I asked the technician to perform some preventative maintenance on the existing hardware. He brought it to my attention that the springs were original from 1991 when the house was built. I then had the springs replaced along with a few door rollers with worn out bearings. The only original part that remains is the panels. I essentially have a new door at an amazing price. He started by reviewing some "garage maintenance and repair theory" before he even looked at the door. (That's sets the buyers expectation of what's to come.) He gave me a "deal" on "inspecting" the second door so I agreed to pay $60 before any work was done. He replaced 8 rollers on the main door but advised that I might want to consider a new spring and a cable. The spring was $1,000 but he offered an instant discount down to $700. A huge red flag. The cable, which is actually a belt, was an additional $200-$300. Plus they charge you for additional random parts. And let's not forget the visit fee. I called a local tech for a further evaluation. He looked at the work that the A1 tech performed and pionted out that he didn't notice, or bother with, all the hinges that support the rollers. They were all loose and one of the main reasons for the noisy door. The local tech also quoted me almost half the price for the same new spring which I didn't need to begin with. He tightened all hinges and lubed both doors and they are now quiet and run smoothly. He charged me $79. We paid $350 for a visit, some parts, and rollers that we didn't need. I'm glad we stopped there. The moral of the story, don't get lured down the rabbit hole by a coupon. Shop, ask questions, and go with your gut. Avoid the big box guys whenever you can. I guess someone needs to pay for those TV ads and that fleet of nice trucks.

Well, we've lived in our new house for a little over a year, and a few days ago our garage door…read moreopener went on the fritz. It wouldn't close, just would go down about 8"--once about halfway, then back up, like there was an obstruction, but there wasn't. It was installed by Action Garage Door, so I gave them a call. The woman that answered had me go through some trouble shooting, and showed me how to bypass the sensors and close the door by holding the button down. It was determined that we needed a technician to come out, and the earliest appointment was in two days. Fair enough. I was given a four hour window, from 12-4 pm. At 11:35, Cody called me up and asked if he could come over, that he was 10 minutes away. I said heck yeah! That was nice, him coming before the four-hour window even started. Cody was a nice young man who got right to work diagnosing the problem. Turned out it was a faulty wire. Surprising, for a two-year-old house that was new when we bought it and only lived in for a little over a year. Cody couldn't tell me what might have caused the problem, but he offered me a fix--external wiring to bypass the problem wire to the two door sensors. He made it look clean and hardly noticeable. He also lubricated our door rollers. My wife and I are back in business. The cost was very reasonble considering that he was at our home for 90 minutes. Two experiences now with Action Garage door and we've been pleased both times. We will continue to utilize them for all our garage door needs.

I asked for an invoice and was told his wife did those on the weekends. I called twice after that and sent an email requesting an invoice. Always an excuse. Our verbal quote was for door replacement and repairing the vinyl trim around the door opening. When door was done, I reminded him that the vinyl trim was to be done also. He said he had the material, but nobody to install it. He was looking to hire someone. That was in August '25. It is Jan. '26 and we have not heard anything more from him.
