In January, 2025 I was seen my Dr. Peter Adesman for a very overdue colonoscopy. During my initial office visit with Dr. Adesman I reported that I had a growth on the inside of my anus and wanted him to palpate it. I Also explained to him that I was concerned as I have a very significant history of HPV warts and Anal neoplasia. He performed a digital rectal exam and told me not to worry about it as it was a hemorrhoid. 1/2025 Shortly after this first visit, I went in for a colonoscopy with Dr. Adesman and asked him again to please palpate this as I was concerned given my history. I asked him to please take a physical look at it while he was doing the colonoscopy. At the end of the colonoscopy, he said my colon was completely without any polyps and that this growth in my anus was just a simple hemorrhoid. Over the course of a couple months I noticed the growth had increased significantly in size. I chose to set up a primary care visit with Dr. Merbler at Asante Family Medicine. Even though I explained to Dr. Merbler, my significant history and the fact that this growth had changed significantly and become more bumpy and hard, he agreed with Dr. Adesman that it was a hemorrhoid. I informed him that I disagree and wanted another opinion from a colorectal specialist. I then saw Dr. Nelson, a colorectal specialist, as I noticed it was continuing to grow in size, bumpiness and hardness. Dr. Nelson, immediately, upon doing a DRE, noted that this was not a hemorrhoid and that he was quite concerned. He did not want to wait-and-see with this issue and so scheduled me for a tumor excision. The pathology report was quite difficult to determine and had to be sent to 3 different pathology labs, which all reported it as a unique, rare and aggressive anal cancer. If I were the typical patient I would have accepted Dr. Peter Adesman's opinion, which would have put me in an even more terrible place than I currently find myself. In fact, I also consulted with an oncologist at OHSU who said; "You have a very nasty and aggressive cancer. If you wait any longer to treat this, and it goes into your lymph nodes, you will survive about a year." It is my understanding that a gastroenterologist who is performing colonoscopies is doing this for a very clear reason, to detect, biopsy, and advise regarding possible cancer. It is unbelievable to me that a senior gastroenterologist such as Dr. Peter Adesman, would miss such an aggressive cancer. It is also very surprising to me that a physician would want to take on the liability of making such a cursory diagnosis that couldn't be more devastating. If he had done his job and referred me to the appropriate person to dig deeper, I would not be dealing with an uncertain future. read more

This is one of the only Gastroenterology centers in the valley even still if an emergency appointment is missed you shall not be seen there again. I do understand that the time is not to be wasted but this is ridiculous! read more

In 2012, I went to Dr. Adam Mougey, because I had moved here from LA Area. I had been struggling with an issue of coughing, gagging, choking and puking for over a decade, and had been going from Dr. to Dr. to no avail. Hundreds of tests, and lots of I'm sorries. I moved here, and Dr. Mougey, got started. After what seemed like a year of tests, he found out that there is an area in my esophagus that gets no electricity for some reason. He was kind, caring, always uplifting. He has been my Dr. ever since. He has done my colonoscopies and taken care of me ever since. His PA Tajma is on it and always available to help and returns calls as fast as she is able with all the patients he now has to juggle. The rest of the office staff is all friendly and kind. Can I give a zero? Dr Winters is not a provider I will let see me again, I would rather risk a 5 hr drive in a critical condition than let this man give his opinions on literally anything. Not only that he's out there telling people we can't get GIs in the valley because their little ole wives won't move here. No, no one wants to work with him. He's awful, I have multiple complex and known issues confirmed in surgery and he patently refused to consider the requisite testing to protect my organs. He would rather risk malpractice than dare listen to a female with documentation from another female (highly specialized and qualified) surgeon. read more

Dr Winters and Colette Davis ruined my life. I never had bad heartburn in my entire life. They overprescribed medications according to my PCP and now I can't live without medications. This rating is for Dr. Gilroy and not the practice itself. I had an emergency UC flare and somehow was very luckily connected with Dr.Gilroy who is excellent, super smart, warm and female. I fortunately speak directly with her assistant and no longer have to go through what continues to be (based on reviews and my experience) burnt out front office staff. It's true that there aren't other choices in the rogue valley so if you need a GI in your medical orbit, you're stuck with this group. I went here a few years ago and overheard the doctor assigned to me complaining to a fellow doctor that he can't stand it when primary care doctors refer Oregon health plan patients to them. For whatever reason I don't know. But I went through with the endoscopy anyway even though I felt uncomfortable being there at that point and all I got was a pamphlet with no explanation except to take Prilosec. In the future I will travel out of the area to see a gastroenterologist. read more

