The staff is beyond nice and so professional that you immediately feel that you have nothing to worry about.... and then, you get to meet the nicest doctor on the Planet... Dr. James Van Horn. A warm smile and a hug. Your worries melt away. My right hip was replaced by Dr. Van Horn at the Grants Pass Surgery center. They too require a huge shout out for courtesy and professionalism. I walked in the door at 5:45 AM and by 7:30 I was in surgery. By 9:30 AM, I was awake and eating a sandwich... I took a pain pill, got up and walked through the center, went to the restroom and back to recovery. I had a little more to eat and was then released by 11:30 AM. The pain was all but Non-Existent. I made it home and was walking in my Neighborhood by 1:00 PM! My neighbors asked me when I had surgery. When I said 5 hours ago... they were amazed. I had to use a walker for 3 days and a cane for a couple of weeks, not so much for pain but for safety. By the Sunday following the surgery (just 3 days later), I stopped taking the pain medication and had no real pain at all. I do recommend that you do follow the Pre-Op and the Post-Op Physical Therapy very carefully!!! Keep your leg elevated and iced for two weeks when you are not walking. Also, on your own, exercise a heavily several weeks in advance... it is well worth your time and you can make it fun... remember that, you are getting a "New lease on life",,, Don't waste it! Thank you Dr. Van Horne for removing 100% of my hip pain and letting my have my life back! I haven't been this happy in several years. Glenn Woodbury Eagle Point, Oregon

(2) Had sensations down my leg off and on day and night of like a hot electrical shock, with tingling. (3) Up on standing I was unable to start walking for a few moments. I would try to, but my leg wouldn't work. (4) I had as much pain in my hip as I had before my first surgery and I still limped as bad on it as I did before, in spite of how hard I tried not to. (5) I have been unable to do a lot of the things I normally did all the time, before my first surgery, like mowing the lawns, doing a little work on my pickup, and things with my horses, which was my hobby. Also I couldn't do home improvement projects like I had in the past. (6) Problems standing up and setting down. (Always) (7) Hard getting in and out of car. Muscles are stiff and must loosen up before stepping away. (Always) (11) Hurts to walk. (12) Can't bend over to pick something up off from floor. Back, legs and hips hurt when trying to do so. (13) Back is always sore. (14) Can't put sock on right foot or tie shoe without help. (15) Legs swell, gets burning sensation and sometimes itch real bad. Sometimes I draw blood from scratching. (16) Bursitis in left hip. (17) I've noticed that my right foot sometimes turns in when I'm walking. Maybe due to tightening of leg muscles. (18) Lots of headaches. (19) Laying on my left side will cause my hip to ache. (20) One of the most challenging aspects of of the entire experience has been trying to stay in a good frame of mind. I have never liked to see people set around and feel sorry for themselves, so I have dealt with it on a day to day basis. It is now 2/4/2026 "Note, after all these years I still suffer leg pains and skin problems" In total I have had 3 hip replacements, 2 on my right side and 1 on my left.

His answer to my pain was a series of four cortisone shots over 7 months and telling me I had arthritis and take 2 Tylenol for "discomfort". I finally sought a second opinion. My new Orthopedist looked at the SAME x-ray and within 10 minutes I was re-diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff AND my bicep had seperated from the bone. I can only imagine that for some reason he received compensation to try a new unit. It was much too small for my stature and it's split my femur when he installed it. They did not catch this problem for 2 weeks and the device rocked around inside of my femur until it snapped it completely in half. He was thin on a four-week vacation in Peru so he hired an underling to work on me. That person wasn't qualified and destroyed the femur again. Two months after that operation the metal plate the installed snapped again so now I had a donut floating around inside of my leg. The pain was excruciating and I spent two years and five operations to be able to barely walk. I laid in the hospital for a total of over 60 days and about 90 days in rehab. I haven't been able to work since so the last two years of my life have been zero income. Tort reform laws in Oregon make it impossible to sue a doctor so there is nothing to be gained from this. I haven't even gotten a phone call or an apology. I would never ever let doctor ho in Medford at Southern Oregon Orthopedics or dr. James Van Horn at Paragon Orthopedics operate on me or relative or friend. They have destroyed my life and there's nothing that I can do about it. Stay the heck away from these companies. There is an expert in Medford Oregon and if you get hold of me personally I will talk to you about it. If you need more information I have a 31 page PowerPoint program with all the operational reports, X-rays and descriptions from three doctors of what they did wrong. I beg of you, tell everyone that you know never to go to these two surgeons.

Check out this review of Bear Valley Medical Clinic, LLC originally posted on Google Maps…read more I will be seen on my next visit to Bear Valley Medical Clinic( post relocation of their office) for an appointment with Daniel Tibbits my PCP, whom has been very proactive and thorough since taking over my care. His approach to prepare a well developed plan of care to address all stated issues/concerns was most impressive. I have experienced nothing less than professionalism efficiency and extreme satisfaction with each appointment. MUCH of what makes this such a top notch group is the staff, who can't do enough to ensure all your needs are met in a timely and pleasant way. And I can speak from experience as a patient that was exasperated over a couple Rx refill incidents that while not the the fault of the Clinical staff ( was the part on the other end ). I found the girls (not to be a name dropper Amanda and Katie) at Bear Valley willing to assist me to the conclusion and admittedly my repeated calls had to have had them as frustrated as I. Yet conversely...never showed. This group is indeed a fine example of medical ethic and knowledge combined with business savvy. I commend those who serve, as well as who owns and/or run the practice. As a side note I am a nurse of 42yrs therefore, in the know, and ashamedly aware of possessing the common eccentricity of idiopathic noncompliance. So for someone who may be so used to being the caregiver and not so much paying attention to my own well-being, I am truly most content and appreciative of being associated with and in the care of this competent crew aboard this tightly run ship. Ahoy and may you have smooth sailing and much success in your new location.
