Manchester Superstore

I've been on a mission to discover more of north Manchester recently. Cheetham Hill is one of the…read morereas which holds a lot of interest for me as a foodie with Cheetham hill road being a great example of multi-cultural Manchester. As well as being another central hub of Manchester's south Asian community it's also adjacent to Manchester's Jewish community. This Superstore sits inbetween the two communities and is buzzing with activity all week long. It's probably one of the biggest stores of its kind in the city. The summertime is a perfect time to visit, for me at least because it's mango season! Honey mangos are shipped in all the way from Pakistan and are priced very reasonably considering they are HEAVENLY! There's also a butchers in house and the store houses a library of herbs and spices. In short there are stores like this littered aross the city in smaller denominations. And in all honesty they probably cater for all the things that are available here. But if you want that remote spice from a youtube recipe or want a faluda flavour ice cream like I do, this is the only place to go.

Wow, no review for the largest branch of Manchester Superstore - says a lot about the current…read moredemographic of Yelp reviewers in Manchester! There are actually two large premises of Manchester Superstore directly opposite each other on either side of Cheetham Hill Road, and if you are into these kind of stores then you will need to check them both out! It may be the case that the one on the left as you travel out of town is more for a quick shop, but it also has a bunch of stuff upstairs - cookware, and kebab shop consumables! Across the road - on the right hand side of the road as you travel out of town - is a building of impressive architecture, which seems to be the wholesale premises, although it is open to the general public, no problem, and this is where I will be shopping from now on. I go for fresh produce, and freshness was above average plus I think Cheetham Hill prices are a bit lower. Just the usual routine for me - stocked up with okra, drumstick, karela, fresh chickpeas, plus fresh herbs which are the bargain of the century at 2 huge bunches for £1. Always good for a bit of ethnic atmosphere. Not quite as much of a feeling of a well-oiled machine as say Worldwide in Rusholme and not as busy at the tills, but the manager is a bit more friendly here on my visit, and opened up another till to get me through quickly. Really love my Desi supermarkets!

After reading the reviews I have just realised how indeed ASDA has gone downhill. Long gone are the…read moredays when they where part of the Wallmart Group. Treated like a "shoplifter" in there ASDA PILSWORTH STORE and its Store Manager should be totally ashamed of his attitufe and his staff. Egoistic attitude. Remember who is paying your wages the customer! Had a bag of shopping from ICELAND (on the same complex) with ASDA. Took into the store with me as needed some bits from ASDA. No manned tills avilable so had to queue like everyone else as so short staffed to pay for my goods. On the way out was stopped by there mini Hilter Security Team asking what is inside my ICELAND bag! 1. It is illegal for you to request to search someone bag unless you have witness someone stealing (that was not the case). 2. It is illegal to look into customers bags or to frisk customers without the attendance of the POLICE. Next time you get a police officer in before you search anyone. Well it was indeed FUN to pull my shopping apart and show you what was on offer at ICELAND STORES. And your security team cant be exactly of much quality if they think ICELAND FROZEN SAUSAGE ROLLS are sold in ASDA (that he stated they where???). Since when does ASDA sells ICELAND STORES products I said? Had my receipt from ICELAND (next door) to show you but did inform you what you was doing was ILLGEAL. Next calling there Customer Services was a joke. They are based in INDIA. The Indian Asda Call Centre stated that apparently ASDA does not have stores in Manchester? Hrm the 2nd biggest city of the UK????? Twitter Support was just so shocking refuse to give out the Head Office number in Leeds and asked what store in Leeds did this happen? CERTAINLY WILL NOT BE SHOPPING THERE AGAIN. My hard earned money will be going to another retailer I will refuse to shop at ASDA and any of this sister companies. THEY SIMPLY TREAT CUSTOMERS LIKE SCUM (when they have done nothing wrong but shop in there stores).

This Asda store is in Failsworth, opposite Park 66 retail park where the old cinema was…read more This store is quite large, although not as big as the Manchester City stadium branch. As with Asda stores nationwide, they have a Seattles best coffee machine here, they is one just outside the cafe, where I got mine from and inside the cafe. I found this coffee to taste actually quite good, especially compared to the disastorous one I got from a machine from the same company at the Sport City store, where they was no Caramel syrup and just tasted weird and dreadful. They was a nice amount of hazzlenut in it and the coffee was quite nice and creamy at this branch. This store has a Pharmacy, cafe and also numerous pizzas like for Pizza and Chicken. The staff seemed nice in the store in general, the checkout woman was quite nice and even let me take a free bag for life, it is a nice design with the Quality Street brand advertised on it, they replace it free when it breaks so I have got a good deal. Even 6p for such a strong, reusable bag is nice and Asda's policy makes it certainly a bag for life. This store has some good stock, with quite a few brands of Gluten Free sausage however the Free From area in general is quite poor, especially in the frozen although I did manage to find an Amy's Kitchen Mushroom soup, which I rarely see in supermarkets. This store has a nice design in some parts especially near the Pizza and Chicken counter however I find it dissapointing that the yogurt drinks are seperate from the yogurts and the sausages are away from the meat in general, hence much different from the typical layout. I would prefer it to follow more of a traditional ASDA layout though as although it was nice in some parts, it wasn't in others and it was confusing. They was quite a few samples on my visit, one with Fruit and Crossiants, another with Cheese and Crackers, and another with Pancakes and Blueberries, apart from the fruit they was nothing gluten free on sample, The checkout woman did offer me some cheese on its own but due to cross contamination, I had to refuse as she was spreading the cheese on the crackers on the knife, she picked mine up with, without washing it, If I would of ate it it could of made me very ill. This store even has a Thomson holidays in This store isn't the best, it does have quite a big range but the layout being so different to normal Asda's which really confuses me and the poor free from ranges and cafe means it isn't the perfect supermarket to shop at, also I am still angry don't have a loyalty card and it makes me want to shop elsewhere. This is why I feel this store deserves just 2 stars.