I came here a few years ago and they ordered an upper endoscopy for me and found out I have gastritis. When the Dr. told me this, he just handed me a pamphlet and said have a good day and said to take some tums. I since went to a naturopath but still have flare ups and currently thinking I have pancreatitis. I am searching for another gastro specialist and realize this is the only one in Medford. Reading past reviews and having dealt with the staff, it seems that one could summarize this facility by stating if you can handle the admin/scheduling on the way in and the billing on the way out, you might have a decent experience. In dealing with the public, the true test of good employees is how they handle the situations that are difficult or out of the ordinary. It is NOT right to expect employees to deal with rudeness or attacks, but they need to realize that they are dealing with patients who are stressed and concerned and very worried about their health. The "good" ones understand that. Patients are one of the most difficult groups of people to work with. A good employee can empathize and make it apparent that they are there to HELP the patient and go to great lengths to seek solutions. They should not presume that they are gate keepers who are in control of the flow of people without regard for the reason those people are there - to get medical care with the emphasis on CARE. One can only hope that other gastroenterologists move into the area as the population continues to increase and give people a broader choice for care. If new arrivals did a good job, they'd likely take over most of the business in Medford. Bottom line: If I was affiliated with this practice and saw the number of negative reviews, there would be major concern about it and an overhaul done on the staff. A few bad reviews may be called typical for the internet. But this volume is an indicator that something is wrong. read more

on April 4, 2019 I met with Nikki Brown, NP with fecal incontinence and an inability to swallow....a fecal sample was taken, and 5 weeks later I was scheduled for an upper/lower GI...the lower GI being cancelled for some reason...I never heard the results of that appointment...learning months later (June) from a home visiting nurse that the doctor doing the upper GI had expanded my esophagus...but that did not "cure" the problem....also the fecal sample was never scheduled with the lab, so it just died. Over 4 months later (ever have fecal incontinence and inability to swallow, throwing up what you have tried to eat or drink?) after leaving a scathing assessment of their service, I received a phone message that they want to set me up for a lab test......say what? I quit their service .... I went to my primary physician who took a stool sample and by the next day reported to me that I did have a bacteria and prescribed a medication.....lets see...4 months and no help...2 days and a prescription....go figure.....who would you like to be served by? I will turn over my swallowing problem to my primary as well. I have never encountered such incompetent, inept, nor unconscionable service of any sort let alone from a medical provider. I would advise you to stay away from this outfit unless you want to put yourself dire risk. read more

I had my colonoscopy done here this last year and I have no complaints about the experience. The group class for the pre op was a good idea I thought; to hear others and their experiences helped me. I was given clear instructions about how to use the icky tasting drink and what to expect. Not fond of waking up at two and then again at four to drink all that. Not exactly the kind of clinic I would ever want to go back to. Provider I saw wanted in and out of my visit. Didn't really ask me any questions just went off of my chief complaint and didn't even feel around my stomach. She also told me all my recent blood work was normal but two other doctors mentioned it was extremely worrisome regarding an inflammatory test. So my time to take off work to see this provider was honestly a waste of time just to be told to take Miralax? Yea that should do it... not. read more

My review deals very little with the office staff, however, my only experience in the office, I found the staff very friendly, professional and helpful. There was no cost for my "Group Education" appointment. Since I've not received any of my outpatient bills yet, I can't speak for charges, etc. My doctor was Adam Mougey, and I have nothing but praise for him. He handled my procedure professionally and took the time to answer all of my questions. I liked the fact that I could schedule my procedure either at Rogue Regional Medical Center, Providence Medford Medical Center or the Surgery Center of Southern Oregon. This allowed me to schedule my procedure on a day that worked best for me. I would not hesitate to go back to Dr. Mougey and I would certainly recommend him to friends and family. read more

