which goods include LCD TVs and kitchen appliances as well as accessories. The car park is massive so there's always enough spaces. I have been told there is now an opticians in the Tescos aswell!

Most of the staff are friendly & helpful & their are a few that are unapproachable & dont want to help customers. there is 1 security guard inpaticular who is power crazy & takes his job to serious. he is a bully & has stated that he will bar me from the shop if he sees my son in the shop with me because he is barred. but he has barred him for life! I'm in Asda every day what gives him the right to say that he will bar me from the shop too. he is slating my character. by the way it's the tall one with ginger hair who I'm talking about. All the other security guards are sound & they're not power crazy like he is.

I was so surprised to receive a notice of exceeding parking time and that I needed to pay a fine £40 or £70 if I delayed beyond 14days, the letter was dated 9th May, I received it today 16th May.   I have paid the £40 but I am deeply upset by this charge when all I was doing was shopping in your store. I think bona-fide shoppers should be exempt being charged penalty charges, otherwise all you are doing is curtailing  some one's shopping activities and considering the store has clothing and household goods as well as groceries shopping can take some time. This experience has put me off Tesco stores, you come across as so friendly but this impersonal approach using Horizon is very much at odds with the general friendly Tesco persona. Surely with Clubcard data it is possible to know whether someone is a genuine shopper and should be allowed free shopping time after all, more time spent in store could be more sales.

Before you enter there is a Timpsons and a Giraffe. Internally, the atmosphere is bright, clean, shiny and noisy from all the shoppers bustling around. There has been efforts to make the architecture look aesthetically pleasing from the outside but internally, aside from some high windows at the entrance, you feel like you are in a giant warehouse. As you enter, you are immediately marketed the deals of the day, to the left is a customer service desk with ladies who are away chatting to each other. Beyond the desk is another entrance to the restaurant, Giraffe. Deeper into the store is the food-to-go section which is actually pretty impressive with the salad bar, help-yourself-curry and hot sandwiches, a Costa coffe dispenser and a few self-scans (I've never seen this set up in any other store).To the right of the entrance is a serious-looking but friendly security gaurd, a postbox and a cool machine that prints off your vouchers. The general layout of the store is pretty much the same as other Tesco stores but each section is like it's own store! The clothing section has a massive range and once you turn 90 degrees to the right, you are waking down the middle of the store with food on the right (in order of fesh, refrigerated, frozen, cupboard, then drinks) and general merchandise followed by homeware, heath and beauty and home cleaning on the left as you progress deeper into the store. Beyond these ailses there's an opticians, a pharmacy and other services that I can't remember.... Beyond the food aisles on the right, you are met with lots of checkouts, self-checkouts and self-scan guns closer to the exit. Once you have finished your shopping, within the store, you can grab a bite at Subway, a card from Card Factory, get your haircut or relax with a cup of tea at the cafe. Overall, the checkout and customer service staff are not all that friendly or helpful but they do get the job done and aside from the sheer size (hence more stock and variety especially in terms of World Food sections), this Tesco is just the same as all the others. I am however told that during Christmas trading hours, the staff go around on roller blades to get around faster. Now, that's something to go see.

It's really just the basics, food and general grocery items. The staff are helpful and friendly, and the prices are good. It's handy if you happen to be in Billingham and need to stock up on food, but really I'd only use it for top up shopping, not the main weekly shop.

If you visit the store at an unsociable hour (i.e. when most people are in bed) then expect to navigate around the large stock trolleys as the staff do most of the re-stocking in the 'wee hours'. They have a good selection of free-from/vegan food (which is all I really care about!) and good value on fruit and vegetables, it's just a shame it's not closer to the bus stops otherwise I'd shop here more often. There is, of course, online delivery but I don't think the stock comes from this store as I can order certain vegan products to be delivered to my home that are never in stock at the Redcar store. I have memories of this store dating back about four years ago, this store hasn't changed much since then but still remains a decent branch of Tesco and probably their better and more central store in Durham, as they also have an Express store which is quite close to the train station. This store is quite a large one, it seems to be all over one floor, unlike my local Tesco Metro in Manchester city centre which is over two floors. The store stocks a satisfactory selection of drinks and an impressive selection of essentials, even including a selection of games and showcase mobile phones, yet "cheap and budget" mobiles rather than the likes of the Iphone. The staff here also seemed nice enough. This store is one of the larger stores in Durham which I went in on my recent visit to the city, and with a decent selection of groceries and even games, yet not a big enough selection to do a weekly shop. this store is still above average and deserves a solid three-star rating.

This is a really big shop in the heart of Thornaby Town Centre. The store was refurbished about a year ago and now it has a nice new cafe area, along with a really good clothing section (much bigger than it was before) and nice new fitting rooms. This branch is all on one floor, but sells just about everything you could possibly need - magazines, clothing, CDs, DVDs, games, food, groceries, laundry and cleaning products, etc., etc., etc. It also has a pharmacy, and dedicated counters for deli and pizza etc. The pizza is my favourite! They will make up a pizza to your own specification, so we always get half and half, which is really yummy and (of course) really good value. I have always found the staff here really helpful and friendly, they always seem really keen to help, and happy in their work. One of the things I particularly love(d) about this branch of Asda, was shopping there on market day. Because it's not one of those out of town stores, you can have a wander around the market and the other town centre shops, then go and do the big weekly shop in Asda. All in all, it made for a very pleasant morning. However, Thornaby itself is undergoing a massive regeneration at the moment (2008), so what used to be the town centre car park (see, I told you I'd come back to the subject of parking!) is now a building site. You have to walk much further to get to the handful of market stalls who still bother to turn up, and it's all a bit of a disappointment. However, I hope that once the regeneration is complete it will all be sparkly and new and lovely again! Because of the regeneration and the resulting closure of the town centre car park, I have been forced to use Asda's dedicated underground car park (yes, still more about parking!). On the plus side, it's well-lit, and there are lifts and walkways direct to the shop. On the downside, the actual parking spaces are tiny! You have to squeeze your car into the space, and each space has a big concrete post next to it (and judging from the paint scrapings on them all, it looks like a lot of other people have problems with this, too).
