Whatever side of town you live in, I'm sure, if you're like me, that you have your "go-to" place to…read moreeat-in or for ordering take-away, whenever you have the case of the "can't-be-stuffed-cooking-dinner-tonight". Vietnamese Mint is practically my second home. Service is friendly, and the menu is simple, affordable, and always delicious. Sides are $6, Mains (soups and rice dishes), come in Regular $10 or Large $12, and they also offer "ice cream" for $4. Have been here many times, and have always come away satisfied and feeling full. On the occasion that I am more inclined to "take-away", it's best to ring ahead, and your order will be ready in no time to be picked up. My favourite dishes, are the regular Chicken Noodle Soup, the Lemongrass chicken salad, Vietnamese spring rolls, and the Lemongrass marinated porkchop with rice, spring rolls, salad, & fried egg (for only $12). The latter dish is a "special" so it may not become permanent on the menu. I think the word is slowly getting out, that this place is great value, and serves amazing food, because it does appear a lot busier (albeit slowly) that when I first came here when it opened. I feel lucky to have a place I can rely on to never disappoint. Vietnamese mint rocks!

This is not fine dining so don't expect any glamour, however this place does honest, great value Vietnamese food. Tonight my wife and I ordered the chicken rice paper rolls, the Vietnamese spring rolls, the chicken noodle soup, and the spring rolls vermicelli salad. All dishes were tasty, and we have a enough left over for lunch for me for tomorrow :). What I really liked was being provided with bean shoots, fresh lime, and fresh basil in a separate bag with the soup as this added a real zing. Also they had home made chilli sauce that you could pack and take home. This is the type of place you definitely want to see stick around - the guys that work there are quick and really down to earth so please give this place a try.

At first glance I thought this rather plain looking cafeteria-stye eatery near the bus-station in…read morethe Myer centre was probably just another one of those Asian greasy spoons where you can fill a takeaway container with fried rice, sweet and sour everything, beef and black bean etc. But then I realised their bain marie housed some really interesting and authentic looking Yum Cha style delicacies and of course, there's the titular Shanghainese noodles. They also do the popular bubble tea and a range of frappes, but when I visited the selection was a bit limited as they were out of quite a few of the flavoured syrups. The two ladies who served me (I got the impression the older one was the mother and the younger one her daughter) were very apologetic and lovely about the whole thing. In the end I settled on the 'peppermint black tea' with 'pearl jelly'. I also picked up a snack, one of their intriguing 'tea leaf eggs', which as the lady described is an egg hard-boiled in tea. While the effect of the tea infusion could be seen in the egg's discolouration, I'm not sure if I could identify the tea flavour on a blind taste. It was yummy though. I'd love to go back and try the noodles and some of their other bain marie treats like their dumplings, whole grilled fish, red bean buns and maybe even chicken feet if I'm feeling adventurous.

Best authentic Chinese in the city…read more Is it a happy coincidence that this place is directly opposite the bus-stop for the main Sunnybank bus? It can be a little tricky to find if you're not specifically looking for it or you're catching a 130, but when you do find it you will be rewarded. They have yum cha stuff in the bain maries including various types of steamed buns and they're the biggest BBQ porn buns I've ever had! They also serve noodles, and meal sets including roast duck or pork. As per habbit when at Chinese eateries, I ordered the roast duck meal set and a pork bun. To be honest, I would've been satisfied with just the pork bun it was that big, but it was good to try more stuff. The roast duck came with succulent duck, a huge bowl of rice, steamed vegetables and a bowl of soup for around $13, the duck was so god damn good, saucy and tender and the meal was excellent value. They shop is extremely authentic and it shows in their customer base; only white guy in the entire dining room ;-). If you're on the ground floor of the myer centre and are going to settle for KFC or McDonald's, walk straight past them and head over for an awesome feed that will fill you up. Ps. Unlike a lot of the sushi joins in the city being run by Koreans, this place is Chinese run by Chinese

Fabulous Chinese and not just their famously consistent Peking duck…read more We experienced P&B as a large (15) group and were blown away by how well they kept up the dishes at this very busy time of year. Every dish from simple Rice to fresh seafood was excellent with their own unique flavours and components and not just a sauced variant of the same stuff. The very generous servings easily satisfied our hungry family group that ended the evening meal very happy and full of praise. Pine and Bamboo have been around for some time but deserve a visit for either a Chinese lunch or dinner. I would strongly recommend their Peking Duck pancakes followed by SAN Chow Bow but even the boring Sweet and Sour Pork is a winner amongst a huge range of specially crafted Chinese too. You will not be disappointed.

We ordered 2 course peking duck... the 2nd course was what I have always gotten.. the noodles. For those experienced in the peking duck tradition, the duck is carved and you wrap your pancakes with cucumber, shallot and hoisin sauce. Then the duck is taken away and the meat made into the various 2nd or 3rd courses. Well to my surprise, the duck noodles (2nd course) came out prior to the duck so they had used the meat of someone else's duck. When I questioned the waitress she said she would go ask and she never came back. We also asked to take the duck we ordered home so we could boil soup etc after all we had paid for the duck... when we got home, we noted not only was the duck raw inside, the meat was carved out and obviously used for someone else. While it pains me to share this review as I love peking duck I feel that a duck so raw could not have been that safe to eat even though the skin was crispy and with a heavy heart, I dont think I will be back for a while. Serving the 2nd course first also gives me the impression they have frozen duck meat ready to be added to the next courses which is peking duck blasphemy.