I called 50 hours before my appointment to R/S it as I have a conflicting appointment that is more pressing. They did not answer after I was on hold for over an hour. I left a message clearly stating who I was and when my appointment was as well as the time that it was that I was calling. They called me back 2 hours later telling me that they are going to charge me for a no show because it was too short of notice when I clearly called before their cut off time of 48 hours. They are the ones that called me back after the 48 hour mark. I cancelled my appointment and advised my referring doctors office to change the referral location. I will not be paying them a DIME!!!! Generally poor care overall. They did an endoscopy and put in a chip to monitor acid reflux. I endured the pain and discomfort of this, and of course the expense, only to be told in a message: "Good news, the chip shows nothing wrong so you are fine!" Despite constant heartburn and continued acid reflux, apparently I am perfect. The doc gave me a new sample to try, but when I called back to get a prescription I was told by an exceptionally rude office worker that my Dr did not work on Fridays and only he could write the prescription. I was told, like others, that no other doctor was available to do the prescription since I am not their patient. And oncall doctors do NOT handle prescriptions, only emergencies. I asked if spitting up acid constitutes an emergency and she said there was nothing to be done until Monday. I'm sure they want to wait until I call for an emergenciy so they can bill triple their ridiculous rate already. Unbelievable and completely rude and disrespectful. Avoid this place like the plague, I know I will not be returning. read more

I've come to believe that physician's offices should be reviewed for many things, but that what they charge for the "experience" is also up for review. If you go to a "specialist", you should get specialized care, especially since they billed me $295 for 20 minutes. A nurse practitioner is not a specialist at that rate, a doctor is. This place seems to be designed for two things, and two things only; to make recommendations you could have gotten from your family doctor (eg. "take Miralax") and to serve as a marketing conveyor belt into the surgery center next door (owned by many of the same doctors who work here) for overpriced and unnecessary procedures. The NP who saw me scheduled me for a colonoscopy within 15 minutes. I thought about how I was treated here, and the costs, and decided to solve my gut problem with a holistic physician in Ashland. A little acupuncture, a little homeopathy, and BAM, no more troubles. Cost $400. If I'd listened to these...shall we call them slaughterhouse workers?...I would have been on the hook for $2,500 or so. Which they required be paid in full. BEFORE the procedure. Which was VERY SPECIFICALLY outlined in their materials as a SCREENING so that there was NO WAY my insurance would pay for it. The whole office is clearly set up to enrich the doctors who work there, and you really feel like a number. If you're not a fan of Western medical offices in the first place, this office will bolster every cliche you've come to dread. The nurse who did my intake was new, overworked, and spelled my name incorrectly on the intake forms (good thing I caught it). The NP did know her stuff, but she was a blur and our whole appt lasted no time at all. No doctors anywhere that I could see; they probably show up to ram things in your ass at vast expense so that they can get back to their golf game. PS they charged me an $75 copay and my insurance showed that the copay should have been $20. So I was overbilled. You guys owe me $55. When can I expect that? Answer, probably never, if the rude and harried people at the front office of this sham clinic are responsible for the refund. ****UPDATE: just got a refund check for this charge. I am thanking my lucky stars for the professionals at Gastroenterology Consultants! After a year of unexplained weight loss and pain, Dr. Haulk was able to promptly give me an accurate diagnosis. He and his compassionate assistant have helped me navigate the system without adequate insurance. When one treatment option failed to work, they immediately suggested another and went above and beyond in order to help me apply for patient assistance. Without any coverage or assistance, my bimonthly Remicade treatment would cost me upward of $50,000 a year, but Dr. Haulk and his assistant have helped to keep me healthy and out of debt. I cannot possibly begin to express my appreciation for their hard work. They are a little difficult to contact (only through phone with limited hours) but it's worth the extra effort. Unlike many other reviewers, I had a first-rate experience with this practice. I was due for a routine colonoscopy and had no problems scheduling one with my preferred physician, Dr. Sharlene D'Souza. On the day of my appointment, everything ran like clockwork and everyone (front desk staff, nurses and Dr. D'Souza) was pleasant, professional and caring. My insurance claim was also processed promptly and accurately, which is not often the case when you're a new patient. Can't say enough good things about my experience! I have been a patient of Dr. Gregory Winters since 2008. I am very fortunate to have him as a health provider. I went many years undiagnosed with my current health condition. He is and amazing scientist when it comes to his specialty. I would recommend him to solve and treat any gastroenterology issues you may have. Dr. Adesman is my doctor, and he can be summed up as a bully. He only wants to prescribe you the strongest (most expensive medication). I suspect he gets commission or a bonus for the product he sells. I was diagnosed with severe Crohn's disease, but after going on the SCD diet (and no medications) for 6 months, virtually all my symptoms are alleviated. I had a few appointments with him throughout the year, and every one consisted of him getting mad at me and chewing me out for not going on medication. He even threatened to "fire" me because I was asking questions and not immediately following his recommendations. Overall, Seem like a nice guy until you want to have your own brain. If you want someone to tell you what to do, he's great. If you want someone to help you make informed, educated decisions for yourself, he's a horrible doctor for you. I didn't have a problem with any of the other staff. read more

I met with Jeani G Buhl, FNP yesterday for a pre-appointment regarding a colonoscopy. Checkin/out and scheduling staff were courteous though one staff member had a rather flat line personality, not rude but not engaging either. She might do better not working with patients! Given the social media world we now live in and the influence it has, if I were the office manager I would without reservation or apology, and on a continuing basis, encourage, educate and monitor staff regarding customer service. Jeani was wonderful, engaging, and informative with great listening skills and good eye contact. I am now scheduled for my colonoscopy later this month and expect that ( like 10 years ago) Mr. Anthony A Haulk, MD, FACP will do an excellent job. Thank you for your services! I am a Hepatitis C Patient and have been waiting for the Medication for months and have called numerous times and have got absolutely no where. I have done everything I can do and my frustrations are way above boiling over. I have spoke to the Pharmacy and found out the type of Medication they are now prescribing and the Original cost which is somewhere in the neighborhood of $18,400.00 which would put my cost around $1070.00. I am low income and therefore called Pan Foundation, which is one of the producers of that drug and they were kind enough to give me a grant of $7,200.00 to cover my cost which means nothing when I cannot get the Doctor to prescribe the drug so I can get to taking it! After making over 35-50 phone calls to different pharmacies and this Medical Office, I am pretty much in tears and beyond frustrated. I am DONE! read more

ZERO stars. Staff overall: Hostile, unprofessional, disagreeable, patronizing, nasty, rude. I had to reschedule a procedure once - and the response was - Well you had a time sent in X month, why did it take you so long to schedule another one? Aggressive, unsupportive. I had to reshededule a procedure twice, and actually heard anger and SIGHS coming from the assistant. I'm sorry - but because of my challenged health, YOU have a JOB. I've gone to centers that are 100 times more busy in a metropolitan area - and the assistant I worked with was overworked and under SO much pressure, but she was on her GAME and was friendly, compassionate, and caring. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR POOR SERVICE. Spoke to my GI Dr about giving myself an enema and he asked, why would you do that? Hot tip: Enemas are something many people do to aid their digestive health. If you do not agree, then EDUCATE ME ON WHY. Don't look at me like a perv and ask why I'm sticking something up my a**. You're in that business as well. Don't even get me started about how many tries it took my medical files to actually "arrive" at this center. If you need to have a colonoscopy... Get ready to be herded into a room WITH OTHER PATIENTS who are about to have the procedure. Sit in an ugly room where the assistant stands at the front of the room while we are in chairs facing her, like in grade school, as she lightly suggests getting toilet paper not from the 99 cent store "because your butt is going to be sore," makes light-hearted jokes about cleaning out your system for the procedure, and lectures you in a really patronizing way. Good news, you won't be charged for that visit. I felt bad for her that she had to do those sessions, but give me a freaking break. But the mere fact that this place would set aside any kind of human decency and MAKE you attend this humiliating group info session shows you where the priorities of this center are. They could have easily scheduled 8 10 minute sessions (oh no a little bit over an **hour** of her time in one day!) with each of the patients to give the patents the RESPECT and DECENCY we all deserve. This info session was MANDATORY. It was one of the most shocking experiences I have EVER had in a medical setting. This CLEARLY is symbolic of how they perceive and treat their patients. Their focus is on THEIR needs, NOT the patient. God help us all that there are not other centers in the Rogue Valley. They can be this way and still get patients because there are not so many centers. That is really sad to me. I have heard - after speaking around to others - that others have had the same experience. PERHAPS there are actually "good doctors" at this place - however, in my experience, the top always sets the tone. If I want my colon to be healthy, I'm going to take it to a healthy environment. read more

I am shaken by an experience I hope no one else has to endure. I had a liver transplant 23 years ago and have been seeing the same Doctor in the practice (who recommended the transplant) tor the last 23 years. On June 281 faxed a letter to him (which I do every year) asking for a renewal prescription for my cyclosporine. Note that I had my transplant under Medicare which means that the cyclosporine is covered under Medicare Part B which means that I cannot use my local pharmacy as they are not authorized to fill Part B prescriptions. I always get a written prescription which 1 send to a national mail order house; Caremark. I never received a response. I then went to Caremark and asked they process the renewal request. After several days I received a notice from Caremark the they were told that the request was denied and that they were cancelling the refill order. I tried to call the practice but was repeatedly told that they could only talk to the pharmacy about refills. I wrote to my Doctor at his home address but never received a response. I then asked my GP to issue the prescription and after several interactions (read red tape) with my HMO I was able to the get order to the pharmacy and have them accept it. It was shipped today. I think I have enough cyclosporine to last me until it arrives. Shaking with anger at the total disregard for my life, I am John E. Gerling read more

I came in on a referral by my primary care doctor for a colonoscopy. I was scheduled quickly, attended the mandatory class to find out what was going to happen, was given a chance to ask questions, was reminded of the necessary fast/medication requirements before my procedure (in time to make sure I was doing it right), and came in in the morning for the procedure. I was processed quickly, given my robe (and a warm blanket!), and then put to sleep. An hour later, I woke up, was told the preliminary results, and sent on my way. Two days later, they called to make sure that my systems was back to normal. It was quick, painless (despite my fears), and, while not enjoyable, a good experience. The staff and attendant doctors are professionals and made it easy to make sure I was healthy. read more

I drove for two hours for my initial visit with Dr, Winters,and when I arrived ten minutes late (got lost with googlemaps directions), they cancelled my appointment! I was told I would need to reschedule my appointment, even though I had driven from out of town. Unbelievable!! Not to mention that my wife called ahead and told them I would be a few minutes late, to which she was treated rudely, and told that it was the Doctor who said to cancel. WOW... Dr. Mougey? He's a fine doctor. The office itself? It seriously sucks. I'm not one to think too critically of an office, but the policies and staff at Gastroenterology Consultants really sucks. I was in the hospital over in Medford for a GI bleed, and since I was an existing patient of Dr. Mougey, I called to get an urgent follow-up appointment. I was met by a very snippy scheduler that told me that since the hospital hadn't specifically said on the discharge paperwork that I needed to follow-up with Dr. Mougey, I would have to wait nearly a month and a half for an appointment. I was absolutely livid! I needed to be seen by a GI, and I was an existing patient for goodness sake! Finally, after some argument she passed me to Dr. Mougey's assistant's voicemail. I missed the phone call back, but was basically told that the soonest they could get me in was a month out, and they gave me an appointment time. By the date of that appointment, I would have already moved to Idaho, so I called back to just cancel the appointment as it was obviously useless to even try. Fast forward to about a month later. I receive a letter in the mail telling me that I "violated office policy by missing an appointment." It demanded that I immediately send them a $35 payment for the missed appointment, or I would be discharged from the practice. I wrote back telling them that I DID cancel the appointment, I wouldn't be paying their fee, and to just cancel my patient file. Sadly for people in Southern Oregon, Gastroenterology Consultants is really the only game in town. In all honesty, if you have the ability, just go to Roseburg or Eugene to a decent GI office and avoid this place like the plague. read more
